《Pursuit of Life》Chapter 28: Nothing Will Be the Same

Fate looked at this sad scrawny naked man in front of him and put on a disgusted face. His expression took on many forms, including anger, sadness, and acceptance, but mostly anger.
He moved towards Rokex and, with his index and middle fingers together, tapped Rokex’s forehead, causing Rokex’s eyes to roll up and revealing the whites, as he fell on the ground softly. With a snap of Fate’s finger, a blanket appeared and wrapped itself around Rokex.
Immediately after, Fate grabbed Unli by his tracksuit and started to berate him, “Are you fucking kidding me?! Now only did you bring an outsider here, but this outsider turned out to be a Child of the Lonely! You know how much I hate having to deal with that guy! Oh. Woe is me, for my family died before I was born! Woe is me, I failed my ancestors back then! Fuck that guy, he’s too depressing for me to handle!”
Unli patted Fate’s head and said, “Relax, Fate. You haven’t been out there for quite some time. That loner has actually been missing for a couple of millennia. You’ll be fine.”
As if a rope snapped, Fate looked at Unli with unemotional eyes, while Fate continued to pat Fate’s head. With a cold voice, Fate spoke, “But you won’t.”
Fate, still holding onto Unli, jumped up to the starry sky, both disappearing from Lucius’ sight. Soon, some of the bright lights in the sky began to move, as what seemed like a meteor shower began to take place.
A voice that only Lucius could hear, echoed from the skies, “Aaaaaaaaahhhhh! Let me go! Damn it, Fate! Relax!”
The meteor shower became more and more chaotic, as light trails spread out, making fantastic patterns in the sky.
Suddenly, the whole hospital building flashed, as the hospital regained its power and all the lights turned on. Lucius went down to Delton’s room, and on the way down, he heard various shouts from the people inside as well as sounds of amazement. He turned his eyes to the streets below, and many people were looking and pointing up, as the ‘meteor shower’ continued to leave them in awe. More and more bright streaks of light populated the sky, but it was only Lucius who heard the wonderful cacophony that accompanied them.
Fate’s voice, then echoed out, “What the fuck?! You dropped it?!”
From the sky, one of the lights grew larger and larger, as if it was getting closer. The friction from the source used it to glow a bright red, as the surrounding temperatures increased. Various screams came from the crowd, as the ‘meteor’ hurled itself right by the hospital. Lucius’ eyes followed the ‘meteor,’ and he was able to make out that it was actually the Limit Breaker tablet that Unli had brought back.
As the tablet got closer, some of the crowd started to disperse, but it was mostly for naught, as the tablet actually landed on some poor woman wearing orange manufacturer clothes. The impact immediately obliterated her into a mist of blood, while the heat evaporated it.

Furthermore, the people surrounding her were not able to escape on time and were blown away by the shockwave, as a large crater, the width of the building, formed.
Tekle and Boss Bopa had been conversing with Delton, until a large streak of light passed by the hospital window, making them hurry to look outside. Delton shouted out, “Hey! What’s going on out there?”
Tekle tapped his forehead causing a display to pop up in Delton’s view with the words,
User Tekle Gonfra wants to share his perspective with you
Delton accepted and what he saw was a crater the size of one of the buildings right in the middle of the street. There was a small fire at the epicenter, as various bodies, on fire, littered the streets.
Sirens went off as various flying cars and groups of Mom Sol corporates arrived at the scene. They pushed out all of the onlookers and immediately cordoned off the crater, as well as putting out the fires.
As the fire at the center of the crater was put out, a glowing piece of rock jutted out. Because of hospital elevation and the resolution from the transfer, all Delton saw was a figure approach the glowing object, then immediately freeze on the spot. Soon, a blue sphere of light came out of that figure and made several resolutions on the glowing object before entering it.
Delton softly asked, “What the fuck is going on?”
However, Boss Bopa just mouthed out, “I have no idea.”
Delton noticed that Lucius had returned and gave him a questionable look, to which Lucius replied, “Fate and Master Unli had a fight, and Master Unli dropped a Limit Breaker tablet.”
More and more Mom Sol corporates arrived and quickly dispersed the crowd. One of the figures approached the person, frozen in place with various electrical discharges from his or her own fists, but to no avail. Because of this power, Delton scrutinized the video more and made out the red hair of the figure, bringing back memories of the corporate who resuscitated the fat man a while ago.
The red-headed man, then took a look at the tablet and also froze in place, as a yellow sphere of light exited from his body. This yellow sphere did not make any revolutions when it approached the tablet. Instead, the yellow sphere simply dispersed, as the red-headed man fell over with a heavy thud, making some of the onlookers, including Tekle, from several buildings to scream out.
Delton mouthed out, “So you’re telling me that these people are now taking the Limit Breaker trial? But why did that person have to die?”
To which Lucius nodded, saying, “Unless you’re someone like Master Unli, you should not disturb a trial taker.”
Delton, then turned off Tekle’s view, as he began to ponder the effects of this tablet being here.
Then, a notification came into his view as the AI voice read the words to him,

“Mom Sol Corporation is investigating a recent meteor crash and would like non-corporate personnel to go back home.”
Hearing this, both Boss Bopa and Tekle hurriedly said their farewells. Delton noticed that they had goosebumps, but did not probe any further.
Realizing that he most likely could not make a big change, Delton started to feel tired, but he hesitated to fall asleep. He squinted his eyes towards Lucius, who was staring at the crater. However, as feeling of tiredness overwhelmed him, his heavy eyes betrayed him and closed.
Unlike before, his dreams were empty, fully pitch black. Seeming to have control over his body, Delton raised his hand to look at it, but still only saw darkness. Delton then opened his third eye, which illuminated a small area in front of him and revealed a simple mirror that was as tall and wide as he is.
Peering into it, Delton started, as the reflection was not of himself, but instead of a man who had very familiar characteristics. This man was only wearing a simple shirt and shorts, but certain areas were covered with gray armor pads. The vicissitudes of time showed, as there were several wrinkles and scars that etched his face and body. The man also had brown hair that was parted down the middle and went down to his shoulders.
However, what made Delton even more shocked was that the man also had a third vertical eye, peering back at him and showing a golden and orange dual pupils. Also, the whites of his eyes were replaced with a bright neon green.
Staring into the reflection, the illumination from his third eye, revealed another mirror behind him, immediately creating an infinity mirror effect with the two mirrors. Each subsequent reflection of Delton had some differences, such as a missing arm, or a larger body, or hairstyles. But there were two distinct features of all of them, which were the third eye and their much older age, relative to Delton himself.
Delton mouthed out, as he stared into the first reflection, “What are you?”
And to his surprise, the reflection spoke back to him, “As Lucius once said, ‘Are you sure you’re not stupid or something?’”
Delton reached out to touch the mirror, causing all of the other reflections to do the same. He then asked, “What kind of dream is this?”
And his sixth reflection who was wearing a blindfold, since an X-shaped scar marred his forehead down to his cheeks, said, “As Lucius said, ‘The dream is a mirror to one’s soul.’”
Delton turned around and asked in a slightly frightened tone, “So this is my soul. But why are there so many of you?”
To which a reflection far in the back said with a booming voice, “As that shit Lucius said, ‘Because your soul has lived many lives!’”
Wheels began to turn in Delton’s head, as he began to think back to some of Lucius’ words and then ask, “What do you mean? Like reincarnation? But why do we all look the same?”
Another reflection spoke up, but it was right behind an extremely muscular version of Delton, so Delton could not see it, “As that bastard Lucius said, ‘The cycle of reincarnation does not exist in this world.’”
Delton’s mind continued to think back through his memories and remembered some of the stories he read, and two words exited his mouth, “Parallel worlds?”
A thin and bony version of Delton spoke up, “As that snake Lucius said, ‘parallel selves abide by the golden rule, so they should have no effect on us.’”
“Then what is all of this?”
“As that fucking monster Lucius said, ‘Your soul Talent is related to time.’”
“Why can’t you just tell me openly? Why do you have to recite Lucius’s words?”
All of the reflection said, with a deep and cold voice and all of their eyes bloodshot, “As that fiend Lucius said, ‘Your hatred for me has taken over most of your previous memories.’”
“Why should I hate Lucius?”
Then, the reflection in front of him said, “As that cheater Lucius said, ‘You have been determined by Fate to be my next incarnation.’”
Delton took a step back, causing all of the other reflections to do same, muttering, “No-no-no. Lucius and I made a deal! He said as long as I find a body for him, he’d be fine.”
Suddenly, all of the reflections slowly began to change. Their hair grew to the point of falling out, as white hair sprouted from their heads. The third eye closed and the vertical slit sealed itself shut. Their bodies contorted in many was, as bones snapped and cracked, as the body transformed into Lucius’.
The sounds of steps and glass shattering echoed out, as the reflections broke apart, starting from the ones in the back. This continued until the last reflection, which was right in from of Lucius.
Lucius’ hand stretched out from the mirror, causing it shatter, revealing a smiling Lucius walking towards Delton, who said, “As we said, ‘you’re talking to the shrewdest man you’ll ever meet.’”
Delton, then felt his own body morph into a different proportion as well as his mentality change to that of one, reminiscent of the one he had when he possessed the child Lucius. Trying to combat this, Delton began to take on Caelus’ mentality, but failed.
As his mind was about to take over, he woke up with a jolt, as an echo sounded out on his head, “Wake up Delton. You have an appointment with the doctor in five minutes. Please relax your body as you are still connected to medical equipment.”

A Warning: There is an Anti-hero lead for a reason, and there should also be a Y.A. tag, but RR doesn't have it; therefore here it is. So, there's going to be blood, there might be carnage, but there will also be wholesomeness, romance, and affection. But most importantly, there will be Action. About the LitRPG: This novel is a slow-burn, with a lot of character development, yet the LitRPG element starts in Chapter 3 and becomes more prominent as the protagonist evolves his Skill. Further elements appear in Chapter 38. I'm not a native speaker: If you see any typos, please point them out, and I shall fix them as soon as possible. Thank you! The Core And The Wardens of Eternity
What is the Core, they asked me... It's the light that pushes the darkness away, a bastion of justice, a safe keeper of life. It grooms love and tolerance, embraces science, fights ignorance, sentences it to die a slow and tragic death. The Core... it's something that can't be destroyed for destroying it is to terminate the time and space itself. When the stuck-in-a-dark-age world of Zanria goes offline, the Core sends one of its experienced agents to find out what is going on and to try to reestablish a mysteriously severed connection. However, all his training and experience might come way short as the world sinks in war and chaos with different races and clans fighting for the Star of Bardan, the ward rumored to possess enough supernatural power to create and destroy entire worlds. *** I just changed the name of the series, from 'the Nexus' to 'the Core'. Somehow it just sounds more right to me. This is the first story, and it has a medieval fantasy setting. But, eventually, this is going to turn into Isekai series with elements of LitRPG. So, my future books might include worlds with advanced technologies that might be more in SciFi, including Steampunk, genre. The first book might start slow, but after a few chapters, it should all be properly set up, and by then you should get the feel of how it will all flow. Also, I plan to introduce different story threats that should spread out and criss-cross in the future. Hopefully, I will not complicate it too much, and that it will all read good. I am planning to continue to add chapters to the main storyline here, but I'm also starting a new story threat in the Core series called The Recordings of Raan. There is also a side story The Memoires of Eisen that's exclusive on Patreon for those who would like to support me.
