《Totem Master: A Spiritual Adventure》Negotiations

Athes pulled out a chair from the table and sat down. “I hear you want to revolutionize farming by using undead. This is a prospect I find most interesting. So, tell me, how would it be done?”

Hethara spoke quietly after he was done speaking, “That’s the third requirement.” Jacob looked to her and nodded before returning his gaze to Athes. “I planned to use skeletons to hoe fields and dig ditches. I do not know if you have Death Knights in this world, or what form they take if you do, but they might be able to serve as cheap heavy lifters. The right undead for the right job, controlled by the right people.”

Athes leaned back in his chair, his aura’s effect slowly diminishing, either thanks to his skill, the god’s own choice, or both. His face was one of contemplation, “You want undead to serve the greater living world. To become commonplace in it. You so filled with life’s fire want undead to become abundant?”

“No. There will only ever be as many as are needed. They would be raised on demand and destroyed as needed.” A memory surfaced in Jacob’s mind, an idea he had heard long ago. No sooner had he remembered; did he see a dark gleam in the Athes’ eyes. “An undead calculator. A computer from your world made from undead. That is most interesting.” Athes smiled with dark glee as he turned to Carthus.

Carthus turned to Athes, and an unspoken conversation spanning only a few second was had. “Your patronage is appreciated. Your order will take some time to process. May I have an item with which to contact you?” Carthus spoke the lines as he had probably done countless times before. Jacob was mildly interested in the outcome of this idea, “Tell me how it works out.”

“Oh, but my dear boy, if you want my help for your little plan, you have to give me more than just the idea. Tic for Tat. I want something and you want something.” Jacob nodded he had a fair point, “Can you reign in every necromancer?” The undead god grew colder as if he had heard a bad joke.

“For what purpose would I do that?” The Undead god said as he leaned forward in his seat, the gaze of death Jacob had felt previously once more falling upon him. However, it was held far less sway than it had when he arrived. “We need them to raise undead. If you can get them to listen, there will be jobs for them. Don’t you think they are tired of running and hiding?” The Vampire gods’ eyes began to turn red, “What would they stand to gain from your little plan?” His voice portrayed not a hint of anger, it was low, and calm. Black orbs began erupting from the undead god covering the room.

Jacob did not flinch, for this was a test he intended to pass. “The necromancers I knew of simply wanted to conduct research, towards one goal or another. Would not they appreciate a paying job. One where they become an invaluable resource. Their safety assure, funds to further their research. Isn’t that a goal worth striving toward?”

For a moment no one moved, no one breathed, all awaited the undead god’s response. Athes smiled his dark smile, “You did not have to sell me on the idea my dear boy, you had to sell them.” He said as he indicated toward the black hovering orbs throughout the room. “Am I to assume that this is every necromancer watching?”

The undead god’s smile grew even wider, “Yes, I was most…persuasive.” Jacob stood and addressed the black orbs, “Are you willing to try? Are you tired of being hunted, years of research gone up in smoke? I will promise you change.”

The world has heard your promise and responds...

Tread carefully my child...

The gods have heard our promise...

Jacobs mind was flooded by notices of his standing with various gods being raised and or lowered. It took him a moment to sort through it all. “My children agree. I will help to organize with the other gods. And in return my children will be unharmed so they may further their works.” Jacob chimed in, “There will be conditions of course. Do not steal the village kids. Only kill in self-defense, so on. I trust you can work out the finer details between the needs of your children and the demands the other gods would require of them.”

Athes simply smiled, “Things are getting most interesting indeed.” The undead god seemed like a giddy child, awaiting a piece of candy. Jacob addressed the undead god, “That’s the problem with everlasting life. What do you do with it?”

Athes froze for a moment, then turned to Jacob, “You even understand my plight. The plight of many of my children.” He said as he waved his hand outward once more indicating toward the black orbs, this time however, a third of them turned grey. “I assume those are the orbs belonging to individuals who have already found immortality in one form or another?” A simple nod from the god sufficed.

Athes stood up from his chair, bid farewell, and left out the front door. The room was silent for a moment before Jacob spoke up, “I’m sorry Carthus it appears we got sidetracked. Hello, I would like to purchase some equipment.”
