《Kings of Hawkings [bxb]》Chapter 8

The alarm blared through the room as Jonas and Hugh groaned. Hugh was still curled up next to Jonas. Hugh rubbed his eyes and looked up to see Jonas stirring. "Morning." He said with a yawn.
Jonas moved his fingers to the silver hair and brushed back a couple of locks. "Morning."
"Are we showering together?" Hugh said with a wink.
Jonas chuckled. "Go first. I'll grab some breakfast."
Hugh ran to the bathroom and started the shower. "Are you cooking? Be still my heart!"
"Cooking is stretching it. I'm cutting up fruit. Want some?"
Hugh groaned. "That sounds disgustingly healthy."
Jonas rolled his eyes. "You think this body comes with fast food and grease?"
Hugh stepped out the bathroom with a towel around his waist. "No, but that body can come with me." He winked again before disappearing in the bathroom.
Jonas laughed and ran his hands through his hair and pulled on sweatpants that hung low on his hips. He didn't bother with a shirt now that everyone had seen him already. He paused, looking at the bathroom door but shook his head and walked out in the common area.
He was surprised to see a large group of guys in the common area, sitting on the tables and couches while Travis was in the kitchen making food for everyone.
"Morning Jo! What do you want for breakfast?" Travis called out, drawing everyone's attention to him.
"Damn. How do you work out?" One of the guys grumbled.
"The picture didn't do it justice."
Jonas ran his hand through his hair again. "I normally have some fruit and coffee."
Travis looked him up and down. "I hope you're not doing a diet or anything."
Jonas shook his head. "I lived with Chuck for a while and just got used to the way he eats."
Travis sighed. "Fine. But you will have my cooking soon. Coffee's on the counter."
Jonas poured a cup and pulled out some fruit and started to slice it. "Is this normal for the mornings?"
Travis nodded. "I hope you don't mind. We take care of each other here. Most of them don't know a thing about cooking or decent food. They would live off of fast food off they could. So they pitch in for groceries and I do the rest."

"I know my way around a kitchen. Need help?"
Travis looked a little embarrassed. "You mind scrambling some eggs for me? I'm a little behind."
Jonas nodded. "Do you guys do the yolks?"
Travis gasped. "You poor boy! You were living off of fruit and egg whites?"
Jonas ruffled his hair. "Whole eggs it is." With that, he grabbed a bowl and started to crack the eggs in it. He added some salt and pepper before he started to whisk it together. He moved carefully around the smaller boy who was working much harder than him. He would pour the eggs into the pan and scramble a couple of batches, while sneaking in a few drinks of his coffee.
He was putting a new batch out when he saw Hugh standing on the other side of the counter with a smile. Jonas cursed. "Sorry, Hugh. I meant to grab you something."
"Looks like you got roped into helping. Did you eat yet?" Hugh laughed.
Jonas shook his head. "I'm almost done with the eggs though."
Hugh grabbed the plate of fruit and moved next to Jonas. He picked a piece with a fork and held up to Jonas's mouth. "Multitasking." Hugh suggested.
Jonas snorted but took the bite from the fork. Hugh used the same fork and fed himself a piece and then alternated between him and Jonas. They finished eating when he finished his last batch.
Travis gave him a wide smile. "Thank you! You have no idea how much you helped!"
Jonas nodded. "I'm going to shower real quick."
He left the common room and entered the bathroom. It still smelled like the body wash that Hugh used. Jonas normally used Sandalwood, so the tea tree and mint smell was unique and intoxicating. He shook his head from the thoughts and took a quick shower.
He pulled on some tight briefs and put a little of styling gel in his hair to make it look a little disheveled but neat. He walked out of the bathroom in his underwear and saw Hugh back in the room. Hugh grinned and looked him up and down.
"I'm still not used to the look. You were someone else just yesterday. Here." He tossed him something silver. Jonas saw that it was another earring. "I split all of my earrings. I only have one ear pierced and dont need both pairs. So I figured you can use the ones that I have."

Jonas nodded and hooked the earring in. "Thanks. I got my ears pierced as a 'fuck you' to my father, but that didn't work out well so I never really bought any jewelry. Still, I have always liked the look."
He pushed aside the clothes that were baggy knowing there was no point to keep up the charade. He decided to just discard the larger shirts, there was no need for them anymore. He should just be comfortable.
He grabbed an old shirt and pulled it over his chest. Most of his old clothes fit well on his smaller frame from last year. But he gained more muscle over the summer, so now the shirts fit like a glove and rode up a little, showing off a little skin on his hips. He slid on his dark denim jeans and slipped on his shoes.
Jonas noticed that Hugh was watching him get dress, but didn't mind it. He even found himself flexing a little to show off. "What are you thoughts so far about Hawkings?" Hugh asked without taking his eyes off of Jonas.
"Different. I believed the rumors for so long, but they seem to be biased and wrong."
Hugh shook his head. "Yes and no. We are like a community, but we do have our few bad apples. This is a last chance school for a lot of the boys here. And we do love fighting and starting mischief. Honestly, it was really about 10 years ago that there was a shift in structure. The Kings used to be bullies and cruel, but a few kids wanted to right that wrong. So they got strong and defeated those Kings. Then they changed things. Created order and a hierarchy. I probably shouldn't have been a King so early, but I was hungry for power and took one of them down. It was a bad fight and I thought the former King would hold a grudge. But he actually was the opposite. He was glad that a younger person took his crown, because this meant that I had my whole high school career to take care of the school and pass down tradition.
"Being King isn't about control or power. It's about governing. It's like a student council, I suppose, but we use our fists. We have a few responsibilities, like humbling incoming freshmen and new transfers. This normally means that the Kings are mostly active the first two weeks of school, so prepare yourself. If someone challenges you, you have every right to refuse, but I recommend you don't. It's best if you just dominate and put them in their place.
"Also, if anyone wants to fight another student, they need permissions from one of the Kings. We manage the fights and supervise them. We make sure it doesn't get out of hand and grudges are dropped. But we also have to keep our ear to the ground to make sure that our students are not harassing anyone outside of the school. We'd rather maintain our current bad reputation and not make it worse. We don't have money like St. Vincent's to pay off everyone.
"And on that note, we also protect our people. We decided that Kings are the only ones who can fight without permission outside the school grounds. Sometimes, people cause problems and we need to shut them down. The Kings get the worse reputation in the town, but we're ok with that."
Jonas laughed. "Wow. That's actually impressive. How did Tank ever survive that?"
Hugh rolled his eyes. "Tank was a bad King and a bully. You did us a huge favor by taking his crown. Are you comfortable with this? If you're worried about college, there are actually a few institutions who understand our system and actually try to recruit Kings if they have a good reputation in Hawkings."
Jonas patted him on the shoulder. "I can get with this system and the way you do things here. It's actually comforting. I should have Eli transfer over."
Hugh chuckled. "That would be awesome." Hugh looked at his watch. "Well, ready for a busy day?"
Jonas shrugged on his jacket and he and Hugh walked out. They saw the other kids starting to file out while a few were helping with the dishes and were just finishing up.
Travis was pushing out the stragglers. "You'll be back in the afternoon anyway for studying so finish it then."
They all marched out of their dorms and headed to school.
