《Pride and Ashes: A werewolf Story》Chapter 12: Blue Moon Ceremony
Advertisement
Blue Moon, you saw me standing alone,
Without a dream in my heart,
Without a love of my own,
Blue moon, you knew just what I was there for,
You heard me saying a prayer for,
Someone I could care for,
And then there suddenly appeared before me,
Someone my arms could really hold,
I heard you whisper "Darling please adore me,"
And when I looked to the moon it had turned to gold
-Blue Moon
A cloud of silence had fallen over the castle.
Many eyes glanced at what form of devices they could find that showed time to their wondering eyes.
Mr. Joseph looked around the ballroom nervously making the last walk to check that everything was in place, before taking out his phone.
One more minute.
The kitchen did not stop in their hurried dash as they ran around with the hot fires and heat of the stoves radiating off them. Only one worker took the time to stop and look up at the ticking clock above their heads.
One more minute.
Fayette, Jane, Lizzy, and Charles set down the plates and silverware for the dining hall, followed by many professional decorators who looked into the small details and adjusted the plates to face a certain way, made sure the forks were correctly placed, that the flowers would not fall onto anyone's spot.
Fayette asked Lizzy for the time, only to have Charles look at the watch on his wrist and say, "11:59."
"One more minute," Fayette said.
The seconds ticked by until they dwindled down to the final few, as the handle completed its full rotation around the circle of the clock.
There was a moment of silence. And then the Bells started to ring.
One by one, each deep sonorous sound echoed across the halls of the palace as each worker took a moment to pause in their movement and lean their heads towards the source of the noise.
All took in a deep breath.
But only a moment was spared for the 12 o'clock noon bells.
Gradually each began to go back to their own work, knowing that the bells signaled only one thing.
The Blue Moon Ceremony had begun.
The room was beautiful.
Covering the walls were stain glass artworks, showing the history of the wolf. The noon sun filtered through it, splashing the seated crowd below in color.
No one wore any color. Only a sea of white could be seen out. As the stained glass cast its glow, many lifted their eyes to the source of what painted them, taking in the artwork for a second before bowing their head.
They were waiting.
Heads jerked up when the deep ringing was heard of the bells.
It had begun.
In the front from the side, the King, Queen, and Prince entered and stood above the crowd.
Each wore their own royal color as was tradition. On the birth of princes, fathers were expected to choose a color that they thought best suited their sons for their reign. The same tradition applied to Princesses and mothers.

However, Queen Isadora only bore one male child. The privilege was something that only the King would experience.
The King stood before the crowd in a fashioned red suit that bore a striking resemblance to a military coat of the Royal Werewolf Army. Instead of gold lining though, the color had been replaced with white- the official color of the land that symbolized the moon the Werewolf's lived by.
The Queen was embellished in an elegant green dress, the official color of Queens, that faded to the bottom in a cloud of white.
The Prince stood still wearing a formal, yet plain black suit. The only white seen on him was the collared shirt. His attire stood out the most among the white cloud below and the colors beside him.
The King stepped past the Queen and Prince and spoke out to the waiting cloud, "Let the Blue Moon Ceremony begin."
A rush of excitement filled the air as the mass started to nod and sway.
The King held his place in front and lift his hands upward.
The mass knew what he would say, and so, as the King spoke his words, he was accompanied by the many voices all saying the lines that were taught to all from the time they were born,
"And in the light is the moon,
and I, I see the moon,
and she, she sees me.
Let me wane through the years,
under her watchful gaze,
as forever she is there,
sitting above us still to stay."
A hush fell over everyone. No one moved waiting for the Kings next words.
"Bring the Fire," he said.
A man came from the same unseen side door that the royal family had entered through. In his hands was a bowl that had a flame fixed inside it. Motioned to the man, the King waved his hands towards a table that was in front of him. The man set the flame down and took a seat with the mass below.
"Everyone has brought their pieces?" The King questioned.
The seriousness in the air was not broken by the question. Everyone had their pieces. Those who forgot took a quick glance at the prince and gulped back whatever they were going to say about not having it.
The King gave another quick look around the room and then continued, "We bring forth pieces of paper that we will burn. These papers have written on them what you would like to rid from your past." The King smiled and flashed a piece of paper to his people watching. With his demonstration, he placed the slip in the flames, as all watched on in awe of the fire eating what was written, now never to be seen.
After the King came the Queen, and then the Prince.
He looked down at his paper, written on it were only two words,
"My Search."
Closing his eyes he tossed the paper into the fire and turned his back to the onlookers.
One by one each person came forth and set their paper in the fame. Some cried. Others looked relieved. Some did not look affected at all.

It was swiftly done. Only those of high rank and social status were allowed to partake in the Blue Moon Ceremony. Many took honor in such attendance and came, but the crowd still only sized to roughly 200.
Most were waiting in their rooms for the real fun that would happen later that night.
Once the crowd was seated, the King got up from his chair that was placed in the front to the side.
"A new burning will take place now. This time we will burn pieces of paper that have written something new that you would like to come forth in your life." The King once again demonstrated to the mass, with the Queen and Prince following after him.
The Prince did not even take a second glance at his paper as he threw it away into the flames.
The mass came forth again. Some were starting to realize how tedious the ceremony was going to be. Others again, however, were overwhelmed with emotion when throwing their paper into the flames.
The King gave a soft sigh of exhaustion of how much was left of the Ceremony.
Getting back up once everyone was seated, he raised his hands and yelled, "Bring the water!"
Two men appeared from the side door. One took away the flame and disappeared, the other placed a bowl of water before the King.
The King nodded his thanks and turned to the crowd.
"Take from you, water."
Servants quickly passed out cups of water to the people.
"This water is from the Lunar Stream," The King said. "Early this morning I, my son and your Queen went to the stream. Together we walked in the stream to prepare ourselves for this ceremony."
The people stared in awe at the royal family. Then saw the prince and averted their eyes. His presence was a dark wave of fury. All in the room could feel the radiation of power, and some were shocked to located it coming not from the King but from the son.
The King pushed aside whatever thoughts were traveling through the cloud's head and focused on the ceremony at hand. Putting his hands in the water he spoke saying, "Drink the water that is offered and cleanse yourself. Then come forward and dip your hands in the water- for our purpose today is to rid ourselves of the old and celebrate the new."
The mass followed their King's instructions, drinking the water, waiting for the Queen and Prince to wash their hands, and then proceeding up there themselves.
A wave a tiredness could already be sensed from some after having to stand up multiple times and wait for the ceremony.
The King knew though that the final process of the ceremonial part was coming to a close.
"Thank you all for coming and celebrating this Blue Moon."
The mass nodded and voiced their welcomes.
The King cleared his throat and said, "We lastly must remember our place. We must remember the wolf."
The mass nodded again.
The King stepped aside and the Queen took his place where he stood. She spoke in a clear strong voice, telling the story of the wolf to the people.
"Old old, long long ago when humans still had access to the land and freely roamed, a village was walking through the forest. The people were moving to a better land.
While in the forest though, a wolf walked past the people. The wolf paid no mind to the people, ignoring them, and the people respected the power of the wolf. One girl, however, said to herself, "if only I could have a husband like that! Graceful and Powerful yet so deadly and beautiful.
Later that night when the village was sleeping, the wolf came to the girl, for he had read her heart and what she was thinking. He turned into a man and woke the girl telling her to come with him. The girl left her family and went with the wolf.
The wolf and girl had two sons. As the sons grew, however, they began to notice how different they were from their father. For he was a full wolf, who was able to take the shape of man, while the sons were full man, only able to take the shape of a wolf.
The girl, now a woman, told her wolf husband that their sons wished to experience human life. Reluctant at first, the wolf eventually gave in and let her go.
The woman's father had been mourning the loss of his daughter for so long. When in the middle of the night she suddenly appeared. He was overjoyed. She showed him how different she and her sons were and explained to him all that had happened. Her father, wanting the woman back, said to her that he accepted both her and the wolf.
And so the tribe prospered greatly because of the father's great sense in respecting the wolf. The tribe grew bigger and the wolf eventually overtook the men and women of the pack, until the term werewolf was born and created.
Thus," the Queen concluded, "is the story of the wolf."
The mass exhaled knowing the Queen had given out the short version of the story.
The King looked openly mad at the Queen for leaving out details, but wiped away his anger by forcing a smile and saying, "Let us remember the wolf!"
The prince stepped up and a few gasps were heard. This was his one part in the ceremony that the King had greatly debated on giving to him.
Looking at the quivering mass the Prince spoke in a normal level voice that seemed to somehow be heard by all saying, "Let us now eat."
Several people in the front row fell off their seats, having fainted on the spot.
Omy gosh that was so long but I hope ya'll enjoyed it! <3
