《Submission》Chapter 42

Lorelei tried to fix her hair in the mirror. Her skin was flushed and her lipstick was smeared. She tried to look as normal as possible when she left the bathroom.

The smile that was plastered on her face disappeared when she saw Bryan leaning against the wall. His tie was loose around his neck and the top couple of buttons of his shirt were undone. His hair was messy as if he had been running his fingers through it all night. He straightened when he saw Lorelei. His eyes scanned her from head to toe.

"I couldn't find you," he said. "I saw your boyfriend leave the bathroom fixing his shirt and I had a feeling you would be in there too."

Lorelei crossed her arms over her chest.

"So?" she asked. "Jesse is my boyfriend."

"Having sex in the bathroom at your friend's wedding?" he asked. "That's really classy."

"Just as classy as getting drunk?"

Lorelei felt hypocritical. If it was not for Jesse she would probably be tipsy right now. Bryan was drunk though. She could smell the alcohol on his breath.

"Why did you never return any of my texts?" he asked.

Lorelei kept eye contact with Bryan. She knew that there was a strong possibility that this was going to happen between them at the wedding. She was not going to back down.

"We would have never worked as a couple," she said.

"Everything was going so well," he said. "What happened?"

Lorelei's mind went blank as she tried to think of how to explain their lackluster night together.

"There was no chemistry," she said.

He narrowed his eyes at her.

"It was the sex, wasn't it?" he asked.

Lorelei sighed.

"It was," she said.

"Give me another shot," he said.

"Excuse me?"

Bryan took a step closer and Lorelei stepped back. He was shaking his head. He held his hand out in front of him.

"Sex for the first time is always awkward," he said. "Give me another shot."

Lorelei thought about her first time with Jesse. It was mindblowing when he tied her hands to the bed with his tie. Bryan did not even manage to give her an orgasm.

"No," she said. "I have a boyfriend."

"A guy you have barely dated," he said. "Come on. I'll blow your mind and you won't need him."

Bryan's words were slurring together. Lorelei's heart pounded and she let out a shaky breath. She needed to get back with Jesse and leave this wedding. She wondered if he was waiting for her at the bar around the corner.

"I said no," she said. "I need to get back."

"Lorelei, wait," he said.

She went to step around Bryan, but he snatched her wrist. She stumbled as he pulled her close. He wrapped his arms around her. He smashed his lips against hers. Her teeth hurt from the impact. She struggled in his hold as his tongue ran across her lips trying to gain access to her mouth.

Bryan was ripped away from Lorelei. Her eyes went wide when she saw Jesse behind them. He was gritting his teeth and was seething. He had a fistful of Bryan's shirt. He balled up his fist and punched Bryan in the face.

Bryan cried out in pain. Blood was gushing out of his nose. Jesse raised his fist again.

"Jesse!" Lorelei shrieked.

She grabbed his arm and held him back. He turned to look at Lorelei. His eyes looked murderous and her stomach twisted in a knot.

"What are you doing?" she asked.

The adrenaline pumping through her veins caused her to shout. Her heart was beating so loud it was pounding in her eyes.

Bryan was holding onto his face. The blood was dripping past his fingers and onto the floor. He was groaning in pain. Lorelei wondered if his nose was broken.

"He was forcing himself on you," Jesse said. "I'm not going to let anyone hurt you."

"You can't punch people!" Lorelei said.

Jesse let go of Bryan and he crumpled onto the floor. Jesse reached forward and Lorelei could see the blood on his knuckles. It was visible on top of the tattoos that decorated his fingers. She shook her head as she took a step back.

This was not the Jesse that she knew. This was not the man she had fallen in love with. Jesse was not supposed to be an abuser. He was supposed to be someone she could trust.

"Lorelei," he said.

He went to take a hold of her hand. She held her arms to her chest. She shook her head as she took another step back.

"Don't touch me," she said.

Molly and Anthony stepped around the corner. Molly furrowed her brows when she looked at Lorelei ad Jesse, but then her eyes fell down to Bryan. She covered her mouth with her hands. Anthony crouched down next to his friend.

"We thought we heard yelling," Molly said.

"What happened?" Anthony asked.

"He punched me!" Bryan said.

Molly's eyes went wide. Anthony moved Bryan's hands away from his face so that he could inspect his nose.

"Why'd you hit him?" Anthony asked.

"He was trying to have sex with Lorelei," Jesse said.

Anthony raised a brow. Molly tried to get closer to Bryan so she could look at his nose, but she struggled to get low in her dress.

"Is that true?" Anthony asked.

"She's such a whore," Bryan said. "How could she just be fucking another guy like that?"

Jesse clenched his fist and Lorelei grabbed Jesse's arm so that he could not try and attack Bryan together. He looked down at Lorelei and she shook her head.

"Don't do it," she said quietly.

She let go of his arm. Anthony helped Bryan get back onto his feet. Blood was dripping onto his white shirt. Bryan flinched when he touched his nose.

"It's probably broken," Molly said. "Someone should take him to the hospital."

"I'll get Jake to bring him," Anthony said.

"I'll go get him."

Jesse let out a deep breath. He brushed his blood knuckles on his pants. Lorelei crossed her arms and stared at her feet. She could not stand to look at either Jesse or Bryan.

"We should probably go," Jesse said.

Lorelei looked up at Jesse. Her eyes were glassy with tears. She was confessing her love to this man twenty minutes ago and now she did not recognize him. She thought that Jesse would never hurt anyone.

Now, they had ruined Molly's wedding.

"You should go," Lorelei said.

Jesse scowled. He walked past Lorelei, and she struggled to not look behind her to watch him leave. She blinked and a few tears rolled down her cheeks. She wiped them away with the back of her hand.

Molly returned with Anthony's groomsman Jake. They said nothing as Jake walked with Bryan out of the hotel. Bryan glared at Lorelei as he passed her.

Lorelei took in a sharp breath as she tried to stop the tears. Molly wrapped her arms around Lorelei. She sniffled, but the tears continued to fall.

"Let's go talk," Molly said.

"Go enjoy your wedding," Lorelei said. "I should probably go home."

"I'm not going to have fun without you," Molly said. "We'll talk quick and then go back to dancing. There are plenty more ABBA songs to play."

Lorelei nodded and Molly kept her arm around her as they walked away.
