"The greater capacity you have to love, the greater your capacity to feel the pain"
-Maddie-
I sat down in front of the tv, slowly shoving a big scoop of ice cream in my mouth. I have been watching the movie titanic five times now. It's weird since I never grew tired watching this movie. "You are so stupid rose."
"You are the one who's stupid!" I say, chucking the remote at the tv screen. This weirdo dares to call his lady stupid? What a jerk. I slump on the sofa, crossing my arms.
Rose looks at him."You jump, I jump, remember?"
I sigh, wrapping the warm blanket around me.
Suddenly, the door opened. I widen my eyes as I turn to look at the door. I immediately grab a frying pan from who knows where and walked near the door. Keep calm Maddie. It's totally not a clown that is planning to murder you any minute now.
I see my friends standing at my doorstep. Their smiley faces popped up from the wide door frame.
"Woah! Easy there!" Leah says, putting her hands up. As if on cue, all their eyes widen as they slowly back away from the door. I laugh. "Sorry." I chuckle, dropping the pan. The loud noise echoes through the room. I giggle nervously as I rub my arm.
"You okay?" Valery asks. I cough, plopping my butt on the couch. "Yep. I am okay." She continues to stare at me with a blank expression. I added another cough and sneezed a bit for dramatic effect.
They give me looks but sat down after me. No one spoke for a while. From my peripheral view, I can see Val and Pella staring at the screen while Leah squints her eyes at me. Probably internally judging me.

"So what's up." Leah asks, her eyes back to being the big brown eyes I know.
"Drama about boys?" Capella asks. She wiggles her eyebrows, nudging my sides lightly. I drop the pan and plopped on the couch. "I am just kinda sick." I take a spoonful of ice cream.
I sigh. They look at me.
"Come on, tell us." Leah urges me. "What?" I ask. "You know the one that's troubling you.." I take a deep breath. "I saw Ren yesterday." I mutter. I clenched my fists, staring at the screen. I slumped down and sank into the comforts of the couch.
"What?" I see Capella's jaw drop. "He's back..." I mutter. "But how?" Capella asks. "Bet you guys hugged." Leah says, nudging me. She does the jazz hands while Valery groans. "Leah, let Maddie explain." She scolds Leah. "Sorry..."
I look down. Bits of yesterday started flowing through my mind. Some of the words that were still hard for me to accept plays in my head once again. "Quite the opposite." I mutter. I felt hot tears prick my eyes. They look at me concerned.
"He's engaged." I choked out. I couldn't stop the tears that flowed down my cheeks. It just hurts so much. I've waited for years for him to come back, not once sparing a glance to any other guy who shows interest in me and he comes back with a fiancé.
"There there." I hear Valery says as she hugs me. Leah and Capella pat my back as I sob. While I cried, I told them everything that happened.
From the beginning till the end. The part where we bumped into each other in the coffee shop. The part where he was with Amy. Finally, the part where he announced Amy as his fiancée.

"So you and Shawn are kinda a thing?" Leah asks. "No." I answer immediately, my cheeks heating up. I shake my head. "Never!" I exclaim. "If you say so.." Capella shrugs.
We stare at the tv as silence fills the air.
"Wanna go to the movies?" I ask, holding up four tickets. I mean it'll be a waste if we don't use it right? "But you said you weren't feeling well. "Valery replies."I am feeling better now!" I say as I stand up. "Are you sure?" Valery asks. "Yeah."
We all agreed to go to the movies.
I quickly changed into an oversized sweater with leggings underneath. I patted my cheeks softly and encouraged myself to be strong. We go inside the movie theater. Posters of various movies were on the walls. I look at the coupons. Free tickets to any movie and free snacks.
We go in movie theater one, each of us holding a large bag of popcorn and drinks. I sat next to Leah on the corner.
"I am so excited! I heard this movie is very nice!" Leah squeals, stuffing popcorn in her mouth. I laugh at her quietly.
Soon, the lights were off and the movie was about to begin. I switch my gaze to the large screen as I shove a handful of popcorn in my mouth.
Someone sat down next to me.
I turn to see a familiar face. The smile of my face quickly fades and I froze. Ren's eyes meet mine.
"Miss Maddie?"

Sessions
A coming-of-rage urban fantasy novella centering on the mental health journey of Arthur Silva. It follows his struggles with self-worth, and his interpersonal relationships between his family, friends, coworkers and partners. This novella is in it's first draft so if it's a bit rough around the edges that's why. I just want to get some feedback on it as well as what's working. Each chapter can be very stylistically different from each other as a means of separating the different months that each chapter takes place to better put the reader into the headspace of Arthur.
