《Autumn Winds and Crimson Waters》From a prompt

You knew this would happen, an insistent voice had been drumming it in your head all day. You knew this would happen, but you came here anyway.
Now, you crouch stock still in the dark building, hiding from the flashlight slowly turning in search of prey. You almost feel the shadows thickening around you, every step of the other man brings the tension closer to breaking point. He is strong. He is hunting. You are hiding.
You knew this would happen, the preparations were all for naught. You came here anyway, thinking it could somehow work. You suddenly scramble away as his flashlight suddenly turns around, falling too close, way too close, to you.
But the squeaks of your footsteps are as loud as firecrackers in the silent room…
He jerks up at the sudden noise, an instinctive movement borne of training and experience. You duck behind the row of clothes, the gaps betweeb gaudy fabrics offering a small window of view. He is well built, alert, undoubtedly dangerous. The moonlight shines through the only window and lands upon gleaming metal, a gun loaded with a bullet specifically for you.
The phone lines have been cut - you're sure of that. The area is deserted, no one would hear screams. Help is not coming, and the body would only be discovered months from now.
In this small world of shadow and silence, it can only be you against him. You against a killer, with blood on his mind.
He is walking in your direction now, not even bothering to conceal the step and fall of his footsteps. You move away slowly, crawling to minimize noise, but he is closing in on you like he can hear the sound of your panicked heartbeats. It is silent save for his footsteps and heavy breathing - any whimper or cry will instantly give you away.

His footsteps are slow. His breathing steady. His gait confident.
Too confident.
The needle in your hand is laced with poison. A mere gram is enough to paralyse. You'd know this - after all, you made this. He would feel nothing but the slightest prick of, oh, perhaps an insect?
And then it would all be too late.
He looked nothing like the strong hunter from before, as his legs locked and he panicked, realising too late what was happening. By this point, he has already collapsed, thick muscled limbs going stiff as he gasped for air like a child drowning in a bathtub.
The poison worked fast, in one minute it would reach the lungs breathing would stop. He found it harder, harder, harder to breathe, and as his face turned redder and redder he gaped up and found you standing there, like the angel of death. His eyes widened comically as the second needle moved closer, closer, closer to his eye, the devilish gleam of acid shining in moonlight would be the last thing he'd see as pain and lack of oxygen makes him black out.
The poison was quick and efficient, but it needed one last push.
You knew this would happen, you knew you could have died, but you came here anyway for that last look in his eyes.
Jonathan Farley was a good military officer, but in the end, he is only one of many
in your slowly increasing tally.

The Adventures of Alan
What happens when a university professor somehow ends up in another world, where magic bends the laws of nature? Alan is, albeit unwillingly, about to find out. As a professor of physics, he has a decent understanding of how the world works, or so he likes to think. Armed only with his knowledge, Alan is thrown into a world very different from his own. In his new reality, he will meet both friends and foe, he will seek knowledge, he will build power, and perhaps he will even find love again? Follow Alan through his adventures, and find out for yourselves how he deals with the challenges thrown at him by a new world, while struggling with the issues brought with him from his old one. * Author’s note: A fair warning. This is the first time I’ve published anything, and basically the first time I’ve written anything more than mandatory school-stuff. The story will probably have inconsistencies, grammatical errors (not my native tongue, though that excuse is getting old), and potentially confusing (missing?) plot. I will naturally do my best to write something worth reading, but my main goal in writing this story is to have fun and explore the limits of my own creativity. My hope in publishing it here, is that I’ll reach someone who enjoy the story, and can push me forward towards writing more, as it is difficult at times to find the motivation to write just for myself. Additionally, I can’t really promise to have regular updates, as I have a full-time job that often likes to take the ‘full-time’ part literally, and a sporadic social life that occasionally surprises me (happy surprises mostly, so I shouldn’t complain). I’ll aim for once a week to start with, and take it from there. Happy reading! Cover photo by Jeff Hire (/photographer/gun4hire-58415), from https://freeimages.com/.

Contact First
2039 - Earth A narrow beam energy signal appeared aimed squarely at earth from the TRAPPIST system. The communication consisted of a layered set of repeating data over several thousand wavelengths. Over the next few months scientists discovered that the lower wavelengths carried an encoded numerical language which could then be used to interpret the more complicated messages carried on the higher wavelengths. After half a year of painstaking work the signal was fully decoded. It described a small satellite launched along a precise trajectory towards the fourth planet of our solar system. Included was a package of advanced research that humanity would need to have ready in order to receive the satellite and decelerate it safely. The alien data provided the kick that humanity needed to turn from petty squabbling and unite to explore the final frontier. Major government and corporate leaders worked together to create the framework for the United Federation of Sol. UFS spaceports went from scaffolding to daily launches in every major city around the globe. Ships floated like dandelion seeds, spreading on solar wind to grow into colonies. 2397 - Mars orbit, Egeria Station The command center was a hive of activity as checks were conducted and systems initialized. Scientists flitted by like mayflies as communicators beeped and holoscreens spat out green tinted readouts. Nervous energy was thick in the air as everyone anticipated the culmination of over three hundred years of work. Massive fusion reactors under the planet's surface thrummed with barely restrained power as energy fed into a gleaming metallic maze criss crossing the planet. Metal fingers reached up, overshadowing the mighty olympus mons and trying to grab the stars. All over the solar system, people quickly turned to look as gigantic energy lances shot from the dusty fourth planet. Two years later. The same people that clapped loudly at the successful activation of project Hermes now wait with baited breath. A silver capsule trailing bright photonic sails is captured by a net of grav beams and guided with care bordering on reverence into the station. Holoscreens across the headquarters project an image of the sleek craft settling in the bay. Data connections are established and the holoscreens blink to white. Slowly an image forms on the screen. Across the headquarters people stare in wonder as a wholly alien face stares back. "Contact established. Welcome to the universe."

Murderously Disturbed
This collection chronicles the horrific contents of my brain in poetic form. This is not for the faint of heart. It contains terrifying moments of murder, suicide, mayhem, rituals, hauntings, and nightmares in various poetic forms from ballads to sonnets and many more. Most of these pieces are oneshot tales, but the "Haunted Blades" ballad sequence is marked with an asterisk (*) throughout the collection to denote an interconnected series of poems.
