《Bloodshed》Askel

Askel stared at the pile of documents at a loss. His sister had screamed. He knew that much but she’d been gone by the time they’d reached the section of the archives she’d ventured to. He looked to Keir. At least he was as much at a loss as he was. The thought brought him little joy. He’d just burried most of his family earlier today, now his sister was gone. He couldn’t take it if he lost her too.
The stale air around them suddenly began to move and swirl. When it stopped a man stood in front of them.
“Which one of you is Akira’s brother?” the man asked.
“I…I am,” Askel stuttered.
“Come with me,” he said. “Your sister needs you.”
“How do I know you’re going to take me to Kira?” Askel demanded.
“We don’t have time to argue,” the man growled. “Your sister could hurt herself, if she hasn’t already. So, are you coming?”
The man extended his hand to Askel. Without thinking about anything but his sister, Askel took his hand. The archives in the Hall of Records disappeared without warning. Askel felt sick to his stomach but he felt too compressed to throw up.
As suddenly as the archives had disappeared, a stone building appeared. Inside the building were four people, including his sister. Everyone was dwarfed by the ship that was sitting on the ground instead of being anchored in a bay. Akira was screaming profanities, which was really nothing new, and slamming her fists into the side of the ship, which was the cause of everyone’s consternation. Askel ran to Akira as fast as he could despite the ice beneath his dress shoes.
“KIRA!” he shouted trying to get her to hear him over her own screams, a feat in itself.

Seconds later, it seemed, he slammed into her. They fell to the cold ground but at least he was in between her and the ship.
“Kira, what is it?” he asked shaking her. “What’s wrong? Please, Kira tell me what’s wrong.”
She began speaking in the language they had created as children. One that he had largely forgotten as he grew older.
“Kira, I don’t know what you’re saying,” he whispered.
Akira gave him a long look but switched to English.
“I miss them Kel!” she sobbed. “And I hate him for being a fucking asshole.”
“Well sadly, you knew Keir was an asshole from the very beginning,” he replied dryly. “And I miss them too. They…”
For the first time since Nell, Adan, and their mother had died Askel didn’t have the words to say to comfort Akira. It was almost like he’d said them all already and couldn’t find any more to say to assuage her grief as well as his own.
He sat up.
“Let me see your hands,” he told her.
Akira sat up and reluctantly held her hands out to him.
“Look at what you’ve done, Kira,” he tsked. “Gods, you’ve probably broken them, not badly hopefully.” He sighed. “He should have never come to see you.”
Akira looked up at his comment.
“HE made a promise, Kira, and he didn’t keep it,” he said. “How could he not expect you to be furious?” He sighed again. “Come on. We’d better get you patched up so you can get back to work on your thesis. Dad wouldn’t’ve wanted you to get behind on it. ‘It’d be the discovery of the century not to mention your life!’”
Akira laughed a little.
“That’s something he actually said to me when he started looking for the Bloodshed,” she said. “He would have loved to see this.”

She looked up at the ship behind him.
“Nearly seven years searching and here she is,” Akira said standing. “I only wish he could be here to see her. He’d be dancing around and singing off key. He’d whirl me in a circle like he used to.”
“Used to?” one of the others in the room spoke up.
Akira turned to the young man who spoke.
“Our father had a stroke about eight years ago,” she answered. “He was lucky to survive but it left him a vegetable, basically. He has good days though. Those are the days I talk about the Bloodshed with him but they are few and very far between.”
She looked back to the ship with a sad half smile.
“Yeah, he would’ve loved this.”

My Girlfriend, the Necromancer
The power of the Orb cleaves the skies and shatters the earth. It heralds the advent of a new era, one where humanity is no longer at the top of the food chain and we must rise to the challenge when faced with our own extinction as a species. I could hardly care less. All I ever wanted was to love my Allie, to grow old and wrinkly by her side as I held her hand before taking my last breath on this green earth. To have our love echo through the ages, an ode to the last great love story on the planet, one that would endure the end of humanity, the breaking of the world, and even defy the dread summons of Death itself. It’s said that when the gods unleash their fury upon mortal kind, they grant their wishes. Well, crap. This is a gritty end of the world survival story with modern fantasy/romance/game-like elements in it. The main focus will be character development while stats and menus are there as a fun vehicle to empower the imagination. This is a work in progress and I deeply appreciate any helpful suggestions, so please don't be shy with input! Currently posting at least one chapter per week.

A Standard Model of Magic
The world ended, and magic came back. The part our parents didn't expect, was for Science to break on reentry. Twenty years after the apocalypse, with our nations dismantled and hidden continents unearthed, a new generation has grown up in the wreckage of 21st century civilization. For us, the fantastic is at our doorstep and we have had no choice but to fight back. Meanwhile, the laws of nature bend and break at the whims of immortal gods, all of which are now dead and none of which are content to stay that way. But we cannot afford to give up. We are the stewards of a rewritten century, in which a little luck and a whole lot of magic might make anything possible – maybe even a world better than the one we lost. A Standard Model of Magic is a complete overhaul of my old story A Storm in the Fall. I'm afraid I was unhappy with the LitRPG elements, which I don't mind reading, but I apparently loath writing. Sorry. Once I'd made the choice to decouple the story from the OF that inspired it and reconfigure the magic system to my satisfaction, little of the original plotline survived. I will be salvaging most of my original characters, and I will keep some elements which are endemic to the genre, but that is all. I don't have an update schedule which I can commit to yet, but I will try to maintain a weekly pace.(This is currently RoyalRoad exclusive, since I'm lazy. If you find it posted elsewhere, it wasn't me and it wasn't with permission) If you're interested, I've set up a discord.

A Goblin's Blade (dropped)
He looked down the path, which was littered with many things. Things he found in abundance were such of violence, desire and gore while things he found in scarcity were such of love, friendship and glory. At the start of the path was a naive, green goblin while at the end of it... Well at the end of it stood him: the godslayer, the monster from the forest, the walking death... He had many names but none so that perfectly captured his image as well as the Mad King. Authors note: Edit: Trying to release a chapter per day, around 2-2.5k words each. An evolution story about a goblin. This is under lit-rpg but I'm focusing more on the plot/characters instead of the usual features of such stories such as the blue tables that take ages to make or the stat screens. In essence it's closer to high fantasy than lit-rpg. Much appreciated if you read the Prologue to see whether you like it or not. Cover image is "Evolution" taken from art done by WhoAmI01

Birth of an AntiHero
AntiHero's FIRST REWRITE IN THE WORKS - thanks!! :] EDIT 2/28/22 - sorry, health problems right now, but I will post after rewriting the first 80-90,000 words or so and start fresh from there! Expect the change to be uploaded before summer! So long as I can keep using my hands, that is~! ^_^ X] This story will indeed get fleshed out as my vision improves for the better. But I feel the need to emphasize that a lot of parts are written in improvised comic book format as my primary writing style, and this first book is actually the entry point and starting novel for an entire very vast series I am in the works of developing. Many side characters here will eventually be main characters with there own stories; long or short. But this one particularly will be focused and centralized around Noel. Because of this, I do plan to leave the introduction for side characters as still having a special flow for readers to witness a tad of their background, so keep that in mind after my 'obviously many' rewrites from now and going into the future! Sorry for the troubles! I will improve on my style and implementation of the story!(Although I DO plan to keep parts as 'play style' or rather, comic book style, since I find it easier for certain dialogue instances as well as the fact that the novel is inspired by that 'feeling' you get while reading comic books. But my style is still evolving, you were warned!) Thank you! - Noel Tyler Malierano. He's the youngest 'son' to receive approval from 'The Malierano Family': A Criminal Organization of hitmen and hitwomen that specialize in killing, even maintaining success within a vastly superpowered society. Noel finally manages to complete his training as the newest 'Elite' killer his family created...but, there's just one problem - He doesn't want to kill! Come along and delve into a society of conflicting morals through the eyes of a boy, desperately searching for a new path to follow. Can he even manage to free himself from his father's engrained teachings and ideals? Conversely, will killing prove a lot more difficult to ignore? --- --> Thank you very much for reading! It would be helpful for me if you all consider leaving me a comment or an inbox suggestion, a review or even a full rating wherever AND whenever you believe I need to improve on anything or if something I wrote irked you! I appreciate EVERYONE that comes to read my story, however I DO want to improve my work as a writer. I hope all of you who don't like my work will let me know somehow, so I can edit and IMPROVE my story as a whole! Thank you everyone for your time! --- JUST TO NOTE!! When a character has a cultural name like, say, a Japanese or Russian name, that is because that character IS Japanese or Russian! They don't have to be FULL of one ethnicity either - sometimes they will be mixed. This story mainly takes place on an artificial continent where all countries have sent over their respective talents, meaning characters of ALL cultures and ethnic backgrounds will show hints of that in their names. Please don't assume I'm just randomly naming characters names that don't match them. And feel free to talk to me about whatever in my story troubles you - no matter how small! I love to improve. ^-^ X] --- Just to note: Characters will slowly grow as time passes. Slow pace. THANKS for reading! Enjoy! :] --- Decided to post 2 chapters every Tuesday and Friday instead of taking a small break, but I MAY upload once in a while on different days, such as Sundays, in addition to those two. :]
