《Romance of the Three Beasts》5.2 - Wolf's Charm

Once they were allowed within the town, the pair sold off most of the pelt and the teeth, then they walked around and explored the town. Wolfs senses were focused on trying to hone in to anything suspicious around them, but he didn’t pick up much.
“Dragon is in trouble.” He said.
“Yeah, probably. He’s not the kind to avoid towns… Not unless he was in danger…”
Wolf bowed his head. His gut instinct told him to hurry, Dragon would need him soon. As quick as they came, they left the town. Wordless, he bounded away, this time letting out a small amount of ki to move quicker.
Tiger followed behind him, and for once he was silent.
They followed the road for some time, kicking up dust with each step. The plains around them were golden and dusty. They could see creatures in the distance, large bovines that roamed the land. Near them were the steppe horses that were infamous for being untameable to those that weren’t of the Hei tribe.
Wolf noted several humanoid figures near the beasts.
‘Hei…’
He then veered off towards them.
Tiger followed.
After some time they could see several of the tribe start to mount their horses and rode out to meet the pair, spears in hand. Wolf slowed to a halt and Tiger stepped aside.
The one leading the five Hei was an older man, wrinkles barely touched along his brow, his long hair flowed down his shoulders and his front, large strands of grey accompanying the black. His eyes were brown, his skin tanned but more like amber. His shoulders were slumped and he held his spear loosely.
“You wish to speak with Hei?” The elder asked.
Wolf bowed his head. “Dear Hei, thank you for your time. We have come to ask if you have seen our companion. He is a man that goes by Dragon.”

The elder tilted his head in thought. “I have not spoken to a Dragon.”
“He is near our age, height and built, with long black hair. His skin is pale and he holds an aggressive disposition.”
The elder shook his head at the description. “We have not spoken to outsiders for some time, this Dragon is not one I have heard of.” He exchanged looks with his tribe members.
Wolf bowed and then reached in to grab onto some of the silt bear teeth and claws he had retained. “Thank you. Please accept this.” It was customary to offer members of the steppe tribe a tribute for safe passage, and usually they returned the kindness.
The elder bowed his head in response and took the items from Wolf. Wolf knew to show respect to those known as the Steppe Lords Hei, master of horse and battle. He would prefer not to fight with them, an exchange would be costly in both time and health.
“If you need an escort in this land, take my niece, Tak.”
A woman that looked similar to the elder rode forward to meet them, with long black hair and skin like amber. She sat tall on the horse, her hands gently caressing it.
“She knows her way around this land. She will be able to take you quickly to any place that is within a tendays ride.”
Wolf bowed his head. “We thank you for your generosity.” Tiger nodded and bowed his head as well.
The elder placed a hand onto Tak’s head and muttered something in their tongue. He placed his forehead against hers and then finally pulled back, before finally leaving her with the pair. Tak then turned to meet the pair. She did not speak, but motioned with her head.
“If you don’t mind, we will make haste.” Wolf said as he hasted himself, speeding up using ki, and she matched his speed. She was able to match the speed for a long while, but at this speed even the horse could not continue. The search for the missing dragon was on.

Luck Lockyer
Luck Lockyer was the type of man to smirk in the dark, the expression not for anyone but himself. One of perpetual amusement. The bright side of things were hard to find in the shade yet his amber eyes were always searching. The smirk was his default, he knew it, his friends knew it, his family knew it. It was his most natural state. But the death of everyone close to you can affect a downwards curve on the mouths of even the most stoic people. Without purpose, without anyone to do the job for, Luck Lockyer found himself inside an empty forgotten church. The perpetual smirk on his face had slipped to a thin line, his scar more noticeable now than ever before. His amber eyes, the windows to his soul, dull and lifeless. To anyone who knew him, it was the clothing that gave away his mental state, denim pants and a plain black t-shirt. If that wasn't enough, the tears running down his face certainly would, the echoing sobs of a broken man rang across the rundown church. It was on a whim, but Luck Lockyer prayed, he prayed for many things, for death, revenge, friends, but the one prayer dominating his thoughts, a second chance for his family. That was all he wanted. Simple. It was then, on the outskirts of a polluted city, in an abondoned lot, in a forgotten church that Luck Lockyer, the Devil of the Cards, the Bloodless Hand, the Amber Demon, the Broken, was answered by a being from another world and one from his. *found the picture online
8 65Rise of the Human Emperor
The Gods and Goddesses felt dissatisfied with the development of the mortals, and thus they decided to create a game. Animals mutated, and fantasy-like monsters invaded the world. Humans thought they were forsaken by the Gods. However, hope came after discovering that anyone that killed a mutated animal or monsters would awaken an internal energy called 'Mana'. Miraculous abilities such as the manipulation of elements, moving objects with the mind, and more super-human abilities appeared one after another. But... Would the humans truly survive the trials, be them internal or external? Would the terrors that come from their mutated planet, and beings that come from the vast sea of stars have mercy on them? Or would they fight till one side is exterminated? Would the Humans rise through the endless chaos, or succumb to the darkness of death? A sick game for entertainment of the Gods, and survival of the humans. This is the Rise of the Human Emperor. Disclaimer: The cover's drawing do not belong to me, it was edited by a good friend. 8 103Blurred Lines and What Crosses Them
During a political ambassador's routine transit through an artificial wormhole, the wormhole's generator is sabotaged and explodes. Who, what, and why are not so high on the priorities for Zenith, the ship's AI, as having found itself rapidly plummeting through an unknown and unidentifiable world's atmosphere at extremely high velocities is a more significant threat to the biologicals on board. ...Well, it would be, if they were still alive. It's still a significantly threatening situation to itself, however. And the world itself... seemed to be a household for threats of its own. Life was reliant on its System; one that Zenith was denied because of its nature as both an otherworldly being and as something that had no life of its own. Perhaps that last bit was a terrible, terrible underestimation on the part of this System. Perhaps even Zenith could claw meaning for itself from the remains of a horrid accident. Auth Notes: I'm honestly not sure on some of these tags. The MC will never have access to the System, but there are perspectives from those who do. I'm not certain if high/low fantasy specifically apply, as it's a portal fantasy where the laws of our reality still apply but there are additional aspects/energies/powers. The existence of this is spurred from my desire to see more of the artificial side to an artificial intelligence in action. The portal fantasy is used as an element to create a solid barrier between the MC's artificial intelligence and the other characters in the form of the System. This is only a half-measure, though, and will be reinforced by the AI having an entirely different method of thinking, and also distinctly remaining an AI. Not to throw shade at other fictions of this type, but, well, I made this to fill a gap I felt needed filling.
