《The Alpha's Warrior》Chapter Thirty Two

"Did he give Jacob back like he promised," I ask as we start running down the hall.

I try to picture the way we originally came down to get us out of here.

"Nope. I know he sent Killian another note. Something about you and Jacob again, which of course sent him on a rampage. He immediately rounded up the allied packs and now we're here," Gabe said.

"Lying sack of shit," I curse. "What if he's not even here? How are we supposed to find him if Killian rips off the head of the only person who might know where he is?"

We make our way up the stairs as quickly and quietly as possible. It isn't too hard to find our way out from this point, but the long winding stairs start to take their toll on Lucas's weakened state. We pause on one of the landings to give him a chance to catch his breath.

"He's here," Lucas reveals, still panting lightly.

Three heads snap up to face him.

"What did you say?"

Lexie's jaw is clenched, her hands balled into fists. A mirror of how I must look right now. Gabe regards Lucas levelly, but I can tell he's seething inside.

"The young boy from your pack. I saw him briefly when a few Warriors were bringing him in to one of the operation rooms. I was... detained shortly after that," he tells us grimly.

"Was he alive?" Gabe asks.

"Yes. Sage wouldn't kill his only bargaining chip with Rey. He may have run a few tests on him, but I'm sure he was just using him as bait to force you to pick sides."

I'm about to respond when I pick up on faint footsteps a few flights down. Time's up. I motion for everyone to lean in closer.

"Sounds like our Warrior friends woke up. We need a plan now, but I need us all to agree on our next move. Do we go find Jacob or go help Killian and the rest of the pack?"

They all pause for a moment, weighing out our options. I can see how torn everyone is, and honestly, I am, too. We've already failed Jacob time and time again. Who knows what he's been through while waiting for us to rescue him? On the other hand, Killian, even with his allied packs, is outnumbered.

Sage has every Warrior on this side of the world here with him, and I have no doubt he's forcing Lucas's wolves to fight with him. Killian needs our help.

The footsteps are getting louder.

"I know it's a tough decision, but we need to act now. We can't fight these Warriors without bringing every other guard in this bunker down on us. What's it going to be?"

Lexie looks up at me, determination in her eyes.

"Jacob is safe where he is. Sage is too distracted with Killian to do anything to him. Besides, he'll just be a distraction on the field. We'll get him when this is over."

I nod and smile at her sadly. She's right. We start running again, trying to stick to the shadows. I keep a grip on Lucas's arm to pull him along. We make it to the top of the bunker with no confrontation. Guard duty must be light after Killian's attack.

"This way," I usher them out the door I was first led through.

Sunlight beams down on us and I have to squint my eyes until they finally adjust. It's been far too long since I felt its warmth. When I catch my bearings, I'm horrified.

The open field in front of us is drenched in blood and carnage. Thousands of screams and battle cries can be heard from both sides. If there even are sides anymore. Everyone is fighting haphazardly, picking off whoever crosses their paths. By the looks of it, our side isn't too terribly outnumbered, but the Warrior strength has me concerned for our allies. It looks as though our allies are staying mind linked with each other, which is helping them maneuver and strategize better than the enemies.

Still, we're too evenly matched for comfort.

"Fucking hell," Gabe gasps.

"How are we supposed to find Killian? Patrick? Fucking anyone in our pack? This is chaos," Lexie cries.

Killian?

I try to mind link him, unsure after everything. I briefly wonder how angry he still is with me after I gave myself up.

Rey? The familiar voice calls back.

Feelings of relief and love flood our bond.

I'm so happy you're okay. Where are you?

Pack house. Patrick and I are hunting Sage, but he keeps evading us. We think he's hold up in here somewhere.

"Lucas, where's the pack house?" I ask out loud.

"I'll show you."

Lexie and Gabe agree to stay behind and fight while Lucas and I run in the opposite direction. I desperately want to shift into my wolf. She's been on high alert since we broke out, but I know Lucas hasn't shifted in years and I can't leave him behind.

"I'm slowing you down. Go without me," he heaves.

He stops and bends over, putting his hands on his knees to catch his breath.

"I..."

I want to tell him no, that I'm not going to leave him behind. But he's right. We both know how important this is and timing is crucial.

"I'll catch up, I promise. Just go."

With one last look, I tear off, pulling my clothes off as I shift. I hope Lucas picks them up and brings them with him, or at the very least, folds them up and places them somewhere safe.

I guess it won't matter if I don't make it out of this though.
