《Shy One (Completed)》Chapter 3

"This is my favorite place to eat." Brennon opened the door for me, a big smile on his face like he was genuinely happy that I agreed to this.
He brought me to a small diner on the edge of the the werewolf town. I've never been here before, mostly because I don't have that kind of money, but this is a popular hangout for a lot of wolves.
Brennon went on to sit on at the bar. Both our backpacks were thrown into his truck but what I was more concerned about was a few of my pack mates who also skipped class and was sitting in the back of the diner.
I prayed that they wouldn't see me but,
"Is that the omega bitch?" One of them shouted, followed by the other two snickering.
I froze, looking up to see Brennon glaring at the other three, his fists clenched until his knuckles were almost pure white. I couldn't move my feet, not even when they got out of their seats to come closer to me. The diner staff were nowhere to be seen, leaving us all by ourselves.
"Skipping school?" One of them reached out and roughly grabbed my arm, pulling me closer to the group. Each one of them loomed over me with malicious grins. I tried to struggle, pulling my arm away from him but it wouldn't budge. Instead he gripped harder. I let out a silent scream.
Before I knew it he was ripped away from me, the force sending my forward and onto the floor. As I sat up all I could hear was grunts and loud cracking. I rubbing my head as I recovered from the sudden movement and as soon as I could focus again there was a helping hand in front of me.

My pack mates were all on the floor groaning and Brennon's eyes were full of fury, but as soon as I took his warm hand it was like all his anger vanished and he was happy again.
"You okay?" As soon as I was able to stand up the staff came back, just one middle-aged woman and a young man who took one look at my pack members and smiled at Brennon.
"Brennon, who is this lovely lady?" The middle-aged woman got to the other side of the counter while the young man, who was even taller than Brennon with white hair and bright yellow eyes, collected my pack mates and through them over his shoulders, leaving the third one still on the floor. I watched the whole ordeal in shock. "Don't worry about them, they won't bother you from now on."
I shook my head, letting Brennon lead me to the counter.
"She doesn't speak much." Brennon smiled, but it quickly turned to a frown when he caught me staring at the counter with so much fear in my eyes.
I am screwed.
I am so, so, so screwed.
Those were the alpha's soon's closest friends.
As soon as word gets out that I was hanging out with the beta of River Side and he kicked their butts I will get the beating of my life.
"Mable?" Brennon looked genuinely concerned. "Mable what's wrong?" He thought for a good second, but it felt like ages. "They were your pack mates, weren't they." He didn't ask it so much as he stated it.
I nodded, feeling my hands still shaking at the thought of going home now. My stomach was doing backflips and frontflips and my head started pounding like I was just hit by a bus. Luckily my lungs worked, kinda. Before I knew it I was hyperventilating, Brennon was rubbing soothing circles on my back while the woman ran into the kitchen.

I calmed down just enough to focus on the warm chicken-noodle soup that was placed nicely in front on me.
"On the house sweetie." The woman smiled, her black hair was duller as well, but her orangy-eyes shone bright with life. She brushed her red-painted hands on her white apron that covered her lovely blue dress that cut just under her knees. "I'm letting you skip school this time mister." She pointed an accusatory finger at Brennon then gave me a wink, "Feel better honey."
I awkwardly stare at the bowl like it was a foreign object, not sure what to do with myself.
"Mable? Everything okay?" Brennon was looking at my hand that was clutching the spoon till my knuckles were white. The candy green orbs slowly trailed up to my face where I was staring back at him. I do not know what I look like to him, but judging by the difference in his expression I can say for certain that I look pitiful.
I try nodding, shakily taking the spoon and dipping it into the soup, watching it fill up with the warm liquid before bringing it to my mouth.
It was delicious.
I started picking up my pace, not even realizing how hungry I was. That's what I get for skipping both breakfast and lunch.
I felt soft rubs on my back and I flinched when Brennon's hand came and stroked my cheek. I looked awkwardly at his hand to see it wet. Dropping my spoon, I took both my hands to wipe my cheeks to find fat tears streaming down them.
"You're okay now, Mable." He smiled, a nice bright smile that held no sympathy nor pity, just happiness.
"Thank you."
