"We know it happened. To this day Scholars debate whether the God's war ever stopped.
Some say that the Evil gods where only weakened, and that some day they will return. and with them their calamities"
-Prince Artorius Firsteman 4th in the line of succession Of the kingdom of Newland
Jack was woken up by Bosco's growling, a small stream of light peeked through the flap that worked as a door in their canvas tent.
His tried to get up but sharp pain shoot trough his head, wine hangovers where the worst, he did not understood how soccer mums from back on earth could withstand this torture, but he remembered why he did not liked to drink.
The dog Barked multiple times at the air waking up the other two men who where still sleeping.
"Shit" Siegfried said while massaging the bridge of his nose, still laying down on the floor, he suffered from the same kind of illness as Jack did.
Jack realized he needed to take a leak and forced himself to stand on his feet. he exited the tent and ventured away towards the public restrooms of the village.
the bathrooms where clean and fancy, the inside decorated in a similar fashion as the houses, but at the end it was still a hole in the ground, the small room was packed with flowers and aromatic herbs trying to mask the smell of shit, truly it had an honorable intent, but it was not fully effective since you could still pick up the smell.
After finishing his minor business he exited the structure and headed back towards the tent with his eyes half closed trying to get as little light between his eyelids as possible. each step was followed by what felt like a sharp stab in the middle of his brain.
he saw the Canvas on the distance some good 100 yards away, he walked slowly when he felt it.
The ground started to shake, almost impossible to notice at first it gained strength.
"earthquake, fuck!" he muttered while getting away from the buildings near by in case the houses would collapse.
He never been in an earthquake before but this one must have been a strong one. in fact strong enough to make him go airborne a few times for the fraction of a second. he saw some beams collapse on the house that burned down the night before, but he already knew that that house was empty.
When the earthquake stopped he looked around. Elves where emerging from their houses, looking around scared, some of them screamed in Old elvish to their neighbors, others where carrying their kids on their arms. Jack just looked a the tent in which his brother was sleeping. it was still standing on its feet, he saw the dog exiting and looking around smelling the air.
He manned up and ignored his hangover, walking faster towards the tent.
After entering he found Siegfried holding his battleaxe, he was dressed and ready for fighting. Jack picked up his spear and shield and Brandon groaned silently while he joined them, still not fully recovered they exited the tent.
"Earthquake or some giant monster?" asked Brandon while knocking an arrow on his bow
"felt like an Earthquake, but who knows. do this happen often here?" Jack asked Siegfried who was not paying attention to him, looking at the sky
"i never felt anything like this before" He answered a few seconds later
Bosco Was Snarling towards the tent and they all turned around too look at what startled him.
Everything seemed normal for the first few seconds but then the tent collapsed and a swarm of undead charged them in a clumsy way.

Siegfried immediately swinged his battleaxe almost severing a zombie vertically from head down his torso. he kicked the lifeless body lodged to his Axe before muttering "impossible..." while looking at the zombies in fear
"Fuck!" Brandon cursed as his arrow missed the head of a zombie and flew past him impacting on the chest of different one doing zero damage to the lifeless body.
Bosco's maws lodged on the knee of one of the undead and the dog pulled the monster to the floor before tearing its head out and disposing of it before launching at another one.
Jack rested his spear on top of his tower shield and trusted aiming for the eye socket of the closest undead. his trust was a bit low and it impacted on its neck, the zombie advanced without flinching. he pressed forwards, as jack took a few steps back and adjusted his thrusts finally managing to land a critical hit to the brain of the monster he hard some whispering
The zombie mage or lower lich as he would be described later on was casting some spell.
"get down" Jack dived to the side while tackling Brandon in the process.
A bolt of purple Death energy impacted on the earth behind Jack carving a small tunnel before bouncing of the floor and flying away in to the forest, if he did not dived down at that exact moment he would most likely be dead now.
A zombie aproached them and Jack used his arm as a shield, the wooden armguard did not gave in under the pressure created by the zombie's jaws, but the monster did not cared, he closed his teeth together with a stronger bite, some of his teeth cracked other straight up dislodged from his rooting gums. Jack kicked the zombie away with his leg and crawled away while helping his brother out.
Bosco had killed three zombies by now, Siegfried was dealing with another three at the same time, he moved with skill and grace, almost defying what you would expect from a man of his size, his axe shined with a golden glow as he cut another zombie in half without effort. that left four of them and the Lich focused on him and his brother
Jack used the back of his spear and raised to his feet.
"kill the mage, ill distract them, i cover you" said jack before launching his spear towards the Lich, who was casting another spell. The spear impacted on his chest and perforated a lung, interfering with the words the lich was speaking, the incomplete spell backfired and exploded around the Mage severing one of his arms in the process and launching him to the ground.
Jack used all of his strength and willpower and used his shield to try to hold the zombies back away from his brother who now had a charged FireStream arrow on his bow
"Now!" Screamed Brandon. Jack shield bashed the zombies in front of him startling them and then ducked down.
less than a second later an arrow flew over his head and impacted the Lich on the chest who was trying to get up from the floor in a clumsy manner. The lich screamed as fire tore trough his chest and he fell to the ground after a gaping hole of around 4 inches in diameter was burned out by the firestream.
Brandon tried to cast Flamethrower but a sharp pain rose from his side, he instinctively bent down and groaned in pain.
Jack had seconds to act, he took out his bayonet and stabbed a zombie in his gaping open moth, he was holding it back by the neck with the edge of the shield.

three zombies left. he thought.
He used his boxing foot work and worked his way around the zombie group driving them away from his injured brother, bashing one with his shield he heard a crack and saw the head of the zombie twist in an unnatural manner revealing a deep cut on his neck that reached the bone, probably a wound from the raid the night before.
Two zombies.
he dived under the extended arms of one of the undead and used his foot to trip it over making him land on the floor. with a quick pace he approached the last zombie standing and brushed his arms away to the side with a light shield bash, closing on the distance he stabbed the undead on the top of the head with a downward motion, the serrated blade on the back of the knife locked with the skull, and as he struggled to take out his knife he felt a sharp pain on his left ankle. Jack screamed in pain as he let go of the knife and faced the crawling zombie he tripped to the ground a few seconds back. it did not managed to get back on its feet, but i made it close enough to bite him.
Jack hit the back of the head and neck of the zombie until it was a dark red mess of brains and fragments of skull.
breathing heavily he dropped on his ass and pushed the zombie with the bashed in head away from him.
The villagers where screaming and pointing fingers. The Elven Elder rushed the battlefield.
Jack wiped the sweat of his forehead with his arm only to feel something sharp and hard lodged in to it, he looked and saw a few of the zombies teeth still encrusted in his wooden armor.
"Fuck" he whispered
He was sitting inside a house, a Female Elf was applying some herbal ointment to his ankle and then wrapping it on some clean cloth. she had dark bags under her eyes, probably she did not sleep last night after the raid, and now she had other monsters popping up inside their village. he pitied this people, especially the kids, who knows what kind of trauma they have been subjected to the past few days.
Siegfried was walking around the room in circles, he's been repeating the same thing for the past few minutes
"impossible!, this is impossible, Undead have not existed on this world for the past millennia, last time they where seen was back in the old continent, before humans emigrated here. Impossible!" he changed his battle axe to his other hand and kept on with his rant.
The village elder was standing in the door frame, he abandoned his working clothes and was now wearing some hardened leather armor and a bow at his back, a short sword on his hip, the three humans did not noticed the Elve entering the room, they all looked his way the moment he spoke
"Last recorded instance of Undead appearing in this village was 4 generations ago, the records state around 980 years."
the elve sat down and pursed himself some wine and drank, it was still early morning but no one judged his actions, all of them felt like they needed a drink after the fight this morning.
"The village hunter and his son had examined the tracks of the Undead. They had emerged from the mass grave that we buried them in last night to make sure the corpses don't spread diseases. it was only a temporary fix, so the earth covering them was thin, i believe this is what made it possible for them to dig their way out and attack us. for the reason why they focused you. i guess it was because your tent was the closest inhabited structure to the grave."
The Elvish man looked tired. he told something to the female tending to the wounds of Jack, she nodded and finished with the dressing before exiting the building and closing the door behind her
Seconds passed and the silence made everyone inside the house more and more restless. until the Elder spoke
"it was the Earthquake, that is the only explanation i have to this events" he paused and drank from his cup. "something must have awaken on this world, and ether it caused this events or it is only a part of the aftermath."
"you think we will see them again?" Siegfried asked as he looked at the Elf "i mean will there be more undead or is this a fluke, a mistake, some rare event that only will happen once"
"There is a saying back on our world, If something can go wrong, it will go wrong" Jack clicked his tongue and shook his head not wanting to accept that they will have to deal with undead from now on. his gut told him that they will.
"we can not stay here" Brandon said while resting his chin on his fist, his elbow was pressed against his knee, he looked like the statute of The Thinker.
"we make it to camp and salvage as much as we can carry" Jack said while standing up slowly, testing his injured foot before limping slowly to where his equipment was laid out on top of a bed.
"You never told me where was your camp" The Elvish man looked at Jack from across the room.
"there is a waterfall in a river half a day north from here. we are set on the river edge" Jack did not cared to keep their Camp location secret any longer.
"interesting" the Even male looked at jack and raised his brows "and you have not had any problems with the... Locals over there?"
"If its the mermaids you mean, we meet them once" Brandon said while getting ready to part at the same time as his brother.
"talking about that, We might need to visit them before we leave" Jack said without turning around
"i would advise otherwise, they are very territorial, and it's been a miracle so far that you have not been slaughtered by them after trespassing on the river" The Elve spoke slowly
"Yea about that..." Jack took out the pendant that he had hanging on his neck hidden by his armor and clothes. "i don't think it would be appropriate to leave without saying anything considering the circumstances."
The elder's eyes almost pooped out of his eye sockets when he saw the Pendant, he spit some wine he had drank half way and coughed a few times.
Siegfried had the dirtiest smile plastered all over his face, Brandon looked at the two natives not understanding the situation
"what is it?" He asked confused
"You naughty bastard!" Siegfried said with a laugh

ROACH- rising pestilence
A weary mind awakens in an unfamiliar body, lost, confused, scared, and very far from home. He doesn't know where he is, he isn't sure what he may become, and his stomach growls hungrily. But he knows one thing. He must feed and he isn't too bothered on how, only when. Through his struggles to survive trying to take his place in this world. It, the world will be forever changed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My first story here so let's do it! hopefully with flying colors. (This story is not about an insect that goes on an edgelord, death rampage, so those who came for that, know now what you are reading and stop rating down thx, still, some murder and mayhem is involved) Feel free to critique, I will be checking on reviews and comments every now and then to see what others think of my writing and how I might adjust it in the future. (although I'm also doing this for fun so don't get your knickers in a twist if things don't change to your liking). (Know that even if you comment/review that doesn't mean I will respond or that I will take your advice, after all, I too have my own preferences). A chapter tends to come out every fortnight, however sometimes it may be sooner or later, It depends on how lazy I'm feeling or how busy I am. Ps. A friend of mine drew the cover art, appreciate its homebrew goodness. PPs. serious readers may want to read the author's notes as well. PPPs. If you rate down please say why, I want info, not merely ratings that don't tell me anything, preferably in comments, so I can try to best satisfy my audience, or at the very least understand their reasons.

You know who she made the deal with. All she had to do was stalk the men of Curt's family and pick off one per generation. Plauge Time is when Curt's number comes up. He’s writing to set the record straight, he says, but really he is pouring out the truth in the hopes that his wife will read it and forgive him. Or if not forgive, at least understand that he was an unfaithful husband and a cowardly man all on his own, but had outside help on the road to final damnation.
