《17》10. Silver Base Banquet (Pt 2)

"No way! Is that Drew?!" I was ripped away from Lysander by someone who's quite strong. And that someone is a little lady named Colleen Guevara, sister of one of Eva's colleague. We met in Bio class on my first semester of college and we've been friends ever since. "Girl! You didn't tell me you were coming! Oh, and with your boyfriend!" She smiled at Lysander. "I'm Colleen, nice to meet you. If you hurt Drew in any way, you're gonna have to deal with me."

Lysander barked a laugh but nodded. The three of us danced together as Colleen and I had a quick catch up, since I haven't seen her since last semester. "I'm taking Anatomy and it's basically a shot in the brain every Mondays and Wednesday mornings." She gushed. "Although, my professor is super cute. I think he's like 28 or something and he likes -- "

From my peripheral vision, I could see Lysander's pupils dilating. He stopped moving completely. He closed his eyes, then opened them again before his body started to move side to side as if he's dizzy.

"Lysander, are you okay?" I caught his arm, trying to steady him.

He had his eyes closed, but he still managed to face me. "Yeah. Just feeling light headed."

Colleen continued to talk but all my attention was on Lysander. I don't know what's happening but I'm beginning to worry. I think it's time for us to leave. I stood on my tiptoes to look for Eva. She's currently talking to a business man and it looked like she's on the verge of smacking the man, so it's probably best to not bother her.

"Ly--" Just as I planned to ask him to leave, Lysander pushed through people and ran off somewhere.

Shit.

"He probably just need to pee or something." Colleen shrugs.

"Right." I tried staying still for a minute and I couldn't. I just have a really bad feeling about this. "I need to go to the bathroom also. I'll be back." Not even waiting for her response, I pushed through people and ran the same way Lysander did. The only problem is that I don't know exactly which way he went, or where he really went. This mansion is huge and if he went to the bathroom, I don't know where it is.

I even tried standing on a chair to see over people. Lysander is no doubt the tallest, so he should stand out but I don't see a muscular tall man anywhere.

This is not good.

I have lost the werewolf that I've stolen.

***

"There you are. I've been looking for you."

At this point, I'm back at the entrance of the mansion. I've looked everywhere and I still can't find him. Right now, I'm resting against a wall, watching an old woman scold two teenagers, who look like they totally just made out. They also look scared to death. I would be too, if that woman is my mother, to be honest.

"Mom!" The girl pointed a finger towards the forest. "There's a wolf out there!"

I lost my balance and my head hit the wall that I was leaning on. The man by the door shot me a worried look, but all my attention is on the teenagers.

"What?"

"We were there. We got bored of the party so we wandered around. Then we saw a wolf. A really big one, in there. It saw us so we ran here." The boy said, a little calmer than the girl, but still looked frightened. "We thought it was a bear or a lion because it was so big but I swear, it's a wolf."

The man by the door overheard the teens. "Wolf? Children, there's no wolves here. Especially at this time of the year." He laughed. "Kids."

The woman nodded in agreement to the man. "He's right. Wolf? In this town? Never. Now come on, let's go home."

"But mother! We saw it! A wolf!" The girl cried a little too loudly, her voice echoing all over the mansion.

Everyone heard that.

There are scientists from Silverstein in here. There are cops, agents, government workers. They will all come for him. It's true, there are no wolves here in West Grove. If there's one, it has to be that missing wolf from Silverstein. I need to find him. Just now, I already see a couple of scientists and cops gathering on a small circle, looking suspicious and whispering among themselves. I know they're coming for him. I need to find Lysander before they get him.

And so, without wasting anymore time, I went to the forest. As calmly as I could, I left the mansion and pretended to go to a car. The man by the door watched me and waved goodbye, before turning back to the mansion. Then, I sprinted into the forest, being very careful not to disturb any other creatures of the night. It's a little dark, but I could see very well where I'm going, all thanks to the bright light of the full moon.

"Full moon." I stopped on my tracks to look at the moon. It is full moon. I don't know much about wolves and how the moon affects them, but now I know they really do transform during full moons.

This forest is big, but not enough to make it impossible for Lysander to be caught. I need to see him before they do. "Lysander. Where are you?" I cried worriedly, feeling my heart wanting to break out from my chest.

After walking a few more steps, I heard something that gave me goosebumps. A howl. His howl. Lysander's howl. By the sound of it, I'm nowhere near him.

I increased my phase, up to my point where I'm running. "Lysander! Lysander!" I screamed, though not loud enough for the scientists and cops to hear me. Lysander said his senses are enhanced. That means he should be able to hear me, if I'm close to him. "Lysander! I'm here! Where are you?"

I'm far deep enough in the forest that I'm hearing nothing but animals. Crickets and owls. However, I was able to catch a moment of pure silence and heard a deep, low growl. Then, I saw a badger emerge from a bush, running away for its dear life. I walked a few more steps and a couple of rabbits came hopping away, the same direction that the badger flee from.

I slowly walked to the direction that the animals came from. As soon as I pushed down through bushes, I barely had time to react as I was tackled towards the hard forest ground. I quickly stood up and ran backwards, stopping at a tree. In case he launches, I could climb it.

The wolf backed away and stopped growling, though he's still looking at me with those eyes, like he wants to eat me. "Lysander." I said slowly, hoping he understands. "It's me. It's Drew. Andromeda." The wolf softened his gaze and dared to step closer, allowing me to touch his face. The girl was right. By his size, he can easily be mistaken as another bigger creature. He is bigger than a normal wolf.

"It's okay. You're okay." I hushed, running a hand through his black fur. His eyes are glowing red, and he looks genuinely frightening. I'm a bit terrified, to be honest. If I didn't know this is Lysander, I would be shitting my brains out. Actually, now that I think about it, I really hope this is Lysander and not an actual wolf. "You are Lysander, right?" I asked stupidly.

The wolf nodded, his ears twitching. He turned his head from where I came from, and I see flashlights shining from there.

"Lysander. We need to leave. We need to hide somewhere." It has to be the scientists and cops. It's too late to go back to the cars. We will have to go somewhere in the forest to hide. "They can't see you. Please, come on." He growled and got into a position, ready to attack. "Lysander." It's not a good idea. We don't know what they have. Guns alone is enough to stop us from escaping. "Lysander! Let's go!"

The wolf finally followed me and we both ran off deeper in the forest. We were at a point where it's pitch black dark and I didn't want to risk exposing us using my phone's flashlight. However, Lysander knew where to go. He led us somewhere that felt like a cave. It's a hole that's big enough for the two of us to hide, and it is hidden by other trees and bushes, though with light we can easily be seen.

In the little cave, Lysander and I are squished together, with him taking most of the space, since he is a massive wolf. My back is against the end of the cave and my legs are stretched out all the way to the opening. Lysander laid down on my lap while we hid. Meanwhile, I rested my face on his back and ran my fingers through his fur.

We were there for a while. There was no noise other than the crickets, owls and gush of wind. No light other than the moon, though most of it is being blocked by the trees above us, causing it to be very dark. After about fifteen more minutes, three men came in our area. The two scientists and one cop. Lysander and I are completely petrified, though I know that if those men pulled anything, Lysander will jump out and fight them and I really don't want him hurt.

"Where did that dog go?" One of the scientists hissed, wiping his forehead. "I'm tired already. I'm not going through that bridge."

"We need to find the mutt." Says the cop, walking around the area with his gun and flashlight.

I'm absolutely terrified right now.

He's circling the whole ground and if he shines a light towards the bushes in front of us, we are caught. They will take Lysander.

My arm around Lysander's body tightened as the cop came closer to us. I held my breath and closed my eyes, waiting for the worst. I waited and waited, then I heard a familiar voice.

"Are you all still looking for the wolf?" It's Doctor Maxine. "People saw it go towards the river."

"The river?!" One of the other scientists groaned. "That's in the other side! How did it get all the way there! We saw it run this way!"

"Wolves are pretty fast." Doctor Maxine points out. "But it's too late now. It's probably far off and impossible to see at this time. Besides, you're all needed back there. You two, we all need to take samples of the Renovarium for Silverstein. All scientists must be there to get samples. And as for you sir, I think your partner wants you there."

"She's right. Let's go."

We waited for a couple of minutes until their footsteps fade away. Lysander and I got out of the cave and went to an area where there's more light so that we could see properly. We walked closer to the mansion but still in the middle of the forest, then we stopped by a huge tree and three giant boulders. I sat down on one boulder to calm myself down. I breathed in and out slowly while using my hands as a fan to bring some air to my face. I am sweating so much.

"That was close." I sighed in relief. "How did you --"

I wasn't able to finish my sentence as I had just witnessed Lysander shift from wolf to human. A very naked human at that. His pupils are still red and everything else is pitch black. His nails and skin had gone back to normal, though his ears are still a little pointy, like in his wolf form.

My face cooled down for a second, but now it's completely heated up again as I accidentally scanned him over. "Here." I quickly removed my blazer and walked over to him. All of his clothes must have ripped when he had turned into a wolf and now he has nothing to cover up. I closed my eyes as I handed him my blazer. And that seemed like a really bad idea because when Lysander grabbed my waist and held me against him, I don't know what the hell just happened or why he did that. I barely had time to open my eyes and part my lips to ask questions but I wasn't given a chance to, because Lysander began to kiss my neck and made his way up to my jaw and to the corner of my lips, then back down to my neck.

Every part of my body tingled and heated up.

"What--"

"Shh." He held onto me tighter as he continued to kiss my neck. I had to bite my lips from making any noise. I put hands on his chest and was just about to push him away, until I heard footsteps coming towards us and a bright white light hit my hair and part of Lysander's face. I moved a little so his face is hidden.

I slightly turned my head to see who caught us. It's the cop from earlier. Deputy sheriff. "Shit! Sorry!" He quickly shined his light on another area. "Kids these days will fuck anywhere." My mouth dropped and I let out a noise that cannot be explained, due to how embarrassed I was. At our position and Lysander's current lack of clothing, our situation is a bit misleading.

"I'm sorry, sir." Lysander said with a rough, deep voice, running a hand up and down my back.

"Y'all need to get out of there. Get a room." The young deputy is also pink. He cleared his throat. "There's a wolf on the lose. I'm sure this is not how you both want to die."

"Absolutely." I laughed nervously. "Not. Absolutely not."

"Right. Now go. I'm coming back in twenty minutes. If you're still here, I'm gonna have to talk to your parents."

As soon as he was out of sight, I jumped away from Lysander and put my hands on my face. It's really hot. My face, and basically everything else. "Okay! Fuck. Wow." Everything right now is spinning. What the hell just happened? I don't even know.

I ran away with an amused human wolf behind me.

***

I drove Eva's car on the way back to our apartment. I texted her that we had an emergency and I'll explain everything when she gets back. She said she'll be okay and will catch a ride home from one of her colleagues.

As soon as we made it inside the apartment, I jumped on the couch and let it swallow me down. "Andromeda." I hear Lysander take a seat on the chair next to me. "I'm sorry about what happened. I didn't know it will be full moon tonight. I'm sorry I ruined tonight." I could hear how upset he is with his tone, I almost want to hug him. If I wasn't embarrassed about what happened earlier, I would, but right now my brain is weird and I probably shouldn't.

I sat up and smiled at him. "It's okay. I was getting bored of that party anyways." I then removed my shoes and threw it aside. It sure gave me blisters. "Also, you're pretty cute as a wolf." He just scoffed and shook his head, though I could see he's trying to hide his smile.

Checking the time, I saw that it's still early and I'm not tired yet. And I sure as hell am not going to be sleeping tonight. I highly doubt it.

"Lysander, are you tired?"

"What?"

"Are you tired?"

He shook his head, looking at me with confusion. "Hungry, but no."

"Perfect!" I jumped from the couch and ran to the kitchen. I grabbed a bag of popcorn and threw it in the microwave. I went back in the living room, turned on the TV and went to Netflix. "Let's watch TV!"

Lysander tilted his head with confusion. "You want to watch TV? No questions? After all that --"

"Yep."

What do you mean I'm using TV as a distraction? What? That's ridiculous.

I made a quick run to my room to change into my pajamas. When I returned, Lysander did the same -- well, sort of. He put on grey sweats and remained shirtless, which just causes weird reactions to my heart and brain. Still, I shook all thoughts from my mind and joined him on the floor. We had blankets and pillows everywhere, and one big bowl of popcorn. Well, I had popcorn while Lysander gets a sandwich. Without any more words spoken, we watched Tarzan.

I was only able to make it halfway through the movie until I felt myself drifting off to sleep, though I didn't have the energy to go back to my room. One, I'm already so comfortable and two, I'm wrapped around the arms of a werewolf that likes to make my heart go crazy.
