《The Best Man ✔》Chapter XIX

Sundays

My least favorite day of the week, I don't know why, but I honestly didn't enjoy Sundays because it was either I was suffering from a massive hangover from the previous night and that the following day was a Monday, meaning....work

Nathaniel asked me to help him move into his new apartment today and I wasn't sure I wanted to go anymore after the whole encounter with Anna the other day. We haven't like actually talked about it. He seemed hurt about the whole thing and I really wouldn't blame him for it because I would too.

As much as I wanted to keep things between us a secret, the lies were piling on top of each other and I didn't like it. This wasn't me and I hated that I was dragging Nathan into all of this. I was using him as a coping mechanism for my breakup with Greg and if the tables were reversed, I wouldn't want to be in a situation like that and I probably would want to end things effective immediately.

Maybe that's what I'm supposed to do.....after apologizing to him

The cab dropped me in front of his apartment complex, and it looked huge, covered in very high walls. I pressed on his apartment number on one of the buttons on the intercom so that he can buzz me in.

“Yeah?”

“Hi, it's me Liv”

“Come right up”, there was a buzzing sound first before the gates unlocked, allowing me access and I walked inside, already walking towards the long stairs because he was on the third floor. When I finally reached it, I searched for his apartment number on the different dark painted doors on that floor until I finally reached it.

Apartment 39

I knocked twice and waited. The door pulled open, with him standing opposite me wearing his casual clothes, looking twice as good-looking than he already does.

“Hi”, I gave a little smile, and he gave a short nod

“Olivia Davis”, he said curtly as he invited me in and closed the door behind me. “You must be here for our session”

“Come on”, I laughed a little. “You can't still be mad about that”

“I'm not mad”, his face showed no expression as he shrugged. “I'm just saying it wouldn't hurt if you acknowledged what was happening between us just for once. We can't be a secret forever”.

“I know and I'm sorry”

“It's fine”, he opened his arms wide, gesturing for a hug. “Come here”

I walked up to him, wrapping my arms around his neck and he locked me in his warm embrace and I could swear I felt him breathe out a sigh of relief, holding onto me

“I missed you”, I heard him whisper against my ear before slowly pulling away from me, almost like he didn't want to but had to, to avoid overstepping boundaries

“I missed you too”, I admitted truthfully, and he pressed his lips on my forehead before entwining our hands together

“I'm glad you came”, he twirled me around so that he could hug me from behind, and I got a clear view of his large and spacious, partially furnished apartment

“I thought I was helping you with moving your stuff in here, you didn't tell me the apartment was already furnished”

“If by furnished you mean this couch and the king-sized bed in the other room then yeah, it's totally furnished”, he said humorously while folding his arms across his chest

“I see”, I gave a nod of understanding before peeking into one of the boxes. “So where do you want me?”

“A simple question and yet so many answers”, a mischievous smirk grew on the face

“We can start right here on this couch, maybe take it to the kitchen counter top next, then maybe on end up on the bed afterwards”, he stroked his chin as he listed all the possible place he assumed I was saying we should fool around

“No you idiot”, I hit him playfully with the back of my hand on his chest. “I meant where do you want me to start?”

“I know what you meant Liv”, he laughed before leaning to kiss me on my shoulder. “I need you to help me unpack all these boxes and add a few feminine touches here and there, you know?”

“I'm really awful at adding feminine touches here and there hey”

“You could like give it a shot at least, right?”

“I guess I could try”

“That's my girl”, he grinned before walking to his Bluetooth speaker and turned it on, connecting his phone and started playing music

“This should help us finish quickly”, he said while already starting to unpack one box. I took a look at all the boxes surrounding the room and drew a breath, there were just so many of them.

So help us God

About three and a half hours later we were finished, only left with packing his groceries and the kitchenware. It's weird how quickly time passed by when I was with him. The conversations kept flowing, and we always had something to talk about. He was a tease, goofy and really made me laugh. What I liked about him was that he challenged me and I got to be myself when I was around him, I didn't have to pretend to be someone I'm not because he could obviously see through me. He was really fun, wise, acted stupid sometimes but all in all, he was really sweet and made me feel appreciated because he knew how to me feel like a woman......if you get what I mean #wink wink.

He was a genuinely a great guy and as much as I hate to admit it, I kinda liked to be around him cause when I was with him, I felt... I don't know...like happy and ish and I knew I was getting attached. I mean yes, the sex was great; i n c r e d i b l e.

-Ahem... mind-blowing actually

And there was absolutely nothing not to like about him, but I just couldn't. I wasn't putting myself in the firing line for another heartbreak. He seemed like he was just good to be true and that in itself doesn't guarantee a flawless relationship.

When I finished packing the glasses in cups on the top shelf in the kitchen, he was leaning on the counter, holding his cheek in his hand and just looking at me

“What?”

“Have you always been this beautiful?”, he questioned looking all smitten, his eyes never leaving mine not even for one second and I gave a nervous laugh before walking away from him then felt his hands wrap around my waist, turning me around and pulled me to him

“Nathan, what are you doing?”

“Dance with me”, I only realized that Can you stop the rain by Peabo Bryson was playing on the speaker

“Now?”, I asked, a soft chuckle leaving my lips

“I don't see why not”, he took my hand and started twirling me around, I giggled, and he smiled softly as I wrapped my arms around his neck. His hands travelled down my body and rested firmly on my waist. I strangely enjoyed being this close to him, being able to take in his scent and getting lost in his eyes. A smile crept into my lips as I noticed him smiling down at me, swaying us around the spacious lounge.

🎶How can I go on?

Baby I'd be living on memories

Of you and me

All the love we made

All those tender nights

All those endless days

They're all here inside🎶.

🎶Baby can you stop the rain from falling?

Won't you chase my clouds away?

I'd give anything to see the sun again

Only you can stop these tears from falling

I can't face another day

Baby can you stop🎶,

“Can you stop the rain?”, he finished off the chorus while leaning me backwards, kissed my neck and brought me up into my balance again.

I breathed out a laugh before he spun me around one last time and was about to lean in for a kiss but the sound of the intercom buzzing interrupted, and he groaned while leaning his forehead against mine and cursed under his breath, peeling away a few seconds later to press on the button

“Yes?”

“Hey, we're here dude. Open the fucking gate”, Kevin's voice from the intercom echoed around the room and there were laughs from the background, one laugh that clearly stood out was Tristan's because I knew it so well.

“Sure”, Nathan said as he buzzed them in and turned to look at me. I was already cringing where I was standing.

“I forgot to tell you that will be a house-warming party kinda thing”, he breathed out. “Their idea not mine”

“Do they know I'm here?”

“I'm sure they'll take it that I invited you too”, his hands caressed my arms softly when he probably noticed that I was panicking

“Maybe I should go”

“We'll be okay”, he chuckled softly, and I hesitated, not quite sure whether I should leave before they got here or stay. All those uncertainties however quickly dissolved when Nathan kissed me fully on the lips so daringly and passionately, my knees went weak for a good minute. We only broke away from each other when there was a knock on the door.

“Just relax, okay?”, he whispered against my lips before gently biting on my lower lip one more time

“Okay”, the kiss had weakened my state of mind and obviously I would agree to anything at that moment. I had to catch up on my breath while fanning my face with my hand, suddenly feeling really hot.

“You good?”, he asked and when I gave a nod, he went ahead and open the door. I quickly jumped over the couch to take a sit. There were cheers of excitement as the group walked inside, bearing alcohol and snacks.

“Sweet apartment, Nate”, Sarah said as the guys made a long appreciative whistle while they studied their surroundings and Nathan thanked them before both Tristan and Kevin piled two 6-packs of beer in his hands. Tristan stopped walking mid-action when his eyes met mine and I smiled at him, giving a small wave. Then all eyes were on me.

“Hey Liv”, they all seemed surprised to see me and Tristan sat next to me

“Fancy seeing you here, Liv”, Mellisa also said as she sat beside him. Kevin and Sarah also found a seat opposite me and Kevin's eyebrow quirked up as he looked at me and Nathan suspiciously.

“Is there something going on between you two?”
