《Vienna's Game》Chapter 1

As a teacher, it is expected of me to be properly groomed and dressed. Unfortunately, that is not who I am, or at least I do not show that side to my students.

“God damn it Ganon! This boss battle is stupid!”

I yelled at the phone while laying down on my bed out of frustration. I sighed as I lifted my phone in front of my eyes.

“Why can’t I beat this boss battle in less than one minute, it’s not like I am not over-leveled or the fact that I faced this boss for the hundredth time now. This game is stupid and grindy and I hate it… Oh shit, I ran out of energy for today, time to buy more.”

I scrolled the user interface looking for where to buy energy for today. When I was trying to buy more, the screen turned black suddenly.

“Eh? Ehhhh!?”

I pressed the button of my phone multiple times before giving up after doing several different methods. Like spam pressing the power button, holding the power button for at least 10 seconds, rapidly tapping the screen, and the infamous throwing my phone at the wall.

I hopped out of my bed and walked over to where I threw my phone. I picked it up, hoping that I did not shatter the screen. To my surprise, my phone remained in one piece and did not have any additional damages from before.

I sighed, “What would my students think if they saw me now.”

I walked back to my bed and plugged a power cable into the phone in hope that it charges. I then laid on my bed.

Tomorrow I would have to wake up at 6 am and I have to catch the 7 am train. It would be 8 am by the time I would arrive at the school grounds. I have to make sure to have everything prepped by 8:50 am, so I would have time to talk to my students before class officially starts. What should I talk about to them though? I forgot to think of a topic this entire day, and it seemed like I am now stuck.

Think, Kana, think… If I was a student of Ms. Oshino, would kind of question be a good question to be asked…

“If you were reincarnated into another world, would you use it as a second chance to make yourself a better person?”

I like that question. It is simple and there is no pressure to think really since it is a yes or no question. I think my students would like it. Especially with the popularity of that kind of scenario recently.

Not that I know of that… I stared at my pile of light novels in the corner of my room. My students would either think I am cool, or I am a complete dork. It is probably the latter, it’s not like I see them ever talk about books or anything that would be considered “otaku.”

Hearing their daily banter is what makes it worth it as a teacher. Although I just teach world history, if I was something like a cool science teacher or a literature teacher, I could probably talk about more interesting stuff with my students.

Quantum physics seems to be all the buzz recently, and that would be interesting to see what those kids are thinking about it. Too bad I cannot do any math to save my life.

Literature would be amazing too, imagine finding out that your literature teacher reads manga, if I was one of my students I would be like, “Wow, Ms. Oshino, you read the manga too? What is your favorite? What kind of genre do you read? Do you also read doujinshi?”

Well, maybe not the last one. They are just high schoolers, after all, it’s not like they are reading that kind of stuff in their free time, right? Right?

I hope not because I seemed some screwed-up shit and I would think that my students are better people. If I learned that read and liked those kinds of things, I would scold them for hours.

I do not want to be the bad guy to them, nor is it my job to parent them into being outstanding people. My role as a teacher is to guide them through the education system. But… I do kind of feel responsible for what kind of person they would end up after they graduate. The best I can do is hope they take my advice about what kind of people read those kinds of things.

In fact, I won’t even let it go, if I found out if my students are into those disgusting things, I would lecture them until their mindset has changed.

I feel like that is the correct option since it is the role of a teacher to guide them and to teach them. They will have to take what I say with weight too since I am a position that has been drilled into them that my profession, is someone who they will always remember in life… I hope.

I was raised that way, so I can only hope that my students were raised at least similar to my generation. It is not like every generation raises their children differently, right? Like this country is so old-fashioned and people prefer the “If it’s not broken don’t fix it” mentality.

Stability is an important part of society, and the way parents raise their kids will not change, because it’s part of that stability. Parents do not want their kids to end up different than how society expects them to act.

Our society is so homogenous it is freaky now that I think about it. It would probably be less stressful if society were to loosen up a bit since I want to see who my students are truly are. Well, it’s not like anything of them is wearing a mask or hiding anything. All of the students seemed to be able to express who they are, in my classroom openly, without any fears.

“As a teacher, I have been guiding my students correctly…” I whispered to myself as I fell asleep.
