《Catch You》25| Sheer Panic

Shot that arrow I'm hit, need you right near me

Noah.
Noah.
My first love.
I stumbled back as if an invisible force had pushed me. I couldn't breathe. I knew there was a huge possibility that this guy wasn't the same Noah because I hadn't known his surname, but the way he was smirking at me told me he knew exactly what effect his name would have on me. My ears ringed with astonishment, and panic.
Sheer panic.
Hundreds of questions loomed in my mind, the sudden presence of my girlfriend's ex boyfriend suffocating me so much that I knew I had to get out of there or I would blow everything up. With a huge amount of difficulty I swallowed hard, letting my eyes lock on his. As if he sensed my pain, his smirk widened.
"I-I've gotta go." I got out of my mouth, and then I ran.
I hurriedly closed the door behind me, struggling to breathe. My mouth was open, my lungs deprived of oxygen. I took support of the wash basin, looking at myself in the mirror. My face was ghastly pale, my eyes having a haunted look as if I'd just seen a ghost. Seeing a ghost would have been a better situation. I wanted to splash my face with water but my hands wouldn't move. My body was numb.
I slid down the floor, moving back till my end hit the wall. My chest heaved up and down with anxiety. I buried my face in my hands, bringing up my knees and resting my head on them. My legs were shaking.
The door to the bathroom opened and I heard a girl's laugh. A very familiar laugh.
"Theo? Fuck, what happened?" I felt hands on my body. My heart raced when her skin came in contact with mine.
"Bri, I'm gonna call you back." She hastily put her phone on the floor and slid down in front of me. "Theo, baby, look at me."
I slowly lowered my knees, letting my gaze fall on her beautiful face. She looked alarmed, her hand grabbing mine and lacing our fingers together. With the other one, she touched my face. I flinched slightly at the feel.
"What's wrong?" She asked softly.
"How did you know where I was?" My voice broke off and I coughed.
"This is the female restroom, Theo. What is going on? What happened?" Concern swirled in her eyes.
"He's here." I croaked out. "Noah, he's here."
Her eyes reflected off with understanding. She moved closer to me, pulling my head in her chest. When I didn't move, she grabbed my arms and placed them around her waist. "Baby-"
"You knew, didn't you? You met him, you saw him yesterday and that is why you were behaving so weird."
"Theo-"
"He's gonna steal you away from me." I whispered.
"No." She grabbed my face in her hands, and forced me to look at her. "He won't."
"You should have seen his face when he told me his name. He knew you were my girlfriend, he knew that I would panic when I will know who he was. He knew, Mia, and he was feeling proud."

"Noah was my past." She said. "He was a part of my life before I met you. He's not anymore."
"You have so many memories together. You-"
"I spent most of my teenage life with him, Theo. Of course I have memories with him. But I want to make more with you." She whispered.
"He is your first love." I mumbled, looking down.
"He is. Listen to me, look at me, Theo." When I didn't, she sighed and continued anyway. "Him being here does not change the way I feel about you. When I saw him yesterday, I couldn't breathe." I snapped my head up, but she wasn't looking at me. "Because I was so shocked to see him. But when I see you, every day, every second, you leave me breathless because of the way you make me feel."
"There is nothing in my heart for him. Sure, I do have many happy memories with him because he was there for me when I desperately needed someone. But, he ran away, Theo. He left me when I needed him. And you've never run away." She touched my cheek gently. "He never made me feel like you do. And that's saying a lot because I was with him for years and it's been less than two weeks since we've started dating."
"You have nothing to worry about." She traced my cheekbone, her eyes soft as she looked into mine. "I will never, ever hurt you again, Theo. I've promised you that. If he was here to taunt you, don't be. Because you do not have a single thing to worry about. I haven't talked to him since ages, and whatever I had with him ended the day he left."
I pulled her in my arms, lifting her up and letting her straddle my waist. I sunk my head in her neck, pressing her tightly against me. I heard the sound of the door being opened again, someone's footsteps and a soft gasp, but I didn't give a flying fuck about anyone seeing us. I had her in my arms and it was all okay.
She played with my hair, making me shiver in delight. I pressed my lips against the cold skin of her neck, and she let me. I tightened my hold on her waist and she let me. Maybe she understood that I needed it, maybe she didn't, but she didn't say another word and held me. She cradled me in her arms, her hold protective like mine always is. She was my safe house, my source of being calm, she was an angel, my angel.
"We're gonna go to class and you're going to study. Do you have practice today?" She murmured. When I nodded she continued. "I'll wait for you, okay? Then we'll both drive to your place, or mine whichever is fine with you, and we'll watch a movie and relax."
"Relax?" I asked, lifting my head up to look in her eyes.
She nodded.
"Can this plan include making out on the couch too?"
She grinned. "You got it, babe."
I kissed Theo on the cheek and pushed him inside the class when he said he didn't want to go. What kind of a girlfriend would I be if I let my boyfriend fail? He motioned to me with his eyes that I was dead. I smirked and blew him a kiss as the teacher told him to sit down. He smiled, then turned around and disappeared from my view.

I took a deep breath, and got to business.
Theo had told me Noah had applied for the football trials, which was absolute bullshit because Noah couldn't play shit. And he hated sports, so I needed to find out why he was doing what he was doing. If he was here to sabotage my relationship, he needed to know he won't ever be successful.
I found him on the field, sitting on the bleachers. He was typing something on his phone, and he looked up when he saw me coming. His eyes brightened, mouth turning up into a smile. "Amelia! Fancy seeing you here."
"Cut the bullshit, Noah. What are you doing?"
"What do you mean?" He asked innocently.
"Why the fuck did you apply for the trials?"
"I wanted to try them out." He shrugged. "Everyone is so fussy about guys who play football. I just wanted to see what it was."
"That is rubbish, and you know that I know it. So why don't you tell me what's going on?" I folded my arms on my chest.
He chuckled. "Alright, alright. I'd heard rumors about you dating the football captain. I wanted to see who he was."
I raised an eyebrow. "So you applied for the trials? Seriously? You could've seen him without that crap you pulled."
"Well, I wanted to see him in his arena. Sad to know the mighty football captain complained to his girlfriend about me."
My blood boiled.
"I'd really not expected him to go cry to you about me." He threw his head back and laughed. "Did he ask you to come and talk to me? Was he intimidated by me?"
"I have no idea what shit is going on with you, Noah. Whatever it is, it has got to stop. If I hear you say one word about him and-"
"If only you'd stood up for me the way you're standing up for him." He whispered and shook his head. "Things would be so different right now, Amelia."
My anger subsided a bit. "You have no right to say that now. You have no right to come barge into my life after four years and expect everything to be the same."
"I thought about you every single day since then. How you were, what you were doing. I never stopped thinking about you."
"I'm in a relationship, Noah." My lower lip quivered. His words brought back so many things. "I have a boyfriend and I am happy with him."
"Yeah?" He asked. "Why are you standing here, then? Why are you talking to me when you could very well be in class or probably with him?"
My mouth shut close.
He smiled. "We had something special and you know it. We had something so wonderful, everyone saw it."
"Yes, we did have something special. But it's over now. I'm not here to discuss with you what we had, I'm here to tell you to cut your crap and do not speak to my boyfriend ever again." I said forcefully.
"What did he tell you I did? Huh? Why are you fighting so much for him when I actually didn't do anything except say my name?"
"You were taunting him."
He smirked. "Good to know he is, in fact, intimidated by me."
"He is not fucking intimidated by you." I growled. "And that actually is none of your business. You know what, fuck you Noah. Fuck you for leaving me like that after everything we had been through, fuck you for never once asking me in these four years how I was, and fuck you for coming here after so long and telling me you thought about me every single day. That's fucked up."
"I regretted it everyday." He said quietly and looked down. "I regretted leaving you every fucking second. But what should I have done? Your father-"
"I had told you a million times he would never harm you!" I screamed. "He knew how much you meant to me and he would have never hurt you because that would have hurt me."
"He filed-"
"I told you that after he filed the order as well! I told you to give it some time, that I would convince him to take it back. But you still left me!" People were looking at us. But I didn't care. I'd bottled this up for so long, I had to get it out. I had to get this out of my system or it would eat me alive. I had to do this to completely move on from my past.
"I'm sorry-"
"Sorry does not change the fact that I cried over you for days. Sorry does not change the fact that you made me question what we had and made me doubt myself. Sorry does not change the fact that I loved you, Noah, and you still left me. You knew how people always walked away from me and how much I was scared of it, you knew yet you still did the same." My chest heaved up and down at an alarming rate. I willed my eyes to not let the tears down. I couldn't cry in front of him.
"Please, Amelia, listen to me-"
"I do not want anything to do with you, Noah." I said coldly. "I waited for you for months, years, and you didn't come back. And now when I'm finally happy with my life, when I have finally moved on from my fucked up past and found a perfect guy who has proved to me so many times he would never betray me, you show up." I shook my head.
"No-"
"Please leave me alone, and leave my relationship alone. What we had is over, was over a long time ago, and I have no intention of starting it again. Because right now, I have everything I could ever wish for, and I am happy."
With that, I turned around and left him on the bleachers.
