《Submission》Chapter 43

Molly brought Lorelei to the hotel gym. There were two men working out that gave them an odd look when they saw Molly in her wedding dress, but they continued lifting weights. Molly sat down on the bench and Lorelei sat next to her.
She could see her reflection in the mirror that covered the wall in front of them. Her makeup was smeared from both crying and having sex with Jesse. She could not believe that the two happened so close together. Her hair was a mess and she tried to fit the loose strands back into the pins.
"So what happened," Molly said. "Start at the beginning."
Lorelei told her friend every detail. She started at her and Jesse in the bathroom, the admission of love, and then her encounter with Bryan. Lorelei's voice shook as she tried not to cry. Molly kept her arm around Lorelei. She rubbed her arm as Lorelei spoke.
"He already told you that he loves you?" Molly asked.
"He did," Lorelei said. "I said that I love him too, but I do not know if I do anymore. The Jesse that I love would have never punched Bryan."
"Bryan was forcing himself on you though, right?"
Lorelei looked up at Molly and furrowed her brows.
"Are you defending him?" Lorelei asked.
"No," Molly said. "You know Jesse is screwed, right?"
"What do you mean?"
"Bryan is a cop, remember?"
Lorelei's heart sunk in her chest. She had completely forgotten that Bryan was a police officer. She knew that this was not going to end well for Jesse.
"Do you think he will press charges?" Lorelei asked.
"Unfortunately, yes," Molly said.
Lorelei bent forward as she struggled to breathe. Molly moved her hand so that she was rubbing Lorelei's back. Lorelei took in a sharp breath to stop herself from crying.
"Does Jesse know Bryan is a cop?" Molly asked.
"No," Lorelei said. "I never mentioned him before. He didn't know that I dated Bryan."
Molly sighed.
"Do you think that would have changed anything?" she asked.
"I don't know," Lorelei said. "When Jesse saw Bryan kissing me he had this look in his eyes. I had never seen it before. It scared me."

"Has he ever been rough with you? Well, outside of the bedroom."
"Hell, no. He always treated me so well."
Molly bit on her lip as she nodded her head. She stood and straightened her dress. She extended her hand down to Lorelei.
"Let's get back to the dancefloor," she said.
"I think I am going to be sick," Lorelei said.
"Come on," she said. "Let's get your mind off of it."
Lorelei's hand shook as she took Molly's. She tightened her grip on her hand as they walked out of the gym. She swallowed past the lump growing in her throat when she could hear the beat of the music coming from the wedding. Lorelei let go of Molly's hand to go to the bar. Molly followed.
"What are you doing?" Molly asked.
"Let's do a shot," Lorelei said.
"A shot? Are we in university?"
"Two Kamikaze shots, please."
The bartender nodded before making the shots. Lorelei had not done a shot since the night at The Alibi. She needed something to calm her nerves so that she could return to Molly's wedding and pretend that nothing was wrong.
The bartender put the shots in front of them. Lorelei handed one to Molly. They clinked them together before drinking. Lorelei's ears burned as the alcohol warmed her body. She thought about ordering another, but she knew that she would become emotional if she drank too much.
Molly pulled Lorelei onto the dancefloor. Molly requested multiple ABBA songs to try and cheer up Lorelei. She faked a smile and tried to push the thoughts of Jesse to the back of her mind. She wondered if any rumors were going around about what happened. She thought that people must be wondering where Bryan and Jake went to.
Lorelei was sweating and headed back to the bar to get something to drink. She thought she was going to burst into tears when she saw two cops walk into the wedding. They were in full uniform and caught everyone's attention.
Katrina and Tyler were at the other end of the bar. The cops walked up to them, and Lorelei could not hear what they were saying. She almost threw up when Katrina pointed across the bar at her.

Lorelei stepped away from the bar, not waiting for her drink. She had to get away from these cops. She did not want to accidentally say something that would get Jesse in more trouble.
"Miss Collins," a male voice said.
She turned to see the cops close behind her. Lorelei's mouth had gone dry and spoke in her betraying squeak.
"Yes?" she asked.
"We have to ask you a few questions," the taller one said. Lorelei could see the name Murphey embroidered on his uniform.
Lorelei did not want to speak in a squeak again, so she nodded her head. She siped her sweaty palms on her dress as she followed them out of the wedding. They went by the bathrooms and a pictured of Jesse's busted knuckles filled her mind.
"Can I have your full name?" Murphey asked as he pulled a small notepad out of his front pocket.
"Lorelei Collins," she said.
They asked her basic questions, such as her date of birth and address. She prepared herself for the harder questions that she knew would soon be coming.
"Do you know why we're here, Lorelei?" the shorter one with Beck written on his uniform asked.
"Because I was assaulted," she said.
Murphey looked up from his notepad and raised a brow.
"You were assaulted?" he asked.
Lorelei nodded.
"By who?" he asked.
"Bryan Cassidy," she said.
The two cops exchanged a look. Lorelei felt like they were secretly communicating. They must work with Bryan and when they questioned Bryan he must have left that part out.
"We're here because Bryan is currently in the ER with a broken nose," Murphey said.
"He said your boyfriend is the one who broke it too," Beck said.
"He was only defending me," Lorelei said.
"What's his name?" Murphey asked.
"Jesse," she said.
"Jesse what?"
Lorelei hesitated. She did not want to give them any information about Jesse. She needed to protect him.
"If you don't tell us we can just go over to the seating chart and find out," Murphey said. "Then you'll be charged with obstruction of justice."
Lorelei swallowed hard. She was stuck.
"Madden," she said.
Murphey nodded as he jotted the name down.
"You saw Jesse punch Bryan in the face?" he asked.
"Yes, but he didn't do anything wrong," Lorelei said.
"He assaulted an officer."
Lorelei's chest tightened. She wished she was the one to break Bryan's nose.
"Your officer was forcing himself on me," she said. "Besides, Jesse had no idea that he was a cop."
"Well, he'll soon know," Murphey said.
"What about Bryan? Isn't anything going to happen for him sexually assaulting me?"
Murphey clicked his pen and put the notepad back into his pocket.
"Were there any witnesses?" he asked.
"Yes," Lorelei said. "Jesse."
"How do we know that you two aren't conspiring against Bryan?"
"Excuse me?"
"Bryan told us that Jesse was jealous because you two were in love."
Lorelei scoffed and Murphey scowled. Beck put his hand on Murphey's shoulder.
"Miss Collins, we don't appreciate the attitude," Beck said. "I think that my colleague and I got all the information we need to make an arrest."
"An arrest?" Lorelei asked.
No, no, no, she thought. This can't be happening.
"Assualt and battery," Beck said. "It doesn't look good."
Lorelei thought her heart had stopped beating. She was frozen in place as she watched the cops walk away. Her eyes fell to the gun and handcuffs on their belt. She prayed that they would only use the handcuffs when arresting Jesse and that the gun would not be used.
There was no way that Jesse could deny it. His knuckles were busted.
She cursed herself for not leaving the bathroom with Jesse. If she had never left his side none of this would have ever happened.
