《A Traveller's Journey; A litRPG Tale. (part 1 complete.)》Chapter 2: The New World

'What is going on?'

Unlike the typical MMO's, Almost Heaven was sensitive. Since most were new to the VR world it was necessary to get them to understand how it worked. So beginning villages were added. These were in reality outside the actual world of Almost Heaven.

Please note:

You are in Village 212

Try out different weapon styles and armour styles to suit your new life.

You will be able to leave the village after finishing the 'stepping out' LVL 10 quest.

Permanent job and race selections will be provided after leaving the beginner village.

Take care

'That seems ok. I can try out a few weapons and stuff'.

The beginner village was busting with energy. Most were just running around excited. The VR helmet had a build-in respiratory system to provide better air circulation. This helped to pump more oxygen into the cabins. It also helped to keep people more active.

Peter hovered at the same space for a few minutes before deciding on what to do. Since there was nothing else but a few tattered clothes available in the inventory, all one could do was look for some new weapons to pick up.

"Excuse me, where do I get a weapon?" Peter asked an elderly gentleman NPC.

"You can get one at the merchant shop. It's better to go to the training hall before buying one. They have all the basic ones and you can pick one that's most comfortable to you".

The guy was more helpful than expected.

After the old man pointed the way out Peter headed for the training ground. The NPC trainer in the area was very helpful.

'It's like a real person'. Peter thought.

As he checked out the different swords available on the rack, he noticed that most of them had blunted blades.

'Guess it is only useful for training.'

Picking one sword that felt good in his hand, Peter went to hit the training dummies. The sword moved pretty easy. It was a lot lighter than he expected.

A crescent swipe.

Horizontal stab and swipe.

Vertical slash.

Slash.

And the dummy had no hp left.

Seeing Peter finish off the dummy, the training instructor moved to his side.

"Kid you are quite talented with a sword. It is a good weapon for all situations you could come across. Go for it."

"Thanks. I don't know how to use anything else anyways."

"You can try other stuff like daggers or staffs but they are a lot harder to train at. I'd say keep with sword till you get a bit more strength at least."

"Ok. Where do I get a good sword then?"

"There aren't any good ones in the area but you can get one at the nearest shop". He hesitated for a few seconds.

"You can get better weapons once you get a new job".

Saying thanks to the NPC trainer he went looking for a new sword.

There were only three shops and one sold potions, other weapons, and the last one had armour. Apart from that a mini-quest area, a healing temple and a village office were the only places left inside the village walls. All these places were left wide apart to give a comfortable space to players.

Approving the look of the place Peter went inside the only weapon shop at the place. The shop owner was a lady and her smile was pleasant to look at.

"Welcome customer, what can I do for you?"

"Sword. Anything cheaper would do."

"Did you check the training ground out? It's better to find what's suitable for you before you buy a personal one."

"Thanks. Yes, I just left the place."

"Ok. Good. We only sell one of each type and they all come with the same stats. A common sword will cost you 50 copper."

"Thanks again."

After paying for the sword Peter went to look at the quest area.

The front of the quest area was filled with people. Once in a few feet radius, a semi-transparent interface appeared. This was to reduce the overcrowding in the area.

Quest Board

1. Help cull the growing weed on the farm.

People: 1-2

Location: backyard farm

Location: western forest

Reward: 10 silver, 800 experience.

3. Collect chicken eggs for the village.

People: 1

Location: chicken coop

Reward: 2 silver, 100 experience.

Peter went forward and picked the two quests he could do on his own. The wolf quest required a party and he wasn't in one.

He slowly moved towards the coop to start collecting the eggs.

Active Quest

1. Collect chicken eggs from the coop.

Collect 50 chicken eggs and deliver them to the village office.

Collected (0/50)

2. Cut the weeds

Weeds destroyed (0/50)

Passive Quest

The chicken coop was right next to the village farm. Within a few minutes, all 50 eggs were collected. To complete the quest the eggs had to be turned in at the village office. Once he collected all eggs, he went to the farm to cut the weed.

Unlike egg collection, the weed was much easier. There was an observer at the farm and all you had to do was cut the weeds and go talk to him. As soon as Peter finished with the weed he went to the observer and received his quest reward.

Quest complete.

50/50 weeds destroyed.2 silver and 100 experience rewarded.

A few minutes and Peter received 2 silver.

Almost Heaven has a currency that can be exchanged for real money but according to the website, only gold can be exchanged.

Peter was already excited as a few minutes had rewarded with a few Bucks. At this rate, the rewards were much more favourable.

After turning in the egg quest Peter got a level raise and reached LVL 2.

Soon he reached the opening ahead of the western forest. There were some players killing rabbits. With the newly received sword, Peter rushed forward to finish his quest.

Killed one rabbit LVL 1. 7 experience gained

The notifications kept coming in the background.

After a few more kills a new notification popped up.

You have levelled up.

Soon, he finished his quest and all he had to do was return the meat to the butcher.

After adding the remaining points to strength, he went into the woods looking for the healer.

It was easy to find her as there was not much of an overgrowth. After a few minutes of walking, he spotted a woman crying under a tree. It appeared that she was injured.

"Hi, I'm Vision. I'm looking for Grace. Do you need any help?" From the attire of the women, Peter had already guessed she was the one he was looking for.

"Grace, yes I'm Grace. Thanks for coming. I'm hurt. I can't move around. Please find me some aura herb."

New quest received.

Grace pointed to a bunch of herbs around her. They were so close to her that she could just extend her hand and grab them.

'Can't you just grab it on your own?'

He proceeded to grab them one by one and then 'delivered them' to her.

With a smile, Grace received the herbs and proceeded to pinch them and poured the nectar on her legs.

Congratulations, you completed a quest.

Affinity with Grace reached 5. Friendly.

Promptly Grace got up with a smile and moved towards the forest path.

Quest complete. Find the missing healer.

You received 10 silver and 400 experience.

You have levelled up.

Peter parted ways with Grace at the village gate and moved towards the butchers stand.

With nothing much to do, he went back to the quest board. There was no quest on the board.

'Someone took the wolf quest'.

Active Quests

1. Meet with Grace

Meet Grace at the village office.

A new quest was added to the list. Peter went looking for Grace at the Office.

She was at the back treating two kids. When she saw Peter her eyes were brighter than usual.

With a smile, she looked towards Peter dismissing the two kids in front of her.

"Hi, you came. I wanted someone to go get a few more herbs. See we are almost out of our stock."

Quest complete. Meet with Grace.

Reward received

Affinity with Grace+5, Friendly.

Quest received.

Get some aura herbs.

The rewards were pretty good and he had nothing much to do. Soon he was back in front of the clearing. After a few minutes, he obtained the required 50 herbs and went back to give them to Grace.

"You are so fast. Maybe look for the blacksmith. I heard she was looking for a few things as well. Maybe you could help her as well."

'To the blacksmith then'.

Peter slowly moved towards the smith at the back of the village office.

The blacksmith had an open house and there weren't much else around.

A buffed-up young lady was sitting outside the smithy.

"Hi, Grace said you were looking for help?"

"Yeah, I need someone to get me some iron ore from the mine. I'm almost out of stock."

You received a new quest.

Accept the quest?

"Sure, but I don't know how to get ore. Do you have a pickaxe I could use?"

You accepted the quest

"Yes, you can take mine. Just bring it back before it breaks."

You received a mining pick, beginner.

Quest added to the log.

Soon, he was running towards the backyard mine looking for iron ores.

The mine yard was very small and it was an instance dungeon. It contained many monsters as well as a few NPC miners. The beginner village mine did not contain any useful material.

You gathered a useful ore

You gathered a useful ore

You gathered a useful ore

Messages kept popping up and soon...

You have gathered enough material.

With a huge amount of useful ore, Peter came back to the smithy.

The young buffed up lady was so happy she started jumping around.

"Thank you so much! Now I don't have to worry about going out mining."

For some reason, the village didn't have any gathering professionals.

With the rewards obtained from the smith's quest, Peter went back to look at the quest board again.
