《The Best Man ✔》Chapter VXIII

Stuck.
Watching Nathan in the kitchen was definitely something I could get used to because he made a simple thing like making breakfast look so incredibly sexy. He was just really sweet and caring, and I realized that having him around wasn't such a bad idea after all.
I'm still heavily medicated in case you're wondering, and I might be blowing things out of proportion a bit
“So, how are you feeling today?”, he asked, giving me my second cup of coffee for the day after the hearty breakfast he just made us and I took a sip
“Better than yesterday”
“And by yesterday you mean the part of the day before I got here, right?”, there was humor in his voice and I laughed a little
“Well yeah, your presence really helped.....here and there”, I winked at him, and he smiled while biting his lower lip seductively
“I'm glad to have been of assistance”, he placed his cup in the sink and rinsed it.
“I got a go though, I have a patient in an hour and I still have to change into a fresh set of clothes”, he kissed me on the cheek
“Okay”
“Let me just grab my things I left in the bedroom”, he said, and I gave a nod and watched him walk away. I was about to stand up to go watch some TV before hearing the front door opening and closing.
“Liv?”, the sound of Anna's voice echoed around the room and I felt like shrinking underneath the earth or something
“Are you awake?”
Nathan is also in the next room. How am I going to get out of this?
Fuck!!
“Hey”, I walked out of the kitchen, and she smiled while hopping excitedly towards me to engulf me in a tight hug
“I'm so glad to see you on your own two feet again”, she held me at arms length after we broke away from the hug. I was still tensed up, praying that Nathan doesn't show up just yet until I can usher her out of here as soon as I could without her noticing anything.
“How are you-”
“Liv, have you by chance seen where I- Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize you had company”, Nathan was halfway through his question as he walked in on me and Anna, who's lips were slightly parted in surprise

“Throw me down the stairs”, she uttered under her breath from the sight of him and how good-looking he actually is before she turned her head to look at me with her eyebrow raise. That questioning look at made me want to hide under a table or something to avoid the questions that are coming my direction. I lowered my gaze to avoid ever making eye contact with the both of them.
“Hi, I'm Anna”, she extended her arm towards Nathan, and he placed his hand in hers. “I'm Olivia's female best friend”
“Nice to meet you Anna”, they shook hands. “I'm Nathaniel-”
“Nathan here is my psychologist”, I quickly chipped in, doing my nervous laugh and both their heads turned to look at me, looking all confused before they exchanged looks again as they broke their contact
“Psychologist?”, Anna questioned as
the confused state didn't leave her face as she looked at me again. “I didn't know you're seeing a psychologist”
“Uh, yeah”, I mumbled under my breath, my lurking to every corner of the room to avoid making strict eye contact with her
“You do house calls?”, she curiously asked Nathan as she titled her head to the side, interrogative stare in place
“Seems like it”, he carelessly shrugged his shoulders before walking to pick up his jacket where he left it last night
“Anyways, I have to go. It was nice to meet you again, Anna”, his hand turned on the door knob.
“It was nice to meet you too, Nathaniel”, he gave a short nod before he opened the door to leave, but he stopped midtrack to turn back again
“Oh Olivia, I'll be in touch about our session on Sunday, yeah?”, I immediately picked the sarcastic tone in his voice and I gave a short nod at him. He closed the door behind him and my eyes found Anna's as she folded her arms and her eyebrow raised in suspicion.
“Is it me or have you gained a little weight there, Ann?”, I laughed nervously, steering up another conversation as I walked past by her to sit on the couch, and she was already standing in front of me
“Cut the bullshit Olivia”, she deadpanned, and I gulped heavily because she just called me by my full name, and she looked pissed, meaning it was not good

“You're sleeping with your psychologist?”, she air quoted before she folded her arms again. “Also, why is it that am I only hearing about you seeing a psychologist now?”
“It's not what it looked like”, I attempted to stand up cause her piercing gaze was literally burning through me, but she forced me back on the couch
“Sit your lying and secretive ass down”, she demanded and my eyes widened before I cradled my feet to my chest, she looked scarier by the second
“Have you been always such a bully?”
“I'm not playing with you, Liv. Talk”.
“Bleh bleh bleh?”, I stuck my tounge out, and she grabbed one of the cushions on my couch to hit me with it and I shielded my face with my hands
“I will knock you the fuck out”
“Okay fine I'll talk”, I shifted to the side, creating space for her to sit next to me. “But you might want to sit down for this”
“I even have to sit down?”, she exclaimed as she sat next to me and nudged me with her elbow. “Okay, I'm seated now talk”
“Okay so, remember that one-night stand I had a few weeks ago?”
“What's that have to do with this?”, she asked in a dull tone while blinking her eyes slowly, and I rolled my eyes
“The guy that just walked out of here is the same guy I slept with that night”
She paused for a second, really looking confused as she seemed to connect all the dots together in her mind while stroking her chin, making her thinking pose
“This guy just said his name is Nathaniel and if I remember correctly you told me the guy you slept with that night was Anthony. Like I don't understand, was he catfishing you?”
“Anthony happens to be his middle name. He's actually Nathaniel, as in Mellisa's cousin”.
“Wait”, she put up her index finger. “The same Nathaniel Kevin and Sarah were talking about that they had come with to the club?”, she questioned, and I nodded my head.
“Yep”
“The same guy who didn't show up for dinner that night?”
“The one and only”
“Well, isn't this a bitch?”, her jaw dropped in surprise before she folded her arms again. “So, you guys are now dating here or am I missing something?”
“We're just friends”
“You can't be just friends with someone you're sleeping with”
“Whoa, back up”, I held out my hands at her, telling her to chill for a second. “Who said anything about us sleeping together?”
“Do I look dumb to you?”, she narrowed her eyes at me. “The sexual tension in here was so thick I could cut it with an axe”
“Really?”, I asked surprised, and she placed both hands on her head, initiating an explosion with her fingers at how intelligent she is at figuring this out
“So you're using him as a rebound?”, she questioned and that wasn't a hard question, but I kinda hesitated for a second
“Not in so many words but-”
“So you are using him as a rebound”, she interrupted before shaking her head, making that tsk tsk sound. “Shame on you, Liv”
“We have a mutual understanding about the whole thing, and he doesn't seem to have a problem with it, so”, I put up my hands in a surrender, and she studied me for a second
“So much for being done with men”, she mimicked my voice childishly as she stood to her feet. “Well, I just came here to check up on you and you look a lot better than you did yesterday”
“I feel better actually”
“I wonder why”, she added sarcastically and I laughed. “Well, I'll be back after work so that you can tell me everything”
“I pretty much expected that”, I did that nodding with the face thing
“And don't you dare leave this apartment until I get back, you're still sick”, she ordered, and I gave a mini salute
“Ma'am yes ma'am”
“Do you want me to get you anything at the stores when I come back?”
“Not at the moment, but I'll text you if I do”
“Sure thing”, she put up her fist, and we fist pumped. “I'll see you later then”
“Bye Anna, I love you”, I called out to her before she closed the door behind her and she laughed
“I know”
