Chapter 27
I've been traveling for a few days now and I'm now resting at small village. There has been a disease spreading among the villages that has killed many people. I decided to visit the sick and see if I could heal them.
I entered the temporary hospital and found a healer.
Willow:"Hello I'm from the capitol I'd like to take a look at the sick."
Healer:"I wouldn't recommend it. Containing the disease is the best we can do so if you get sick you'll die."
Willow:"I'll be fine. I might be able to help."
Healer:"Fine it's not like I can say no to someone the capitol sent."
I entered the quarantined room and went up to a sick kid near me. It was a little boy who had a fever and chills with blackened fingers and dried blood under his nose. I was a surprised that I had found the real Black Death also known as the bubonic plague. I knew this boy could die very soon so I went right to work.
I injected mana into him and drove it towards the lymph nodes until I found the Yersinia pestis and destroyed it. I used more mana to repair all the damage that was already done to the body.
I treated all of the sick and spread mana around the village killing all rats. I couldn't kill all animals so I targeted the fleas next then purified the air. It took a lot of concentration to do all this, but I finished in a day.
The people were all thanking me and I told them to be wary of animals around here. Some could still be carrying the plague. I spent another day there to watch over them and create some antibiotics that I thought would help if someone got sick again.
I found quite a few villages like that and spent time helping them. I ended up getting another nickname that seemed to spread faster than the plague. The Black Saint since I was still walking around in all black clothes and armor.
****************Ruby POV****************
It took me a while to reach the town where I'm suppose to meet the Black Death. I started hearing rumors of a saint going around healing villages that had gotten sick. I wondered if the saint could be Falon.
It sounded like something he might do. I wanted to meet him so I asked around and found out he was headed here. I had to report to the local guards so that they would inform me of Black Deaths arrival.

It was finally time to meet Black Death and I was headed to a tavern where we would meet. I walked inside and sat at the back observing the people around me.
It was easy to guess who Black Death was as soon as he walked in. At first I thought he was an elf, but he had a tail so I wasn't sure. His finger nails looked longer and sharper than an elfs so I assumed he might be half elf and wolf.
He turned his head towards me and just looked into my eyes for a few seconds before coming over.
Willow:"I believe your the human who is going to guide me."
Ruby:"Yes my name is Ruby."
Willow:"You probably know me as Black Death, but my real name is Willow."
Ruby:"I don't think that name fits you. You should stick with Black Death."
Willow:"I'd prefer Black Saint over Black Death."
Ruby:"Saint? Are you the saint that's been going around healing villages?"
I was starting to feel depressed since I thought the saint might be Falon, but this guy doesn't even know who I am.
Willow:"Yes while I was traveling here I found many villages that were sick so I helped."
Ruby:"That's very nice for a man known as Black Death."
Willow:"I wanted my enemies to fear me, but that doesn't mean I'm heartless."
Ruby:"I guess I don't have any reason to waste more time here so when would you like to leave."
Willow:"As soon as possible."
Ruby:"Then is tomorrow fine."
Willow:"Sure."
I led him back to the inn I was staying at and he got a room there too. We planned to set off early so we both went to sleep.
***************Tessa POV****************
Cal and Jeanette were frequently sent on scouting missions. Fraya couldn't go because she wasn't as fast or stealthy as them and if they ended up in a fight her weapons are too loud.
Cal was sent to scout towards the outer walls of Gart in order to find out their defensive plan. Jeanette was sent to scout the rear to check if the enemy had soldiers that circled around us to attack from behind.
Fraya:"It looks like we'll win this war easily."
Tessa:"We shouldn't celebrate just yet. There's no telling what the enemy may have up their sleeve."
Fraya:"Whatever he has won't be a match for us."
Tessa:"I hope so."
Fraya:"Once this wars over the elves influence will rise and we can search other kingdoms for Falon."

Tessa:"It could be a very long time before he's reborn. I don't really know the rules of his reincarnation so all we can do is wait."
Fraya:"I'll wait for as long as it takes, but that doesn't mean I won't search for him too."
Tessa:"We'll come up with a plan after this war is over. How are you doing with all these battles."
Fraya:"I feel really good. I never thought I would be able to fight alongside my friends and family, but Falon gave me the means to fight. I can never thank him enough for giving strength to the weak me."
A guard ran in interrupting our talk.
Guard:"Jeanette has returned. The enemy has been spotted."
Tessa:"Fraya go join the men that were sent to intercept the enemy I'll join Lamruil and the other generals."
Fraya:"Yes!"
We left the tent and went in different directions.
***************Willow POV***************
The girl who came to be my guide was very pretty. I felt something the first time I looked in her eyes, but I shrugged it off. I think she's the first girl I've ever felt drawn to that wasn't a blonde.
I wondered if this could be love at first sight. I wasn't sure what I was feeling, but I liked being around her. Her name matches her hair which I thought was interesting. We had created a camp a little outside of a village.
Willow:"So why did the elves send a human to be my guide."
Ruby:"They wanted someone strong that they could trust to be your guide."
Willow:"How strong are you?"
Ruby:"I'm stronger than most people."
Willow:"What about family? Have any?"
Ruby:"I have my parents, but I haven't seen them in a while. I live with some of my friends who I consider sisters."
Willow:"What about a boyfriend or husband?"
Ruby:"I don't have anyone like that and why are you asking?"
Willow:"No reason just trying to make conversation."
Ruby:"Have you ever heard the name Falon?"
Willow:"No is he the guy you like?"
Ruby:"He's with one of my friends, but disappeared a while ago so were looking for him."
Willow:"You mentioned him when I asked about a boyfriend so I think you do like him."
Ruby:"You really nosy aren't you."
Willow:"When a person interests me."
Ruby:"Well.........I do like him, but he loves my friend so there's no chance of anything happening."
Willow:"Why not a harem? It's pretty common in Uuxur."
Ruby:"I'm.........afraid."
Willow:"Of what?"
Ruby:"What might happen to us if we tried that."
Willow:"It works fine for my master."
Ruby:"Master?"
Willow:"Oh yeah technically I'm a slave see."
I pulled the collar down on my shirt to reveal a slave collar.
Willow:"It was a cheap one that he used so all it does is kill me if I try to attack him or he sets it off himself."
Ruby:"I didn't know you were a slave."
Willow:"It's fine I don't have any complaints. My mother was one of his slaves too, but she was raped by a beastman and I was born."
Ruby:"I'm sorry to hear that."
Willow:"My mother never treated me like I was the son of a rapist so I've had a pretty happy life. I think you should confess to him the next time you meet. You never know what might happen to you."
Ruby:"I'll think about it. I'm going to sleep."
Ruby pulled out a blanket from her bag and threw it over herself. I decide to go to sleep too.
*****************Jack POV****************
I had more fun with Violet today. I've come to really enjoy the time I spend with her, but I have to keep a healer with her at all times. She's tried multiple times to kill herself and I try to console her afterwards.
I don't want her to get lonely so I let the guards visit her sometimes. They know not to kill her so I can rest easy knowing she won't have to be alone when I can't come for a visit. She's actually become really popular with the Orc guards.
I was a little worried at first when Violet got pregnant, but luckily I was able to cut it out of her. It's a good thing healing magic exists in this world. I brought Violets family to work in the castle as maids and butlers. The mother is pretty popular among the younger guards which is understandable since she is a mature beauty.
I had her father and two older brothers help me out with taking care of Violet. They were reluctant at first, but I convinced them after a while. They really seem to enjoy playing with her now. I hope she's grateful that I let her reunite with her family.
I hate having to spend time away from Violet, but I am in the middle of a war here. I let the enemy advance far into my territory so that I could completely crush them when I felt like it. I'm looking forward to when they start there attack on the outer walls of Gart.
I received news that Falons women where in the army that's headed here so I've had a much happier mood these last few days. I will finally get my hands on those crystals and I'll live forever. I can't wait for the big reunion.Back to Main Page

Toothpick
“Hello! My humble audience! I, the Bard of the North, am going to tell you a tale. Nothing new, nothing old. A story of a hero, some may say, others a poor boy who was hated by the world.” The storyteller paused as he waited, right timing was everything when telling a story. Pacing… Too slow and the audience became bored then left without tossing even the smallest of coins. If he spoke too fast and rushed the story. It would leave the audience confused and having no reason to be impressed. So like any good storyteller, the Bard has to do a balancing act of sorts. Not too slow, not too fast. Just perfectly in the middle. “In a shattered country in the south, a novice princeling has the ambition to mend a torn tapestry that is his birthplace. Struggling to fend off those who would usurp the throne in an unending civil war spanning centuries. A mercenary that left only death in his wake, unable to stave off the monotony and peace of life. He looks back at the path laden with bodies, wondering if it was all worth it. Wandering souls summoned by a madman, travel away from a wasteland in a foreign land, the first alone, the others as companions. A deity, ancient in her years, waiting to be freed from a duty she no longer enjoys. For all these people and their stories, none are the hero of this tale. No, the hero is not grand, not wise, not ready.. he was punished for nothing of his doing, who was an outcast that was unloved by many, including his father.” This was always the big reveal novices use to jump off into their story. He did not start here, instead, like any good fishermen, he set the bait and waited until the fish bit before pulling. As he saw the audience's eyes focus, he then started the backstory. The harness, that stopped the listeners from having metaphorical whiplash. The foreshadowing. “But that is not where the story starts. No, not even the hero's birth. Where the story begins, is the boredom of the deity, a deity many know of. She who hunts for the impossible, the guide for those who have lost the path, the Huntress of Mallon--” A small pause, a short breath. “--All old names for a single powerful being that has roamed the grounds of this continent longer than any line of kings or queens, lords or ladies. A being of worship for many an individual…” One last breath. And he began singing the first verse.
