"My son.

I know it must been a hard choice for you to leave and chose exile. I know that seeing you out of the village or even writing this letter is prohibited but i do it at my own risk. we most likely will never see each other again. if being here is so painful to you i accept it even if doing so would break my heart.

Dont forget us and bare your name with pride so its the only thing they can not take away from you.

May you find peace in this life or in the next one and may The Wolf watch over you and keep you safe."

- Helga Stormbearer Matriach of the Highland Clan

Good Luck!

"What?" Jack grunted as he got up from the ground still pained by the way he fell, this whole situation was madness but it was happening without a doubt, as surreal as i may seem, jack reached his phone which was now laying on the floor, he must have dropped it while falling down. after pointing the phone's flashlight around them he realized it was doing more harm than good, he turned it off and let his eyes get accustomed to the darkness.

after 30 seconds he started to be able to see outlines and figure out their surroundings which was not much, they were standing in what seemed short to middle length grass, some sprouts were growing here and there very dispersed. and around the clearing they appeared there was woods. countless trees, some tall, others short, some evergreen some deciduous, some he could not even discern.

a loud roar followed by a screech, the first one did not resembled anything he ever heard before, but the second one sounded like a mountain lion. then a thud of a tree falling down

all three of the newcomers turned immediately facing the direction of the sounds.

"we go the opposite way, walk fast and don't make noise" said Jack with a low voice while backing away from the wooded area where now sounds of two or more beasts were having a bloody fight to the death.

Brandon did not dared voice an acknowledgment, he just did it, somehow his instincts were screaming to be quiet and walk away, it was not a fight they could take on right now, nor they wanted to.

shortly after they reached the edge of the forest the fighting sounds stopped and the same loud roar could be heard once again, this time it was a roar of victory, or so it seemed.

they kept walking as silent as possible through the woods, the only sound they could make beside bird calls and the sounds of insects was the dog that was tailing them and panting slightly.

for close to two hours they walked without any noticeable event, the adrenaline had weared off and with the slight chilling breeze of the forest they were starting to get cold, a light shiver took over their bodies, glad they had their working jackets on they kept on pressing until they reached the face of a cliff. It was around 30 feet tall and extended to both sides beyond where they could see, after scouting in a direction they found a crack in the cliff and decided to make camp for the night.

"I will gather some fire wood, make some kindling" said Jack "Bosco stay" he ordered the dog and he complied

by using their lighter it only took a few seconds to start the fire since most of the branches collected were dry, Jack debated if to keep it low and try to ride the night out without being noticed or if make a big fire and detour the wild animals of approaching. they opted for the former and dug a small pit with some sticks so the flames don't rise up to much. it was a dense forest, but who knew what could see them and from what distance.

"ill be on watch for a few hours I'll wake you up when its your turn" said jack while sitting with the fire behind him so it wont mess up his night vision.

Brandon tried to sleep but the stone floor only covered by a thin layer of moss did not help, he closed his eyes and tried, but somehow he felt like it would be impossible to sleep this night with all that happened today.

He almost jumped when his brother shook him lightly to wake him up, it took him a couple of seconds to realize where he was and that for the time being it seemed like there was no danger, he exhaled loudly while rubbing his sleepy eyes.

"its almost dawn, take over watch" the two brothers exchanged places and jack fell asleep almost immediately, he could hear his brother breathing heavily behind him, Bosco was laying next to him with his eyes closed. Brandon squatted down and had his switch blade in his hand even though he doubted it would do much good against the beast that roared before that night.

he tried to process the events that preceded that night and could not come up with a logical explanation to what happened. it was by far the weirdest and most disturbing event of his life, and he had dated crazy, like Melissa who burned all his clothes and ended almost burning down his dorm room when he was back in college after he caught her cheating, or when she tried to stab him because he refused to get back together with her after that, he heard the "never date redheads" advice from many before, and he really tried, god knows he tried, but he was a weak man.

the sun peaked from above the canopy and hit him in the face bringing him back from his mind wonder about lost love and attempts of murder. the fire has died down and it was now cinder and red coals, he stood up and stretched his legs witch were now sore from all the squatting, bird calls could be heard in the distance, a virgin forest stood in front of him, ready to be conquered and claimed, he shook his head, leaving those insane thoughts behind. what waited for him in this forest was pain and a gruesome death, nothing more.

After waking up Jack mumbled something about "Fuck me" and "ghetto ass teleportation" he made extra emphasis about the "faggy blue boxes" all the complains were reasonable taking in to account their current situation.

"so what is the plan?" asked Brandon while sitting on a rock that now worked as an improvised bench.

"the plan is to survive" his dark beard made the black bags under his eyes look even more pronounced. he tossed a few dry branches in the coals and waited for them to ignite so he could warm himself up

"i swear to god and even the devil himself that we will survive this" his tired look did not diminish the determination that his eyes denoted. Brandon seen this kind of eyes before, when his brother decided to join the marines after 9/11, when he went on a "vacation" for a week after some drunk and high rich kid ran over their mother only to "disappear" after being released on bail. this were his fighting eyes, they still had a chance.
