《Pursuit of Life》Chapter 18: Flames of War

Seeing that Delon had been placed inside an ambulance by some of the first responders, the older Caelus sighed, then went back into Delton’s mind.

Inside the dream, he looked around the destroyed village, with a couple of tears emerged from his eye, and went towards the direction of the town hall.

There, he saw Fortissimus and Caelus in front of the remaining villagers. Their originally four hundred strong village dwindled down to barely over two hundred, now mostly composed of women, children, elderly, and the newly injured.

Fortissimus spoke in a loud voice, carving through the solemn and somber atmosphere, “My people! I know that this is a difficult time right now! But we can get through this. For the more older men and women, remember back when we founded this village. The amount of pain and effort we had to go through. There were even times when we thought we would’ve been. Completely wiped out. But that never happened. And just like today, we’ll come back stronger than ever! Believe in me, like back then!”

Several of the elderly looked in one with gleaming eyes of hope. However, the younger generation did not see it the same way. They instead looked with incredulity and hatred. One of the wives even yelled out, “My son died! Where was your son?!”

Murmurs grew within the crowd. This caused one of the hunters, who had his upper torso wrapped in cloth, which revealed through it the bleeding of a large claw shaped injury, to call out, “Why was he not here? Did you know about this earlier and sent him out to protect him?!”

Caelus did not bother to answer back, and continued to look down on the ground. Fortissimus spoke out, “I sent him out on a special mission! Because of information provided to me, I believed it was the right time to exact our revenge on the draconians. I sent my son Caelus to the general’s camp to destroy it.”

The same hunter clutched his bleeding chest and called out, “You expect us to believe your kid’s strong enough to do that?! Liar!”

However, when he said that, Caelus frowned and looked at the hunter who just spoke. He released a bloodthirsty intent, causing the hunter to fall down on his ass, the pressure completely suffocating him, not allowing him to speak.

Fortissimus placed his hand on Caelus’ shoulder, signaling Caelus, who then retracted the intent back to his body. Fortissimus spoke, “It’s true, Arrius. Who do you think killed all of the attackers? It wasn’t me.”

The hunter leader, then called out, “He’s right! I saw it with my own eyes. It was a bloodbath. With each attack, a draconian fell!”

The sudden news caused an explosion of murmurs between the remaining villagers. Arrius and the widow were now silent. Then, most of both the younger generation and the older generation looked at Caelus with a new light. However, there were still some who casted cold glances at the father son pair.

Fortissimus called out, “In place of the late Gaius, my son will be the new training leader for the children. With his training regiment, he’ll be training the next generation, that will lead us in the future. In the evening we’ll host the mass funeral.”

The crowd slowly dispersed. Fortissimus saw Caelus continued to look at the ground, so he was about to say something, but Caelus disappeared with a blur.

Lucius followed after Caelus and saw that Caelus went to a portion of the village wall that stayed intact. The wall had several markings, the highest markings were around four meters. Caelus spoke softly, “Maybe I should’ve trained you fully.”

He briefly touched the wall and started to weep. Lucius shook his head. Suddenly, Delton spoke out from Caelus’ mind, “How’s it going, Lucius?”

Lucius looked back at Caelus, who was focusing on the wall with a familiar glance, “Caelus? I’ve been doing well.”

“We had this conversation before?” Delton again spoke out, from Caelus’ mind.

“Yeah, kind of.”

“Hehe. You got yourself in an interesting place! Typical Lucius. I’m honestly surprised that you were able to keep your memories.”

“Yeah, it was thanks to an old friend.”

“You gotta introduce me, later. Judging from this kid’s mind, do you think you’ll be able to come back?”

Gritting his teeth, Lucius answered, “I honestly don’t know.”

Delton then released a sigh, then spoke, “To think that you’d end up actually having to use this technique. It seems you’re gonna go through with it.”

“Yeah. I’ve thought about it often, but I need to come back. To get revenge. I wasn’t able to forget, and I’m detached from the cycle of reincarnation. This is fate.”

“The typical hypocrite Lucius. Haha!”

“You disappointed?” Lucius asked with a shy smile.

“Ehh. Why should I be disappointed if I gave you this foul technique?”

“Phew. That’s a weight off my shoulder. I’m surprised you’re not that sad at my death. It actually hurts me,” Lucius chuckled.

“I placed a little part of myself in the memories I gave you, just in case. This piece of me had already accepted that you had died. But I’m honestly surprised at your death. However, I’m not sad. I’m angry…Increasingly angry. Who killed you anyway?” Delton said with a cold tone.

“Well, I killed some Truegod’s son when fighting for the legacy at the time, and he got his revenge.”

“I don’t care about the background. What’s his name?”

“Nan Zhek.”

“Hmm. Name doesn’t ring a bell. Maybe my current self will know more. I’ll get revenge for you, even if you don’t come back.”

“Are you crazy? Do you know how strong he is?”

“No need, because if we see each other again I’ll have reached the peak. If we don’t, then I’ll send him off to accompany you.”

“You’re just continuing the cycle of revenge.”

“Ha! What else did he expect?! This is the cultivation world, the only thing eternal here is revenge. Well, my synchronicity with this kid’s gonna end now. So this is goodbye Lucius, unless we meet again.”

“Goodbye, Caelus,” Lucius solemnly said. Delton, now a wisp, was then kicked out of Caelus’ mind.

Inside a barren room, a young man sat in a cross-legged position with his eyes closed. His unkempt black hair hung down to his shoulders, naturally outlining the bone necklace hung on his neck.

He wore a light brown shirt and a green lower garment, like an izaar. Though, he was wearing loose clothing, his body radiated eruptive energy with each breath.

Suddenly, his eyes snapped open wide. His originally reds pupils, slowly turned into cool, green color. He jolted upward, standing two meters tall.

Then a golden armor formed around his body from nothing, fully covering all of his body. Walking forward, each of his steps let out a heavy thud. The energy from his body increasing at an alarming rate.

When the golden helmet, the shape of a human skull, formed around his head, thunder resounded from outside the room.

A gust of wind appeared and pushed the entrance wide open, revealing a blinding light outside. The young man walked out of his room into a large throne room, ornate with several skeletons of various creatures. The walls had murals on it of what seemed to be the same young man and his battles.

A woman with smooth brown skin and short golden hair walked up to him. Other than her well-proportioned body, the other thing that stood out was her four arms. She looked at him with golden eyes, then asked him, “Caelus, something the matter?”

The man spoke with a deep voice, that resonated with his helmet, “Yes. Tell my generals to gather.”

Another figure came up to young man. This time it was a young man with three eyes and a muscular body. He walked via the four spider-like eggs that burst out from his back. He bowed and spoke, “I have gathered all of the soldiers within the star system once you sent the message.”

“En,” then Caelus walked down the throne room.

As these two figures walked behind him, a small fist-sized rock rolled after him and said even without a mouth, “Caelus. You alright?”

A giant dark figure appeared from air and casted a shadow upon the whole throne room. The rock shouted out, “Damn Shadow Ass! I can’t see where I’m even rolling!”

The dark figure shrunk to that of a donkey with a turtle’s shell on its back. Walking on its four legs, it approached the rock and kicked it, flinging the rock back to the other end of the hallway. The donkey brayed and spoke, “Hee-haw! Caelus, tell us what’s going on.”

Caelus stopped to speak, “My best friend was killed by someone named Nan Zhek.”

The four-armed woman spoke out, “Nan Zhek? He’s a Truegod from the Overgod’s Universe. What do you plan on doing?”

“Hmph. He killed Caelus’ best friend. What do you think we’re going to do!? War! I would’ve thought I was your best friend, but we’ll get to that in a more appropriate time.” The rock, having rolled back, exclaimed.

“Ha! Correct! War! I don’t know if you remember him from back then, but it was Lucius,” Caelus said with a somber tone.

“Lucius is dead?” Another figure walked to their group. This figure had the form of a human, but his eyes were pure black. Then his body burst with black fire. After the fire extinguished, it revealed a black armor with spikes all over. The figure then spoke with a cold voice, “Nan Zhek’s as good as dead.”

The rock said, “Oh man. I liked that kid.”

A floating head of a young androgynous looking human appeared as well. Ze had a horn sticking out of the right part of hir forehead. Ze spoke, “I’m afraid you never introduced me to him, Caelus. Nevertheless, we shall celebrate his life with the fireworks of war.” Lightning filled the throne room all focusing on the horn. The lightning then turned into a lightning body and attracted pieces of armor forming under the head. The armor lit up from the energy as if it was running on the electricity.

The donkey then donned leg guards and brayed out, “Whatever you want to do Caelus. We’ll be right there with you.”

Underneath that skull helmet, Caelus smiled, “All of you. Thanks.”

Then they reached the entrance to the palace, revealing that it was on top of the tallest mountain as far as the eye can see. At the entrance is a long and high staircase that trailed all the way down the mountain.

Surrounding the palace was a mountain range, but the tallest of that range was only half the height of the mountain that the palace was on. Soldiers populated the entirety of the mountain range.

The species of the soldiers ranged from a tiny ant all the way to a skyscraper tall bipedal reptilian, who had small wings on its back, difficultly keeping it in the air, and almost every species in between.

When Caelus showed up in his resplendent armor, all of the soldiers yelled out, “Our Lord!”

“My soldiers! Fan the flames of war!”

The initially bright sky, turned even brighter as a purple humanoid appeared. Its purple body, bespeckled with hints of gold, had tentacles for hands. Its face had no nose or mouth, but only dozens of small eyes. The golden hints on its body shined out even brighter, as a golden armor formed on its body fully covering the purple body. At its tow were millions of soldiers, and a voice boomed out, “Golden Immortal General Zet greets his Lord!”

Another voice boomed out as more and more undescribable figures blotted out the bright sky.

"Thunder Immortal General Poria greets her Lord!"

"Cleanliness Immortal General Zaku greets his Lord!"

"False Immortal General 289 Jax greets its Lord!"

The four armed woman had donned a silver armor with dragon head-shaped cestii on each of her hands. She shouted out, “The other generals are on their way!”

All of the soldiers looked up as their eyes turned bloodshot. Caelus shouted out, “Truegod Nan Zhek from the Overgod’s Universe has killed my best friend. My soldiers! Will you follow me on my quest for vengeance?”

All the soldiers on the mountains and in the sky all yelled out, causing the entire lands they were on the shake, “Yes, my Lord!”

There were even some shouts from beyond the lands they were on, as if it they were from outer space.

A scepter formed from air next to Caelus, and he grabbed onto it. He slammed it on the floor, causing the planet they were on started to accelerate forward in a certain direction. However, other planets also joined after them, each of which had uncountably many soldiers cheering forward. Caelus looked directly forward with a look of madness and anticipation.
