《DIEGO'S INNOCENCE》CHAPTER EIGHT

DIEGO'S POV.

I stare at Siara and Bobby as they bow their heads. I look on as their bodies shake in what seems to be fear.

"Mr Martino," Bobby acknowledges my presence, his hand moving to wipe his forehead. I nod at him, my eyes set on the beauty that is in the room.

"Mr Gomez, welcome." Bobby says to Hunter, his voice sounding nervous.

Bobby has been working with us for ten years now, we grew up in the church together.

Hunter, Bobby and I used to play together when our guardians were in church. My parents and their guardians were in church thinking we were in Sunday school, while we sneaked out to play at the nearest park, coming back before the Sunday school teacher could notice and twenty minutes before the pastor stopped preaching; it was talent.

Hunter and I grew up like best friends because of the many similarities we share, even though he is a few months older.

While Hunter and I were fearless, Bobby was the scared one. Hunter and I did crazy stuff together, while Bobby followed along.

The three of us discovered the gang together, we smoked our first blunts together, went to the club together.

Bobby hid behind us the whole time, he hid from his family. He did all his evil doings, pretending to be a saint infront of everyone.

He was the perfect son, the perfect brother and the perfect church boy while Hunter and I were rebellious.

I was more rebellious then Hunter, though. Hunter became the way he is because of me.

Hunter just wanted to protect me, to be with me when I fell, like right now. Hunter and I have formed a brotherly bond that is not explainable.

Hunter is with me because I was with him when he was abused by his guardians. Our suffering was different, but our pain was the same.

My parents abused me both physically and verbally, while Hunter got abused verbally.

Bobby just wanted to fit in with us, even when his parents warned him to stay away from us. Bobby was the perfect child, a son everyone wanted in public.

Bobby went home early, waited for himself to sober up and did not drink more than he could handle. He was the good one between us.

It took some years for Bobby to follow us, but he finally did when his parents wanted to send him to work for some politicians, corrupt politicians in exchange for money.

But he still has to call us by our last names, especially when we are infront of people. No one needs to know that we were friends, that would attract too much attention and Bobby can be targeted. I do not like Bobby, but I do not want him to get harmed.

I watch in silence as Hunter and Bobby interact, a small smile forming on Hunter's face as he finally notices Ms Rowland.

"Who might you be?" Hunter asks, walking towards the nervous looking lady. His lips set in a smirk while hers are set in a frown.

I chuckle when Ms Rowland snorts, looking at Hunter with a displeased expression.

"I am non of your business," she answers, looking at him, the fear she once had long gone, or maybe she is hiding it behind the brave girl act.

Hunter and Bobby look shocked while I watch on, my eyes taking in the beautiful lady.

Her choice of clothing is not fit for the occasion, especially when she is suppose to be a lawyer. But she looks beautiful in it. Jeans are for for every occasion, if I am not mistaken.

"W-what?" Hunter asks, looking at the small petite girl, his tall frame towering over her. I can hear the disbelief in his voice, which I am clearly enjoying.

Girls behave like ants attracted to sugar when they see Hunter and I, so her reaction is truly unexpected.

"I said it ain't your business," She repeats, folding her arms on her chest.

Hunter seems to be amazed because he chuckles, moving away from her.

"I like your attitude," He says, stretching his hand out to her.

"Hunter Gomez," he introduces himself to her. Siara looks at the hand, a frown on her face, it looks like she is not going to accept the handshake. Hunter is about to move his hand away when she finally places her hand in his.

"Siara Rowland,"she murmurs, looking at his face with a serious expression, separating her hand from Hunter's.

Hunter raises his eyebrows at her, curiosity present on his face. "I am the person that is in charge of Mr Martino's case, and I am an intern at Grand law firm." She says with a firm voice, Hunter's face has realization when the words leave Ms Rowland's mouth.

"I have heard a lot about you from the law firm and also university," Hunter says. "I am sorry for not recognizing you. The people there did tell me that you were young, I just didn't expect you to be...."

"Black," Ms Rowland says to which Hunter nods.

"I hope I have not offended you in any way, that is not my intention." Hunter says. "It's just surprising to see a young black woman practicing to be a lawyer in this city, it's a very rare thing. Everyone knows how the city is all about men than females and I am happy to see that women are fighting for something they love, and also fighting for equality." He continues to which Ms Rowland's nods.

I can tell that she got offended at first, but she seems more relaxed now.

The room falls silent with each of us in thought, my wrist paining while Hunter has his eyes on me.

I can tell that I have lost the argument. Am I upset? Yes. Do I want to beat the shit out of Hunter? Yes. Will I do it? No.

I know that Hunter has my best interest at heart and he has done so much for me, and he is still doing so much for me. So, I will not fight him on anything. I will follow whatever he says because I know that he has my back like I have his.

The silence is interrupted when the door opens, a man I have come to recognize in the past few months enters.

"Mr Martino," The man exclaims, forcing a small smile on his face.

"Dr phil." I nod my head at him, smirking when I see him shaking in fear.
