《Submission》Chapter 50

Lorelei needed to talk to someone, and it was killing her that Molly was in Fiji. With the time difference, Molly was asleep. Lorelei did not have many friends. She had fallen out of contact with her university friends and Mona was her only female co-worker that she felt close to besides Molly. She did not want to explain the racy photo to Mona.
Lorelei almost went back to her apartment, but she knew that she would be crying and cuddling Milo. She needed to talk, and there was only one person that would understand her situation.
Jody.
Lorelei knew that going to her was risky, but she did not know who else to go to.
She pulled out her cell. She cringed when she opened it and the first thing to show was Mateo's photo. She exited it and called Jody.
The phone rang and Lorelei prayed that she would answer. She did not know who else to call if Jody did not pick up.
"Hey, Lorelei," Jody said. Some of the tension eased from Lorelei's chest. "What's up?"
"Jesse and I just had a fight," she said.
"Oh, shit," Jody said. "About what?"
"The photo that Mateo took."
She could hear Jody let out a deep breath.
"I was afraid that would happen," Jody said.
"Seriously?" Lorelei asked. "And you still let me take that photograph?"
"I thought that the odds would be in your favour," she said. "Where are you?"
"I just left Jesse's."
"I live near him. Come over. I'll text you the address."
They said their goodbyes and Lorelei ended the call. Her phone buzzed with a text from Jody. Lorelei recognized the address as being a few blocks away so she walked over.
When she got up to Jody's apartment, she knocked on the door and Jody answered right away. Jody was wearing a pair of leggings and what she assumed was one of Mateo's shirts. She had no make-up on and Lorelei had never seen her look so natural. She was still in awe and struck by her beauty.

"Come in, Girl," Jody said. "We're making pancakes."
Lorelei stepped in and kicked off her shoes. She looked to the side to see that Mateo was standing at the stove. She did not consider that Mateo would be here. She now thought that maybe they lived together and she did not think about that before.
"Hey, Lorelei," Mateo said.
Jesse would be mad at her for being with Jody, but she knew that he would be outraged if he knew that she was with Mateo. He already thought she was cheating on him with Mateo.
"I should probably not be here," Lorelei said.
Jody waved her hand to try and dismiss Lorelei's worries.
"Don't worry about it," she said. "Jesse will lose the stick up his ass soon."
Jody sat down on one of the stools at the kitchen island. She pulled out the one next to her and patted it. Lorelei sucked in her bottom lip and thought about leaving before sitting down.
"So what happened?" Jody asked.
"This morning I went to the bathroom and when I came back he was on my phone," Lorelei said. "He saw a message from an unknown number, so he looked at it and then saw the photo."
"I didn't even get saved as a contact?" Mateo asked. "That's cold."
"Babe, that's not the issue right now," Jody said.
Mateo rolled his eyes and looked back down at the pancakes in the frying pan.
"Does Jesse often go through your phone?" Jody asked.
Lorelei shrugged.
"I've never caught him before," she said.
"It's his possessiveness taking over," Jody said. "He used to check my phone all the time. I was always changing my password."
Lorelei sighed as she ran her fingers through her hair. She wondered if he was on her phone in the middle of the night when she was asleep and he was awake with his insomnia.
"He was upset that I was nude in front of Mateo," Lorelei said.

"You weren't nude," Mateo said, without turning around.
"That's not the point," Lorelei said. "He thinks I am cheating on him."
"This is a dark hole you will probably down with Jesse," Jody said. "Me leaving him really messed him up. Because of me and his mom, he has trouble trusting women."
"What's wrong with his mother?" Lorelei asked.
Jody's phone rang and she pulled it out of her pocket. She raised her brows as she looked at the screen.
"Speak of the devil," she said.
Lorelei held onto her breath. Jody put her finger to her lips, motioning for Lorelei to be silent. Jody answered the phone and placed it on speakerphone, leaving it face up on the kitchen island. Lorelei could only see his name, but she could picture him scowling on the other side of the call.
"You can't be serious," Jesse spoke before Jody said hello. "You seriously made Lorelei pose naked?"
"She was wearing lingerie," Jody said. "And I didn't make her do anything. She wanted to take it for you."
"She's not going into modeling."
"She's not. It was one photo."
Lorelei chewed on her lip as she listened. He sounded mad, and she wondered how furious he would be if he knew she went to Jody's.
"She's not you," Jesse said. "She shouldn't be posing like that."
Nausea sat heavy in Lorelei's stomach. He didn't like her photo. She thought that maybe he was repulsed by it.
"You need to calm down," Jody said.
"I'm perfectly calm!" Jesse yelled.
Jody rolled her eyes.
"You're going to scare Lorelei off," she said. "Do you really want to lose her?"
"No, of course not," Jesse said.
"Then you better stop overreacting."
"This isn't an overreaction. I think Lorelei is going to break up with me."
Jody looked over at Lorelei, who shook her head. Breaking up with Jesse was the last thing she wanted to do.
"I seriously doubt she'd want to leave you," Jody said. "You probably just scared her off. Did you get mad at her for the photo?"
"I am mad Mateo took it," he said. "He needs to stay away from her."
Mateo looked over at Jody. He smirked and raised a brow. He opened his mouth and Jody waved her hands to silence him.
"Mateo is not interested in her," Jody said.
"That sounds really familiar," Jesse said sarcastically.
"She took that photo for you, Jesse," she said. "
Lorelei could hear Jesse let out a huff of breath.
"She's not meant to do that kind of thing," he said. "She should have asked me first."
"It's kind of hard when you are in jail," Jody said.
"Exactly," he snapped. "I was in jail for trying to keep her safe. Which I'll add, she got mad at me for doing. What if she is doing this to get back to me?"
Lorelei threw up her hands in frustration. She went out of her comfort zone to take that picture because she thought he would enjoy it, and now he thinks she did it with malicious intent. Jody could see Lorelei's annoyance and put her hand on Lorelei's arm to prevent her from getting up.
"Lorelei doesn't have a mean bone in her body," Jody said. "You know she wouldn't cheat on you or do anything to intentionally hurt you."
"Yeah, and I never thought that you would cheat on me either," Jesse said.
Jody scowled as she looked down at the phone.
"Jesse." Jody's calm voice turned serious. "We've been over this countless times. I never cheated on you."
"You cheated on me with Mateo," Jesse said. "And now, Lorelei is doing the same."
Jesse ended the call. Lorelei buried her head in her hands and cried.
