《Pursuit of Life》Chapter 29: Recent Changes

Delton calmed down by taking several deep breaths, as his initially pounding heart slowed down to normal levels. He looked at his hands and found that they were in their original form. Scanning the room, he could not find any signs of Lucius.
He said under his breath, “Looks like he really is gonna give me a break, but what the fuck was that dream? I really can’t even have a regular ass dream during my resting period.”
Soon, the middle-aged doctor walked in with several aides behind him, and they removed the tubes from Delton’s body and asked him to try slowly rise from the bed.
To their shock, Delton raised his body easily. Feeling energy flowing through him, he quickly took off the blanket then stood up, much to the bigger shock of Delton himself.
The doctor scrunched his eyes and told Delton that he was going to check Delton’s vitals. The doctor’s eyes also changed to a relatively lighter shade of purple, but Delton felt that this gaze did not deeply penetrate into him, like before. It was more like a surface level probing through his body.
This weird feeling started from his head, then moved down his body. Instinctively, Delton covered his genital area, to the various chuckles from the aides. However, the doctor was wearing a serious expression.
After finishing the scan, the doctor said, “ “What the—? Your muscle mass has increased by a non-insignificant amount ever since you were checked in. It looks like your body has gotten stronger in this day? What’s your Talent again, uh Mr. Cloud.” The doctor said, after he tapped his temple to find Delton’s name.
Delton looked down his body and flexed, noticing that some of his muscles have indeed grown, and he responded, “Umm, it’s Jack of All Trades.”
The doctor continued to probe the muscles that Delton flexed and said, “Well, it seems like you have some affinity towards muscles. I have had some experience in determining Talents before and would like to recommend you check with the Bureau about this affinity some time soon.”
Delton hurriedly shook his head, saying, “Ah. That sounds ok, but I’ll wait after I recover more.”
However, the doctor grew more excited, tapping his temple, and said, “I can make an appointment for you right now.”
“That won’t be necessary. Thank you, doctor.”
Realizing that Delton was not going to do so soon, the doctor sighed and said, “You’re an extremely lucky man, Delton. Not many people could recover from your state so quickly, I would’ve thought you were a Second or even a Third, haha. But you may have an extra Talent, which is pretty rare. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions about your Talent. The name’s Doctor Gonde.”
Then, he tapped his temple, causing a screen with his contact details to pop up in Delton’s view.
After Delton accepted, Doctor Gonde continued, “Hahaha. Your body is in better shape than entering the hospital, so I move to discharge you from the hospital now.”
The nurses guided Delton towards a hovering chair, which moved on its own, towards the lobby of the hospital. Delton received some paperwork via his AI and signed them with a couple of taps. Then, the chair took him to the entrance of the hospital without hurry.
A familiar voice echoed out, “I would recommend you take a taxi back, but due to your physical condition, you should be able to walk back without issue. Due to Mom Sol Corporation’s policies regarding health, you will have paid sick leave from work for a whole week. Remember Mom Sol cares.”

After hearing this, Delton sneered and muttered under his breath, “It’s only because your terrible overworking conditions have been exposed to the world and no graduates would work for you.”
After getting up from the chair and moving past the entrance, he started to walk back home. Feeling a sharp pain from his pockets, he fished around it and found the timepiece and eyepiece that he had taken from Rokex in the trial. Confused, he simply shook his head and said, “I gotta ask that old man about this.”
Close by, he noticed various Mom Sol corporates, some carrying weapons, standing in a perimeter with a large tent in the middle. He said, “Those fucking idiots. Why can’t they just let me live a normal life? That doctor was too keen on me joining him.”
Feeling his curiosity tingling, however, he touched his forehead, wanting to peer inside the tent. After thinking about it some more, he decided not to.
Because he was staring at the tent, he did not notice that a corporate had walked up to him. It was a woman who looked in her thirties with shoulder-length black hair. She was carrying a rifle on her back, and a blade hung from her waist. She said to Delton, “Please move along, manufacturer. There’s a corporate operation going on.”
Delton nodded and moved on. He also saw several onlookers, but they were immediately shooed away by the corporates like him.
On the way back home, he stopped by Tekle’s skewer shop, which already had some people in it, as it was breakfast time. There was a group of patrons, mostly manufacturers, talking to each other.
As Delton sat down, one of the patrons, a young man dressed in orange manufacturer’s clothes pointed at Delton and said, “Hey, you look really familiar. Where have I seen you before?”
To which, a manufacturer man in his thirties spoke, “Yeah, he does look familiar. I can’t put my finger on it, though. From where, kid?”
Delton turned around, but waved his hand and said, “I think you’re mistaking me with someone else.”
Then, Tekle appeared from the back, causing some of the patrons to heckle him for more food. Tekle took their orders starting from the farthest, until he reached Delton, who asked for six plates of skewers.
Tekle responded, “Hoho! You are a hungry man. Should a man just coming out of a coma eat so much”
“Hehe, it wasn’t even that long of a coma. Can you even say you’re in one after only a day? Besides, according to the doctor, apparently my body grew stronger.”
When the two locked eyes, from Delton’s view, he saw another figure superposed with Tekle’s body. The older man had blonde hair, cut extremely short, and he no longer wore earrings. His initially lively jade eyes appeared extremely dim, while several bags surrounded it. Dirt and dust covered his body, but Delton could make out that this man was wearing manufacturer’s clothes. Suddenly, a tear dropped his eye, but Delton blinked with some force.
Opening his eyes again, the figure of the older man was no longer there. Delton then said, “Thank again for visiting yesterday. I really appreciated it.”
However, Tekle saw the actions and rubbed the back of his head, “Don’t get too emotional. That’s what friends are for right? Don’t worry about it.”
As busybody as people were, one of the regulars said, “Tekle! You were at the hospital yesterday? Did you happen to see that weird looking meteor crash?”

The young man wearing orange manufacturer’s clothes said, “Did you know that that meteor actually landed on one of my coworkers. It was unbelievable. She was young, pretty, and had a good personality. I was thinking of asking her out real soon.”
A jeer came from far back, saying, “Some higher power must have know and saved her from the cruel fate of being asked out by you.”
“Hey, that’s too soon, you jerkass!” The young man replied.
However, the thirty-something man asked Tekle, “But Tekle, what else did you see? You must’ve been there, right? Tell me that crazy shit in the videos are all fake.”
Tekle had finished placing the plates of food in front of everyone. Then, he put his hands on his hips and gesticulated forward, “Haha. I saw everything! And trust me, it’s all real, but it was so surreal!”
“Bullshit!” The young man slapped his hand on the table, while another person said from the other end of the stall said, “Right! That blue and yellow spheres of light! What the fuck even were those? Looked like it came straight out of a movie.”
Delton silently ate and did not participate in the conversation. As the news was particularly interesting, several passersby sat down and joined, while ordering several plates of skewers. Some were discussing possible conspiracy theories, others were discussing the fate of that man who dropped with a thud. One of them was even on that street when it happened. This discussion was particularly lively and loud, and a group of two dozen people had congregated around Tekle’s stall.
A soft woman’s voice called out, “Excuse me.”
To this noise, the group suddenly stopped talking as a beautiful young woman, taller than almost everyone present, wearing a purple business suit with a pin emblazoned on the collar, split the group. The pin was of a V, flanked by two smaller W’s on each side, as if the V was made from the W’s.
She flipped her black curly hair to the side, and spoke with the same soft voice that made everyone feel relaxed, “Hey, I was on the way here from a business trip, but couldn’t help but to overhear this interesting news. Can you tell me what happened?”
At first, everyone was mesmerized by her voice and looks. Tekle broke the awkward atmosphere by placing a plate of skewers in front of her and said, “You can ask me all you want. I was there when this happened.”
Then, like wildfire, the originally lively group became livelier as several people shouted out, “I was also there!”
“It was a crazy! There was a meteor shower!”
Everyone, both men and women, were enchanted by this woman. Delton also felt this mesmerized attraction towards her, and was about to say something, until a burning feeling pulsed from his forehead. He touched it slightly and felt that his third eye had not revealed itself, but this weird feeling towards the woman was now gone.
He instinctively activated Caelus’ thought processes, which immediately caused several thoughts to warn him, ‘Don’t act differently from them. Don’t even get up. She’s gonna notice. Act infatuated with her, like the others. Look at her with the same look you showed Jade from before.’
The woman, then looked towards Delton since he was not speaking, but after she noticed him ogling her, she sneered. People continued to retell their stories and theories about what happened.
As they were saying it and with arrogance all over her face, she tapped her forehead and said, “Boss was right. There’s an interesting object at Mom Sol Corporation. I’ll try my best to investigate, but from what these disgusting Firsts tell me, it’s heavily guarded…Ok. I’ll reconvene with the group later tonight to plan out our next action. You owe me a good dinner, tonight. One of them even offered me these horrendous meat skewers.”
She immediately got up without touching her food or bothering to say goodbye. She left without another word, much to the confusion of the whole group of people, except Delton. Tekle, asked everyone what just happened, but no one had a good response, as if they were all still infatuated by the memories of her. Tekle reached out for the plate of food, with a blush on his face, but Delton grabbed it and started to eat it. Tekle spoke in a cold voice, “Damn it, Delt. That plate cost you double!”
He, then went back to cooking, as people continued to talk about the meteor crash. Delton finished his food quickly, then tapped his temple to pay Tekle, who just grunted at the notification. He got out, as more people were joining this lively crowd and discussing the news.
Arriving back at his apartment, he found that it was completely empty. In less than a minute, a knock rapped on his door, causing him to say, “Who would ever knock on my door? Mellie shouldn’t have my address.”
He tapped his temple, and a screen showed up on his view, revealing a man who looked almost exactly like Rokex, wearing gray manufacturer’s clothes, and right behind him was the weird trio.
Delton opened the door, and the weird trio took their respective seats on the couch, while Lucius put on CEO’s Second Life as a Manufacturer on the television. A bowl of chips appeared in front of each of them as they began to watch. Rokex slowly walked in, and Delton noticed that he looked haggard.
Rokex sat at a chair on the dining table and sighed, craning his neck up, as if in despair. Delton walked up to the weird trio and asked, “Is that really, Rokex? From the trial?”
Fate spoke with his mouth full, “Unfortunately. Fucking Unli brought him here with that stupid tablet.”
A groan emerged from Rokex, to which Delton cringed slightly, “What’s the matter with him?”
“He’s stuck here, so he’s just going through a depressive episode. Trust me, I know how it feels to be stuck in another world. It’ll pass.” Lucius spoke indifferently as he munched on his chips.
“Can you help him out, old man?”
Lucius looked back at Delton as if he was looking at an idiot, saying, “Did you forget? He can’t see me. He’s not as strong as Fate and Master Unli. He’ll get over it.”
“If Master Unli could bring him here, can’t he just bring him back?”
However, Unli replied, “I have a no-interaction policy with worldly events. If an event associated with these beings were caused as a ramification of my actions, I still won’t interfere. That event happened because of Fate. Haha—Ahh! Can’t you take a joke? You made me bite my tongue!”
Fate had thrown a bowl of chips at Unli, starting another argument to occur between them. Then another groan, echoed out from Rokex. Delton looked to the corner of his view to look at the time and realizing that morning had not even ended yet, he sighed with exasperation.

The Nightcore Trilogy
Going to space was supposed to be the adventure of a lifetime, but for Reece Danielson and his crew, it was only the beginning. As the fresh astronauts aboard the Zhengzhou International Space Station start their on-the-job training, Reece is shown a discovery that changes his entire worldview. It isn’t long before a tragic accident aboard the station sets off a series of events that not only puts the crew in danger but at odds with each other. The events quickly escalate into a man-made apocalyptic incident on the surface of the planet. A virulent plague is prematurely released which transforms everyone into flesh-eating undead, and that is only the beginning of the troubles. There are far worse things down there than zombies and possibly a few of them lurk on the station itself. The Nightcore Trilogy thematically begins with a heavy sci-fi feel coupled to a gritty space-based horror mystery. The story's layers are slowly peeled back, evolving into something much more supernatural, mythological, and high-fantasy-based. It's a mix of elements from survival horror, zombie apocalypses, ancient mythologies, supernatural stories, and harem anime. It contains semi-descriptive sex scenes (traditional and non-traditional), descriptions of gore, profanity, and adult situations, so I recommend it for mature and open-minded audiences only.
