The Surrogate

After having some breakfast they went for a walk, he held her hand. Being out in the fresh air and with the woman, he was in love with made him feel like a new man. He no longer felt that ache of loneliness in his heart.

"You're so deep in thought, what are you thinking about?"

He stopped, turned to look at her and placed his hand on the side of her face. "I'm thinking about you. You have given me a reason to love, you make me feel like I am loved."

"Oh, Cole, you are loved by so many. You're friends adore you and you know that your mother loves you. And I love you."

He put his arms around her waist and pulled her close. "I never knew the true meaning of love until you came into my life. I love you with all of my heart and I belong to you in every sense of the word." He then kissed her, showing her just how much he loved her.

They kept walking until they reached the small town and stopped to have a bite to eat. They were unaware that the man sitting at a table not far from them was watching them. He held his phone in his hand and appeared to be looking at something on it.

That night they watched a movie and ate popcorn and when it was time for bed she went and took a shower. She had just stepped out of the shower and let out a scream which had him running to see what was wrong.

He ran to the bathroom and opened the door, his eyes moved down her naked body until she grabbed a towel and wrapped it around her. "I'm so sorry, but I heard you scream."

Her heart was pounding so hard in her chest which got her breasts heaving when she saw the look on his face when his eyes traveled over her nakedness. His eyes were full of lust so she quickly covered up. But she wasn't quick enough, he had already gotten an eye full. "There is a huge spider in the shower. Get rid of it, please. I hate spiders so much, they creep me out."

He looked in the shower and saw the reason for her screams, to him it didn't look that big. But being a gentleman he caught it in a wad of toilet paper and flushed it down the toilet. "There, it's gone now." He felt his member twitch when he saw droplets of water falling between her breasts. All he had to do was grab the towel and pull it off of her, take her in his arms and carry her to the bed.

"Cole."

His thoughts cleared when he heard her say his name. "Yes," he replied, moving his eyes to meet hers.

"Thanks for coming to my rescue but you can leave now so that I can put on my nightgown." She could see how turned on he was when her eyes briefly moved down to his briefs.

He cleared his throat and slowly backed away. "Yes, I'll just wait for you to come to bed." After seeing her totally naked how was he going to be able to control himself? He went and got in bed, laying on his back with his hands behind his head.

She felt nervous about sleeping in the same bed with him, their feelings for each other were getting stronger. "Maybe I should go into the other room tonight?"

He pulled himself up to look at her. "Why?"

"Why do you think?"

"Christy, if it's because of the shower incident I just want you to know I didn't see anything. So come on, get into bed."

"Liar."

A smirk appeared on his face. "Okay, I saw and may I say that you have an amazing body. But I will keep my promise not to try anything until I'm a free man." He pulled the covers back, motioning with his hand for her to get in.

Getting into bed she tried to stay as far from him as she could but he pulled her over and wrapped his arms around her. There was no escape, not that she wanted to so she laid her head on his chest and closed her eyes. It felt so good being in his arms and she couldn't wait until the day they could make love. It was just as hard on her waiting as it was for him.

The next day they packed lunch and took it to the river, they sat down and had a picnic. It was a beautiful warm day, the sky was a lovely blue. She laid down on the blanket and stared up, she would picture the clouds in different shapes.

"What are you looking at?" he asked when he noticed the smile on her face.

"At the clouds, I see animals and other things." She turned her head to look at him. "Try it. Lay down and look up and tell me what you see."

He did what she asked. "I don't see anything but clouds."

"Use your imagination. If you look hard enough you'll see shapes and can picture them. Now, what do you see?"

"I see what appears to be a woman floating by. This is so cool, I never thought to do this before. I usually don't bother looking at the clouds." His head turned to look at her. "Now I'm looking at an angel."

Turning her head she smiled at him. "You're not even looking up."

"No, I'm not, but you are the angel I'm talking about." He moved over so that now he was practically on top of her. "God, you are so beautiful," he said as he stared into her eyes. "I find myself wanting to be with you all the time. When we're not together all I can think about is you and how much I love you."

She reached her hand up and touched his chin. "I do too. I feel my heart beating faster every time you come through the front door." Her eyes stared into his until he lowered his head and kissed her. She felt his one hand moving up her leg and began moaning as his kiss became more passionate and demanding.

He moved his hand up her leg, getting dangerously close to what lay between her legs. Oh, how he wanted to put his fingers inside her, to feel how wet she was and to taste her. Before he lost all control he broke the kiss and moved his hand. "Shall we eat?"

She sat up and pulled her dress down. "Yes, I'm starving."

While they ate he couldn't keep his eyes off of her. "Marry me," he blurred out.

It took her by surprise to hear him proposing. "Cole, you can't ask me to marry you, not when you're already married."

"I know this isn't the right time, but I couldn't help myself. I also know this is not the most romantic way to ask. It's just that knowing we're engaged gives me the strength to go through whatever Joyce might throw my way during the divorce."

"I won't answer you now, it wouldn't feel right."

He turned his head and looked in the opposite direction, feeling deeply hurt. This was the first time he had ever given a woman his heart and it felt like she had crushed it. "Okay."

She grabbed a hold of his chin and turned his head towards her. "Ask me again after the divorce and I promise my answer will be yes."

This made him feel better. "The next time I propose I'll make it special," he said and then kissed her.

Later that day they packed up their belongings and headed back home. They were both wishing they had more time together at the cabin but all good things must come to an end.

As much as they enjoyed being at the cabin they were just as equally glad to be back home. It's like the old saying goes, there's no place like home. She never did go back to her own bedroom, he insisted once again that she stay with him.

By this time June knew that there was something special going on between the two of them. She was glad to finally see him happy and only wished that he had broken up with Joyce a long time ago.

Tuesday night Abe and Gina came over to the house for a visit.

"So did you have a good time at the cabin?" Gina asked.

"Yes it was amazing, and you have a beautiful cabin. I'm just so sorry that you and Abe couldn't make it. So how is your sister doing?"

Gina looked at Christy. "I guess she's okay, why do you ask?"

"Well the breakup."

Gina mentally slapped herself for forgetting the excuse they made up. "Oh yeah, everything is fine now. They managed to work out their problem and are back together," she said, glancing over at Abe.

When the guys went outside with their beer that was when Cole confronted Abe.

"Gina's sister and boyfriend weren't having any problems were they?"

A smirk crossed Abe's face. "Gina did slip up with Christy. No there were no problems, they are happier now than they've ever been. We just wanted the two of you to have some time alone together. Please don't be mad at us."

"I'm not mad, I'm actually glad you did it. We had a great time, we talked, went for walks and played some board games."

"So did you and she get freaky under the covers?"

"For your information no, not that it's any of your business. But to be honest, we came very close. Here comes the girls so let's not continue this conversation. The last thing I want to do is embarrass her and don't worry, I won't tell her you and Gina tricked us."

After having ordered Chinese takeout and they were just about finished their meal there was a knock at the door. Cole went and answered it and came back into the room holding some papers. His face had turned pale and there was a hint of anger in his eyes.

Christy stood up when she saw him. "What's wrong and what are those papers you're looking at?" Normally she wouldn't have been so nosey but she could tell he was very upset.

He lifted his eyes from the paper and looked at her and the others. "It's from Joyce's lawyer, she's counter suing me."

"What do you mean?"

He walked over to her. "She's filed her own divorce papers, asking for a larger settlement and monthly payments after that. She also wants the house and my car and any investments I have. That witch is trying to take everything from me, every last dime and the things I worked so hard for."

Abe was furious. "She must be out of her damn mind. There's no way she can win, not with the way she's treated you right from the beginning of your marriage."

"According to her I've been unfaithful and that is why she wants a divorce."

"That's outrageous, if anyone has been cheating its her," Gina snapped. "Besides, you've never cheated and there's no way she can prove that."

Cole cleared his throat and placed his hands on Christy's shoulders. "I'm not sure how you're going to take this. Joyce is claiming that you and I have been sleeping together from the beginning. She's claiming that I got you pregnant and that it wasn't from the insemination."

She looked back at him and could feel herself trembling beneath his hands that were still placed on her shoulders. "That's a lie, you and I have never slept together."

"I know, but she's saying that we did and that I impregnated you. It's going to be hard proving it, I just want to warn you that this could get very ugly. This will probably go before a judge and you may be asked to testify."

"I don't mind talking to the judge and telling him the truth. I can tell him how she was never home and how much she drank when she was here, not to mention all the things she had me do for her."

"I don't want to put you through all of that, maybe I should just give her everything she wants."

Abe got up and poured him and Cole a shot of whiskey and handed one to him. "You can't give up everything you worked for. It's not only your money and the home that you'll lose. It's also your reputation."

Christy looked at Abe. "What do you mean he could also lose his reputation?"

"Cole is a well-known specialist in his field, people believe and trust him. If it gets out that he's been cheating on his wife with his surrogate it could possibly turn people against him. Their trust in him will be tarnished."

"What am I supposed to do? How am I supposed to prove that Christy and I have not been sleeping together?"

Gina was sitting back listening and finally she put in her two cents worth. "Now you listen to me Cole, you are going to fight that evil witch. As soon as Joyce opens her mouth to the judge he will see right through her and how phony she is. It's going to be her word against yours. You are a well-known surgeon and well respected whereas she is a woman who only spends your money and goes on vacation all the time, without you may I add."

Cole scratched his chin as he gave it some thought. "So you all think that I should fight her on this?" When everyone nodded their heads he took Christy's hand in his. "I'm going to do everything in my power to keep you out of this."

"I love you and we'll go through this together."

"Somehow I knew you'd say that, I just want you to take it easy and not get upset. We have to make sure that this little one is okay."

She placed his hand over her belly. "He's going to be okay, and so will I. The three of us are a team and what one goes through, we all go through."

He didn't care that Abe and Gina were watching as he pulled Christy into his arms and kissed her, telling her how much he loved her.
