《Submission》Chapter 17

Lorelei had not seen Molly since they were at Roasters. They were on a night shift together, but they were both so busy that Lorelei did not have time yet to confront Molly about inviting Jesse to the wedding.

Lorelei was sitting in the break room eating her salad. She was watching the door and waited for Molly to come in.

After a few minutes, Molly waltzed into the room. She was sipping on a coffee she got from the cafeteria. Her dark curls were twisted up and held in place by a pen. Lorelei dropped her fork in her salad and scowled.

"What's that face for?" Molly asked. "Did Room Five's wife call again? I swear she's such a-"

"That's not why I'm mad," Lorelei cut her off.

"Then what has gotten you so sour?" Molly asked.

Lorelei crossed her arms over her chest. She watched as her friend pulled her meal out of the fridge and placed it in the microwave.

"Seriously?" Lorelei asked. "You don't know why I am mad at you?"

"I know you don't like the colour of your maid-of-honour dress, but we have already been over that," Molly said.

Lorelei scoffed and rolled her eyes.

"You had no right to invite Jesse to the wedding," she said.

"Last time I checked it was my wedding," Molly said. "I can invite whoever I want."

"I barely know the guy. You don't know him at all."

"Then why did he say yes?"

Lorelei shrugged. Molly smirked, feeling like she had already won the argument. There was a beep and she pulled her container out of the microwave.

"Do you see the way that he looks at you?" Molly asked.

"What are you talking about?" Lorelei asked.

Molly leaned against the counter and twirled her pasta around her fork.

"I thought Anthony looked at me special," she said, "but Jesse has stars in his eyes when he looks at you."

Lorelei sucked in her bottom lip. She could vaguely remember what Jody said in the Alibi. She recalled that it was something about him being possessive. That word terrified Lorelei. Matthew was possessive jealous type, which was ironic considering his betrayal.

"You don't think he's going to turn into another Matthew, do you?" she asked.

"I doubt Jesse is going to sleep with your Mom," Molly said with a mouthful of food.

Lorelei pinched the bridge of her nose. She and Molly had many nights full of ice cream and wine after she had walked in on Matthew and her Mom. Lorelei preferred that Molly did not speak about it because she wanted it to be a distant memory. The excessive calls from Matthew and her Mom stopped her from forgetting about it though.

"Let's not talk about that," Lorelei said.

Her phone vibrated on the table and she raised a brow. She wondered who would be texting her at two in the morning. She looked at the screen to see that it was a message from Jesse. She smiled and swiped her thumb across the screen.

Molly chuckled when she saw Lorelei beaming with a smile. She watched as Lorelei typed a message.

The heat rushed to Lorelei's cheeks. She could not recall Matthew ever sending her a message like that before. Molly was about to say a sarcastic remark when the door opened. Benson walked in, waved, and went to the fridge to pulled out a water bottle. He turned and looked at Lorelei staring at her phone.

"Did you win the lottery or something?" Benson asked.

"What?" Lorelei looked up from her phone.

"Doesn't she look goofy?" Molly said. "She's got a boy."

Benson's smile wavered for a moment. He took in a deep breath before taking a drink of water.

"Who is he?" he asked.

"Someone she met online," Molly said. "And he's really-"

"Molly!" Lorelei shouted.

Molly snickered. Benson raised a brow.

"He's really what?" he asked.

"Good with his hands," Lorelei said. "He's a mechanic."

Molly rolled her head back as she laughed. Lorelei's phone vibrated in her hands and she snuck a look at the screen. When she saw it was a longer message, she swiped her thumb across the screen.

"What does it say?" Molly asked.

Lorelei looked up from her phone. Benson could sense her hesitation. He put two fingers two his forehead and saluted Lorelei and Molly before leaving the breakroom. Molly set her container down and pulled out the chair across the table from Lorelei and sat down.

"What did Romeo text you?" Molly asked.

"He wants to come over in the morning," Lorelei said.

Molly's eyes went wide and she reached across the table to rip the phone out of Lorelei's hands.

"Molly, give me my phone back," Lorelei said.

"Let me type something," she said.

"Don't type anything!"

"If it wasn't for me you would have never texted him."

Lorelei's heart pounded in her chest as she watched Molly type a message. She slid it across the table and Lorelei read the screen.

Lorelei's eyes widened in horror. She wished that she never let Molly have her phone. She knew that Molly would write something embarrassing.

"How do I unsend a message?" she asked.

"You can't," Molly said. "He's going to love it. Trust me."

Lorelei's phone vibrated. Her hands shook as she opened the message.

"Great," Lorelei said. "Now he thinks that I'm crazy."

"Tell him you're good at deepthroat," Molly said.

"You know I can't do that."

"I told you to practice with a banana."

Lorelei rolled her eyes. Molly smiled and leaned back in the chair.

Lorelei had no clue what to message Jesse. She didn't want him to know that Molly had sent the message. It was like someone had encroached on their intimate relationship.

"Hopefully, that will save the conversation," Lorelei said.

"You said your relationship was just sex," Molly said. "Some dick sucking shouldn't bother you."

Lorelei sighed. She knew Molly was right. She opened up her phone again to see another message.

Lorelei turned her phone to show Molly the message. Molly reached for the phone, but Lorelei clutched it to her chest.

"You two are sure spending a lot of time together," Molly said.

"Is that a problem?" Lorelei asked sarcastically.

"It's just your honeymoon phase."

Lorelei had a flashback to Jody saying those words in the Alibi. It seemed to have triggered Jesse in the club. Lorelei knew that must of meant that Jesse really didn't want a relationship, confirming her suspicion that he only wanted sex.

Lorelei shoved her phone into the front pocket of her scrubs. She stood and held onto her stethoscope around her neck as she left the break room. Her mind was heavy with thoughts of Jesse for the rest of the night.
