《The Alpha's Warrior》Chapter Thirty-One

I drift in and out of sleep, no longer bothering to keep track of the time. I think it's only been a few days, but it could have been weeks for all I know.

I'm getting anxious, but of course that's exactly what Sage wants. I wish he'd just get it over with if he plans to kill me, but he wants me to sweat it out. It's a game of cat and mouse. It's a game I've played many times before, though rarely have I played the role of mouse.

"You need to relax. All that fidgeting is driving me insane," Lucas glares at me.

"How are you not insane already from all this waiting? You've been down here longer than I have. If I were you, I'd be certifiably bat shit by now," I groan in response.

"You were certifiably batshit before you ever stepped foot in this room, Rey."

We both burst into laughter. I can't deny his words, honestly. I'd have to be batshit to willingly put myself in the situation I'm in.

I shake my chains a little more for good measure, earning myself another glare. I can see the glimmer in his eyes and I know he's more amused than annoyed. In seconds, we're in a rage of giggles once again.

Maybe we really are losing it.

Rey?

I'm holding back tears, laughing so hard I'm struggling to breath, I just barely hear the voice in my head. At first I think it's my wolf, but it doesn't quite sound right.

Lexie? I question back, completely unsure.

Finally! I thought I'd never hear your annoying ass voice every again. Do you know where you are? There's too many cells down here and I don't want to waste any time.

The voice is getting close and clearer in my head. I want to weep tears of joy. A rescue mission sounds too good to be true- and way too dangerous, but I'll chastise them when we're all safe again.

"Rey?" Lucas questions aloud, interrupting my focus.

"Shhhh, hold on."

All the way down the last corridor. Last door on the right. There were two Warriors guarding it the last time I could see. Be careful.

Moments later we hear a scuffle outside the door. My body tenses as I prepare for a fight. I let out a huge sigh of relief when Lexie and Gabe walk through the door, two unconscious Warrior bodies on the floor behind them.

"Fuck, you were hard to get a hold of. The whole pack has been trying to reach you since we found out you were missing, we thought you were de- what the fuck?"

Lexie is talking a mile a minute as she and Gabe unshackle me, but her excitement turns to anger when she finally recognizes who's sitting across from me.

"You piece of shit," she lunged for him as my last cuff comes undone.

I stand up quickly to stop her, but my legs are wobbly and atrophied from lack of use and I plop right back down. I opt for grabbing her arm and pulling her back towards me instead.

"Lexie no!" I yell at her.

Gabe stands back, looking unsure of what to do.

"Do you have any idea of what this man has done? To Killian, to our entire pack?" She screams back.

She turns around to face me, her eyes wild and murderous, but I try to keep calm.

"Lexie, it's a lot to explain, but he's not the bad guy. He wanted to help Killian. Sage is behind everything, on his own, please just trust me. We don't have time right now," I plead.

She's still seething, but she doesn't try to lunge for him again. She looks back and forth between Lucas and I with distrust.

"Fuck it, she's right. We can get explanations later, but right now we need to go," Gabe chimes in.

They make their way towards the door while I continue to stand in place. Blood starts circulating properly to my legs again and I start to feel a little stronger.

"I'm not leaving without him."

"Come on, Rey," Lexie looks at me exasperated. "We can come back and get him when Sage is dead. We'll have plenty of time to question him then, but there's a war going on up there and he's just one more wild card we can't afford to worry about."

"No," I shake my head. "He's good and he's on our side. There's no better way for him to prove it than to have him fight with us."

Lexie rolls her eyes but eventually concedes. They help me unchain him quickly. I hold my hand out to help him up.

"Thank you," he says quietly.

He looks up at me, his eyes full of emotion.

"Time to fight," I nod back.
