Ah, shit.
That was the only thought that came to Shiro once she realised that the monster was kind of an idiot. A destructive idiot.
The ship, while somehow still in one piece, was sent away by the idiot’s many, many arms/legs. The idiot was a monster, as expected. Even the accidental hit turned out to be a force to be reckoned with.
Many of the ship’s passengers were thrown off board, and all they could do was try to stay afloat as they wait for the waves to calm down.
“Quick, get back to the ship before it comes back!” The captain of the ship quickly issued an order. While the terrifying sea monster may have let them off for some reason, it still did not negate the fact that danger still lurked around the corner. “Who knows, maybe the monster was scared away by an even more terrifying monster,” the captain added.
While the Skull Brigade members were busy helping one another get back on the ship, a certain someone, who did not know how to swim, was currently sinking to the bottom of the ocean.
“Yooo-ta!” Shiro, who was separated from him due to the idiot monster’s random tentacle attack, ran around the ship, searching for the stupidly weak mortal boy.
Ah, shit!
Shiro felt like cursing one more time.
Because she had taken off the slave collar, thus breaking their master-slave contract, she was unable to detect his presence at all. As expected, she should have just listened to Mr. Sketchy Merchant and not take the collar off. ‘So problematic, ugh!’ Shiro complained inwardly.
Meanwhile, Ryouta, who was simply floating in the ocean, started to emit a bright light.
“!” Shiro, who noticed it, immediately dived into the sea.
There he is! Geez!

As Shiro closed their distance, she noticed that the boy was unconscious. Her hand reached out towards him, briefly touching his face. Just one touch was enough for her to determine his condition. Clearly, he had too much seawater to drink, and the ocean’s pressure was simply too strong for him to swim back up to the surface by himself.
Seeing the crowding water and sea spirits, she called out to them, “can you all do me a favour and bring this one up?”
A cacophony of ‘yes~’ and ‘okay~’ rang into her mind. Although she could use her own powers to save him, it would jeopardise her position as an ‘Outsider’, and would cause the Laws of the World to act against her faster than she would like.
Up until now, the only reason she was able to live peacefully was because she barely used one percent of her powers in the current world.
The spirits conjured a tornado of water to carry Ryouta up to the surface.
Shiro immediately came up behind him, making sure to squeeze every drop of seawater out of his lungs.
“!!!” Ryouta’s temperature began to drop. Shiro knew things were not good.
Fine, it seems like Shiro has no choice but to speed up his Awakening, else he’ll die.
All of Shiro’s efforts would be wasted if this one dies.
“Muuu!”
With puffed cheeks, Shiro resolutely tore her arm, creating a bloody gash. Immediately, she shoved the bleeding arm straight to Ryouta’s mouth, making sure he drank every last drop of the precious liquid before the wound closes up.
Suddenly, the bright light he emitted became even more blinding.
Congratulations, you have levelled up.

The Path of Darkness
Necromancer. That word used to be feared throughout the continent, perhaps the world. Now barely anybody knows what it means. The necromancers of old were powerful, cunning, and insidious. Masters of death, they held the power to sway the fate of nations. The tales of their exploits are all but legends and myths now, stories from a time long forgotten. There is a war brewing, between the two great nations of Janaro and Klavan. Caught in the middle and framed for treason, a historian will exercise magic long lost in order to carve his mark on the world.

One might say that to anger forces beyond the ken of fragile breakable mortals is a bad idea, others might say that meddling in dark forces with little chance of gain is also a bad idea, they would both be right by on all counts but they forget to mention also how incredibly stupid combining both of those things are. Stupid people don’t last so long on the mystic side of things, normal folks who wander over to the other side have a tendency to do one of two things, either A. figure out that the best thing to do is keep their head down and not draw attention from any entity that refers to humanity as “you mortals” , or B. something horrifying happens to them. As you may have guessed I fell into the second category, mostly because I thought there was a third option. See I though there must be an option C, an option where I got to end up not as some shitty back ally wizard cowering at the chance of discovery, praying that one of my wards or spells wouldn’t be noticed by something that goes bump in the night. No I would be the one who rose above all that. I would never have to be afraid. Well I made a good attempt at it that’s for damn sure, but unfortunately for me it turns out there is not an option C. At least not for me…

8 116Return of Chaos
For the longest time, it was thought that the citizens of Earth were the only denizens of the galaxy incapable of developing superhuman abilities — but recent events have flipped that assumption on its head. Between Austin Travis, Mote Emerson, Pierce Bradley, and their friends, Earth is now host to 12 Chaotics… as well as a myriad of mysteries surrounding them. From a new nemesis in the form of a clone, to connections to ancient technology from a long-lost civilization, to the ability to summon powerful legendary weapons, these 12 Chaotics have unknowingly become entangled in something larger than any of them have ever imagined. As if in response to these discoveries, the sinister machinations of galactic evil are churning. The metallic infection, a calamitous nanotechnology “disease” thought to have been vanquished 20 years ago, is slowly returning — and alongside it, a number of conflicts thought to be long past. While they only seek to better grasp their own abilities, Earth’s Chaotics will soon find themselves in the crossfire of returning threats and old heroes. These superpowered Earthians may not have chosen this path through life, but it will still be up to them to determine if history remembers them — to determine if history remembers the saga of the Keys. Return of Chaos is a direct sequel to Chosen Chaos, which begins the Key Saga novel series. Be sure to read Chosen Chaos first, to understand the plot and the characters thus far! Additionally, the Key Saga as a whole takes place 20 years after Rise. You will not need to read Rise to understand the events of Return of Chaos, however the latter will spoil many of the events that occurred in Rise, due to the simple chronology of taking place later in the timeline.
