Ladidadida slob on my knob- hi
"Thank you for coming." I said pulling Hayley, my best friend into a hug. She hugged me back and pulled away before squinting her eyes at me, "Are you okay? I heard a fire broke out at your job?"
"Is that all?" Of course he covered it up, he practically owns the city, which probably includes the cops.
"Well... Yeah, did something else happen?" She asked frowning and I shook my head, ""No, no. Nothing, I'm just too scared to sleep alone tonight."
We went to my bedroom and she laid down on my bed before letting out a big sigh, "Well I'm here as requested-" She stood up and did a small bow before laying back down, "You can sleep sound tonight. I'll fight off whatever bad dreams come your way."
I smiled and turned off the light before getting under the covers with her. She giggled and held my hand, "Sleep tight Jey."
I closed my eyes and I don't know how many minutes passed but, I couldn't sleep. I squeezed her hand and her eyes opened "Can't sleep?" She asked softly and I shook my head. She sat up and reached over and turned on the lamp by my bed, "Do you want to tell me what happened?"
I don't want to get her wrapped into this.
She leaned against my shoulder and her intertwined her hand in mine, "You're always helping me when I need you and getting me through things when I fuck up. I could tell something was bothering you over the phone, so let me help you for once Jeyri..."
"It wasn't just a fire." I whispered, I felt like somehow he would be able to hear me if I said it out loud. I gripped her hand tighter and let go, "Someone died there- Well, my boss was murdered."

"Woah, I was not expecting that." She said sitting up, her eyes wide. "Did you tell the police?"
"I... I can't because then he'll know, and if I tell them he'll kill me Hayley." I said, tears coming to my eyes and her brow furrowed in concern. She pulled me into a hug, "Who's he? Who's going to kill you?"
"Giovanni..."
"HUH? The Giovanni?"
I nodded slowly and she ran her hands through her hair, "Well, fuck. I was not expecting that."
"He came to my house before I called you... So he knows where I live already, and my full name. I also don't have a job anymore. Hayley what if... What if he decides he'll get rid of me just because? I mean, he had a gun to my head." My voice faltered and she shook her head, "It's okay, it's okay. We can both just go to the pol-"
"No! No we can't. He practically runs this city! The minute we walk a single foot into that station we're dead. And you... You have to keep this a secret, please. I don't want anything to happen to you because I told you, so promise me. Promise me Hayley you won't tell anyone, or go to the police about this?"
"Okay, okay. I promise." She said sighing, "But, let me find this guy one day and I swear it's on sight for him! He's going to have a tough one for making my girl cry. Just wait-" She paused when I burst out laughing and then pouted, "Whaat?"
"You're threatening the leader of the Mafia?" I shook my head at her, "You've got a death wish but I love you for being willing to go that far for me."
"Yep, he's about to catch these hands, and my foot up his lil Mafia ass." She said scoffing and I laughed again.
I think I slept just alright that night. I couldn't stop laughing with Hayley. It took my mind off of the fear for a while and I ended up falling asleep in due time.
Thank you, Hayley.

A Virtual Invasion
An invasion from another dimension is shut down by an Empire's traitor and the world has a scant few decades to build the strength to resist a multidimensional Empire. How will the world fair when no one even knows its doom is one barred gate away? Fortunately, the traitor has a plan. Maybe with a bit of luck and planning, he can build a force to defend the world without anyone realizing it. Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.

Sara's (not really) Fabulous System Armageddon, Book I: The World Ended at Rush Hour
Planet Earth, Monday, October 7th, 2019. 18:30 * * On a fateful day, during rush hour in eastern North America, Heavens and Hell crumbled and fell from their higher dimension on Earth. It came from "above" but not the same above we regard in our tridimensional Euclidean reasoning. No, it came from "above" as in from a higher dimension. Bits and pieces of those places fell on Earth from all directions, this time in tridimensional Euclidean space. Satellites, the ISS, and space debris all were wiped clean from orbit. Even those that didn't crash with the falling debris were knocked off orbit by the shockwaves. On the ground, power distribution lines were disrupted and most power facilities were left abandoned by their dead staff. Most of these had emergency shutdown routines that engaged in a few days. Some others had a survivor among their staff that followed protocol and activated their SCRAM switches, stopping the power plant. Long-distance communication disappeared the internet along with it. The world was plunged into technological darkness. Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand human beings perished immediately in the pulse of magical energy from the torn spatial boundary. Spirits were rent asunder and vanished, their fate neither salvation nor damnation, only oblivion. The criteria used for this culling was latent magic potential. It didn't discriminate against education, gender, age, or ethnic group. But of the around seven million survivors, most would meet their doom moments later. Those on moving vehicles, like the ones driving on highways suddenly had to contend with high-speed uncontrolled cars and trucks driven by corpses. Trapped in their vehicles and helpless, they became part of the long snake of crushed metal. Very few survived. Those in the air or out in the sea were alone and probably unable to control their rides. Airplanes crashed, and ships kept their course or drifted away, depending on their autopilot. Several ended their own lives in utter despair after seeing their loved ones die in front of them. Another large group would die at the hands of other survivors. Violence and aggression became the norm. Only a few sparse pockets of not-so-sane survivors managed to band together and cooperate for the sake of mutual survival. The sole survivor in a five-over-one apartment building in Georgia, a girl became the keystone to humanity's survival. Sara's fabulous System Apocalypse had just started. She has only one remark. It was anything but fabulous. * * Updates every Wednesday and Sunday.
