《I Am The GUIDE》[Vol.1] 0021: Middle Of The Night (2)

'Though I want to learn this mana or energy immediately. I want to focus on this first.'
To focus on his job. He does not want to add more problems at the moment.
Reece has to finish their preparation and escapes the tribe first. So after that, he could freely learn magic or energy or whatever.
'Anyway, these emergency alarms and all is indeed suspicious.'
Where did the birds get it if it is not from the squirrels?
'Even that bluebird has one.'
The token from earlier.
Obviously, it is a device created with energy.
Reece manages to take a glimpse of the token with weird engraves in it. Where did he get those?
[I cannot say anything but I guarantee he is the most loyal to 'Hugh Ibrahim.']
'If you say so.'
Reece shrugged and immediately dismissed the topic. He starts to stares at the spheres and was in awe of how beautifully made the engraves are.
The engraves do not make any sense to someone without knowledge of ancient letters and symbols. However, those who always deal with them could probably understand something behind the engraves.
'What do these engraves mean?'
[I do not know. I need some time to analyst it first before figuring it out. Though I could say it is nothing serious.]
Daniel does know so Reece rephrases his question.
'What do these engraves symbolize?'
[The 'engraves' symbolize that this wooden sphere is created with 'energy.' Most devices with energy has these engraves as it serves as the 'spell.']
A chant is needed to activate a magic spell. This means that the engraves are spells written in some kind of ancient or weird language or symbol for no one to recognize and so it can activate itself when triggered.
It also means that the creator of these emergency alarms and the token know how energy is used. The reason why Daniel said this cannot be made by someone without knowledge of energy.
'I see. I thought it is some sort of ancient thingy.'
Like an ancient relic or artifact found underground, in ruins, and tombs.
Reece touches the huge wooden sphere and he slightly felt the wave mana in it.
'Wow... that was weird. Yet, nostalgic.'
The mana's wave was warm and it feels good. Reece for a second thought it was his mother's gentle touch.
'How do we broke this? Wait, no. How do we not make it work? I wanna steal it afterward.'
It has energy, so Reece wanted to research it with Daniel. It will be a waste to throw it away without knowing how it worked and how it was made. The carvings also, he wanted to learn what it means.

[I will probably be doing all the work.]
Daniel grumbled.
'Of course not. You will teach me about 'energy' so we can do it together.'
Reece was about to remove his hand from the sphere when Daniel stops him from doing so.
[Do not remove your hand. I will start blocking the connection now.]
'Connection?'
[Yes. This sphere is connected to the emergency alarm.]
'Which means you have already found the location of the emergency alarm?'
[Indeed. I have the emergency alarm that is connected to this trigger button.]
'Great news. But why are we blocking it and not dismantling it?'
[Dismantling the connection of this trigger button to the alarm means I have to remove the 'trigger.' By doing so, I will have to completely break the configuration and will need some time to develop it again. However, blocking the connection for a certain amount of time will not receive any damage.]
'Oh...'
[You want it undamaged, is that right?]
'You are impressive! Thanks a lot for considering my request. It was the first without complaint.'
[... You are welcome.]
Daniel felt wrong for some reason.
'Explain to me in detail once we are done. I could not comprehend everything you said.'
It is quite hard for Reece to understand something without an example. Or at least a video clip or a presentation showing how something is done.
'I am quite slow.'
[Understood.]
Reece stops talking now as he watched what was happening with his hand. Something was glowing brightly in his palm that touches the wooden sphere. It took a full minute before the light was gone.
[Report. I am done.]
'Huh? That was it?'
[Yes.]
Reece removes his hand as he began to smile.
'Good job. But what did you do? I did not feel anything.'
Aside from the light on his hand, he definitely feels nothing. As in nothing. He should at least feel that there is something even a bit as he does wonders with his hands.
[I was using my ability and not yours. Which is why.]
'... Yours?'
He was shocked. Does Daniel have more hidden abilities? Reece will not be surprised if he did.
'I still want to know how you did it.'
[Very well. I will show it to you after we are done here. We need to go now and cut all the connections before the spell blockage I use to the trigger is completely removed. The emergency alarms will sound and alert everyone at that moment.]
Reece has doubts so he asks.
'Exactly what is the time limit?'

Although he said he will start to trust Daniels's decisions, Reece could not trust him in these types of things. This is different in decision-making and providing pieces of information.
[A week.]
'As I thought.'
Not immediately but an entire week... That is more than enough actually, but Daniel still wants him to hurry over and get everything done tonight.
Reece snorted but did not complain as he was already expecting that.
'Well, I don't mind.'
In truth, he also likes to get everything done faster.
He now began to flap his tiny wings to fly up and is ready for their next destination.
'Okay. Where are we going next?'
[I know where all the buttons are, let us go see them first.]
'Sure.'
Reece left the house and go to where Daniel has told him to. Obviously, it is the house painted in red next to the chief's house.
While flying stealthily, Daniel began to converse with Reece.
[Each trigger button has a specific connection to the bird tribes within the forest. And I also found something suspicious—]
Reece sighs loudly, cutting Daniel.
He had discovered another useless thing that he will probably regret his whole life once he got involve.
'Ha! I think I have an idea what you have found out.'
It is probably something Reece would not fancy to know. Absolutely. Never want to know.
[Yes. One of the alarms, specifically this wooden sphere, is actually connected to another tribe and not any of the bird tribes.]
'Which... tribe... is it?'
He slowly but cautiously asks with shaking hands and heart beating loudly he could hear it inside his head.
[Take note. The Snake Tribe.]
'... What the fuck?'
Isn't the bird tribes and the snake tribe enemy?
Why would they connect an emergency alarm calling for 'help' to an enemy?
That is total nonsense.
Because if they are real enemies, the snakes will probably take this as a chance to strike the birds while they are weakened or simply just sit back to watch the birds getting annihilate.
'What the hell is this? This...! This scary feeling...!?'
The scary feeling of getting involved in 'something' bigger. It was a truly, truly scary feeling that Reece wants to avoid at all costs.
'I'm scared!'
He was scared. Reece was panicking inside.
[Calm down. It seems—]
'Don't talk to me.'
Reece was rubbing his arms from the chills he felt as he glared at nowhere.
Not wanting to hear more, he absently mindedly barged into the red-painted house. There was also a curtain made of fur covering the house hollow but Reece gets past them easily.
"—Why are they are going to send the weak for such an important task? Will this not get dangerous if this leaks out?"
Reece halted and immediately hides in a torch just beside the door hollow after hearing someone's voice.
The voice was deep, it belongs to an old geezer. Though you could barely tell he was really old as his appearance was that of a middle-aged man. But very handsome and the most muscular out of the three.
Currently, there are three birds inside. Two bluebirds and one redbird.
The three of them are gigantic at 13 to 16 meters in height, but the room was also large enough that the birds look like they have normal human height.
'An elder bird, it seems.'
Only members of the elders are allowed in the red house after all. It is quite easy to guess who is who.
'Bluebirds truly are respected.'
It seems most of the elders are bluebirds. The reason everyone has a high expectation of Azure as a child, which ends up as a disappointment.
"It is the best way considering we could not reveal our connection to the other bird tribe. Some of their warriors are coming too, is that right?"
Another elder bluebird said.
This one looks like a strict father as all his features are sharp, the same as the bluebird Azure, unlike the other bluebird inside the room with a gentle atmosphere around him.
"That is right."
It was the redbird that speaks this time.
The bird, however, happens to have quite an odd face to the rest of the tribe members.
Why?
Because he looks like an 8-year-old child—if we remove the red feathers.
Big crimson eyes, small physics, and chubby cheeks—a very cute bird indeed. Truly not befitting looks for the notable color of his red feathers.
Reece coughed as he was lost to the adorable redbird's cuteness.
'There is a saying to not judge one by their cover.'
However, just like most birds, the three birds also do not have hair and body hair and instead have feathers with their respective colors. The only difference is that they wear fully covered clothing, despite their feathers hiding their private parts.
Reece continued to listen to the conversation, despite stopping himself multiple times. It is not really good to pry into other people's businesses.
"I suggest we hire the cayotes from the Canine Tribes to avoid any leak-outs."
Said the old geezer bluebird.
Cayotes.
They are similar to wolves but smaller. However, their specialty is their high intelligence, wiliness, cunningness, and sneakiness.

The Wolf Saga, Wolf that Devours Empires
The Empire of Human is about to enter a turbulent era. A World Power has fallen. But mere hours after dying, he is reborn as a half-human, half-elf boy named Wolf. The story follows this odd boy as he grows up, his relationship with his father and those around him, his lack of common sense from being raised in the wilderness, and his desire for revenge. Witness Wolf's journey as he aspires to climb to the peak of the world to unravel its mysteries, and as he tries to figure out why it’s wrong to decapitate a street thug when the man tries to mug you. “I mean, the man literally said ‘Money or life,’ so what’s the big deal?” Releases Mon/Wen/Fri. (GMT-ish) Trigger warning. The Wolf Saga may not be suited for you if any of the following disturbs you: - The story will have fighting and killing. The gore will not be explicit, but there will be descriptions such as "head burst like a melon", "instantly turned to cinders", "blood splashed/fountained" etc. Most of the violence will be performed by the protagonist, some of it before he reaches his teens. If such scenes bother you, you should probably give Wolf a pass. - The story will have sexual content. It's there for a reason. Once again, these scenes will not be explicit. Genitals will be mentioned sometimes, but never described in detail. Nude bodies will be described in passing, without too many specific details. If you're afraid of nipples, you should probably give Wolf a pass. - The story will have a decent amount of cursing. If you haven't given up by now, this is unlikely to bother you. Still, I believe I should forewarn you that a number of curse words will be making appearance from time to time. - The story will have no small amount of loss for the main character. If you enjoy novels in which everything is fine, the protagonist makes it at the last moment and saves the day... This is not such a story. Life happens. As a reader, I'm annoyed with heroes making it in the nick of time, so for the sake of fairness I used dice on a number of occasions, making do with the result. Sometimes it was anticlimactic, sometimes it was tragic and it led to the story you see before you. Dedication: This story is written for Tired Mom and Wolf, whose arrival the rest of the pack is eagerly awaiting. Thanks: I would like to thank Tired Mom for her proofreading and encouragement over the years. I would like to thank you, Dear Reader, for taking the time to read this big pile of words.
