《Phantasmagoria》7. The Hierophant

In the last three years, Miss Fern (or Natalie, how I normally call her) taught me a lot of things, so now I can go to school. I’m 17 now but tomorrow, when school finally starts, I’ll be a tenth grader. Differently from my peers, I’ll be one year older, but that’s okay as I want to experience all three years of high school.
Natalie said that university and college are really different from high school, so after pestering my parents for a long time I was able to attend school from the tenth grade instead of the eleventh grade. I really love mom and dad, and I’m thankful for this chance to enjoy life normally. Well, I already know the tenth grade curriculum and I am halfway through the eleventh, but that’s okay.
It’s 11PM and, while staring blankly at the ceiling, I feel too excited about tomorrow’s events. I can’t sleep, I’m restless. I know it’s not gonna be always good, but that’s okay because life is like that. It’s not always good and it’s not always bad, it’s got ups and downs and it always tries to shake up your routine when you less expect it.
Looking to my side, I can see various Moluccella laevis, or Bells of Ireland, sprouting from the floor to greet me, making me feel even more excited as they wish me good luck.
From inside the car, I could see all sorts of people entering the school building. Professors, both young and old, were easily recognizable by their mature attitude. Most of them were like that, at least. Also, a lot of the passing students greeted them with a minimum of respect. I could feel my stomach trying to give me back my breakfast. Excitement and anxiety were overwhelming my senses, until a warm hand held my own, which was slightly trembling. I hadn’t even noticed it.

“Don’t worry kitten, it’s gonna be alright. I’m sure you are going to fit in and enjoy yourself.”
Mom stared at me in the eyes as she spoke. Her confident words and radiant smile seemingly gave me the strength to nod. I held my backpack, entirely covered with a photo of a galaxy/the space, tighter. It was really nice looking, but after seeing a couple of the girls’ backpacks I thought that maybe it was too flashy.

Wish-Fulfilling System
On Earth, it always seems like people have everything figured out. Perhaps they have talent or a set of optimistic goals. In the worst scenario, they would at least have a sense of self. Personal Agency
It is better to die knowing. Listen. The world as you know it is not as you know it. It is a construction, a facade, a mural painted over the world to hide the fact that it is very broken on some fundamental levels. That there exists an entire spiritual realm, one of cognition and perception and memory and that it teems with awful life. The world was not made for us. Jacob Irwing is a fairly normal 26 year old American man. He's an amateur photographer, unmarried and does not work in his chosen field. He is also dying, right now, in the first chapter of this story. Someone has put a bullet in him. Agent Z is a fairly abnormal woman of no nationality. Her age is classified. Her name is classified. Her background? You better believe it's classified. She works for the people who hide the truth. She is going to wake up with a hole in her head in the first chapter of this story, surrounded by corpses and also by a dying fairly normal 26 year old American man. Burned and seemingly abandoned by the Agency, Agent Z has lost her memory, her security clearance and her authorisation. All that she's gained is Jacob, who is thoroughly in this shit now. Together they must work to uncover the truth, if any such thing even exists, in this erratic urban fantasy weird-fic. Updates every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Australian time.

Solstice Anthology
A collection of short stories I've written over the past few years, the centerpiece being "Solstice" itself: On the Winter Solstice, the wind whispered. It roared and blew across the world, and reached even the Heavens above. With it, the great cold of winter flooded across that higher plane, and the gods staggered. They felt the golden dust of their divinity drift away from them, and the message of that wind became clear… This Winter will never end so that the Earth will.

Scionsong
Aliyah Scionsong is a failed scion of her kingdom: a crumbling desert dominion entombed in poisonous mists, home to murderous Magicians and dimensional libraries bursting with secrets—a place where so-called ‘Healers’ are the most dangerous of all mages. Under pain of necessity, Aliyah has learned the forbidden magics which mold flesh and bone to her will; magic that can heal or harm in equal measure. When a royal execution triggers an imminent battle between the Magicians and a nest of faeries, it falls on her to make some very difficult choices. Save a traitor, become a traitor—she’s thrust into a world beyond the choking mists, where not all is as it seems. But at least she has her stolen knowledge. Perhaps her illegitimate magic will make the path ahead easier. Perhaps not. Meanwhile, ripples of unease spread across the lands; trouble is brewing between faery factions. There’s a disgraced dungeonrunner, and a faery general carrying the broken ghost of her murdered queen. Faeries scheme; the Magicians watch and wait. The Last Faery War has only ever been the last faery war for now. Content warnings: violence, profanity, gore and body horror, allusions to offscreen sexual content, disturbing themes. Cover art drawn by the author. Updates Sundays (Australian timezone).
