《The Healer chronicles of the crystal bearer from another world》Chapter 3: The Farm

So in the end we had to take Kira with us, Torfick was against the idea but seeing her clutching my arm with her hands made him give up in the end.
She seemed attached to me in a weird way, like when a baby chick hatches from an egg and you are the first person it sees will make it follow you wherever you go.
Wait? Does this make me more like a mother to her then? No way!
Sigh
We went into our destination which was a day long trip, the farm we are going to is to the north of the town we are staying in currently, according to Torfick there is some monsters who takes the mountains just a little north to there as their home, which has been attacking the farm and steeling some of the sheeps that are being raised there.
It seems an easy extermination job that we can finish in a day.
We arrived at our destination just before the sunset and the owner of the farm welcomed us quite happy that someone was finally going to help him get rid of the monsters attacking his cattle.
He showed us to the place where the animals been attacked and Madd being our tracker looked around the place for any left behind marks that can help us with the job, Diana also started scanning the place for any traces she can find.
In conclusion we found out that there is around 5 wulfer monsters who have been attacking the place, and according to the farmer they have been at it for 2 weeks now, half of his cattle has been killed by them.
The wulfers are monsters that hunt in packs and bring their hunts back to their group, so we can assume there is even more. They are easy to handle, even with a group of 10 to 15 we can still handle them easily With Diana's flame spells.
"Well, we set camp near the farm tonight and stake out the place, if they attack tonight we kill them and we are done with part of the problem, if we do or if we don't either way we start tracing them to where they came from and attack the group tomorrow morning" we all agree to Torfick plan and start setting our camp.
We usually take turns in sleeping, me and Diana sleep in our carriage while Torfick and Madd settle for a night under the stars. Tonight i am out of the watch out duty and i have only kira to take care of.
Well, she is a handful all right, i just hope she doesn't go into a panic attack here and scare the wulfers away, it would be ideal if we can finish them as soon as possible.

After dinner we all took our places, me, Diana and kira went to the carriage to sleep, while Madd was the first to take the watch duty and Torfick found a tree to sleep under.
Our carriage was too small for 3 grown persons to sleep side by side comfortably, and me being in the middle definitely was the worst and it's too hot too *cries internally*
"Can i hold your hand?"
I looked to my side where kira was laying and she had her usual lifeless look in her eyes.
"I don't mind" she might be scared, i don't think holding hands will make the situation feel anymore hotter than it already is.
I picked up her hand and held it in mine, i used to do this with Diana back in the day.
"Riya?"
"Huh?"
"It hurts"
She clutched her chest and I could see she was in pain, I couldn't sense the source of her pain, as a healer I should have.
"What? Is it another panic attack? Get over with it before i go to sleep, I don't want to wake up before my watch duty and lose sleep because of it" Diana wrestled behind me and i sat up.
"What is wrong?" I asked kira concerned.
"Ouch.. it hurts so much!" Is it that thing inside of her? Diana said it blocks her scanning spell, could it block my healer senses too.
Just then I heard howling voices all around us, and Madd starting shouting "they are here, there is too many"
"Stay here, i will go check things out" Diana jumped out of the carriage and left us behind.
"What the hell?" [Flame thrower] i could hear them starting to battle the monsters, i tried peeking behind the clothes that was serving as a door to our carriage back and what i saw really shocked me.
It wasn't just one pack of wulfers, it was the whole damn species.. I can't count how many of them are out there.
Madd is surrounded by five of them, Torfick is killing them with his sword right and left and they are still jumping at him.
Diana managed to make a flame circle that she got around 20 trapped inside of it.
Oh shit.
There is few of them running towards us, i went back to kira who was still in pain, i picked her up and we jumped to the roof of the carriage going through the front, i hope they can't reach us here.
I picked few of my potions that i have been making and threw some poisons at them. The vial broke under their feet and a purple mist started spreading where they were.

Couple of them fell to the ground struggling, and the rest stepped back from it.
This poison doesn't kill but it will make them stay back for a while.
I looked back at kira and she was still in pain, damn it. What is wrong with her? Seriously this is not the time or place for this. And I can't even sense her pain to heal her. Should i put her into sleep?
"RIYA!" Madd shouted while he was holding his hand, he is bleeding.
"Stay here." After telling kira that; I stepped down to meet Madd and started healing him.
"What happened, where did all of these come from?"
"I don't know, this doesn't make any sense, i have never seen so many wulfers in one place... thanks Riya!" Just as soon as i finished healing him he went back fighting more wulfers.
I went back to Kira on the roof of the carriage and sat beside her.
"Wolves?"
Huh? What is wolves?
"You mean the wulfers? Yeah.. there is just so many of them.. how is your pain?"
"It still hurts.."
[heal]
I looked at her to see if it worked but as I suspected it didn't, she still looked in pain, i'm sure it's because of whatever that thing is that is inside of her.
"THE FARM HOUSE!" Torfick shouted and i saw another pack of wulfers just busting the door open and entering the house.
Oh god no!
Just when Torfick and the others managed to fight their way and reach the house it was just too late.
The whole family was killed, the farmer was holding a pitch fork trying to protect his wife and three kids.
He was laying on the floor with a big wound on his side.
His wife hugging the left over of her 3 years old son was headless and the two other kids .. i can't even describe it.
I came running to the house hoping I could help, but I can't do much with this, this is just so cruel, we came here to help them get rid of the monsters attacking their animals.. and we couldn't even protect them.
I honestly can't feel sad about this, as a healer i have seen much curler fates than this, they have at least died together, i might sound heartless but i'm just trying to look at the positives in all of this.
Diana managed to burn every last one of the monsters in the end. Torfick and Madd also killed way many of them than they have ever killed in their lives.
Kira's pain have subsided and I don't even know what it caused it, like what the hell is with that timing.. oh well, forget it. I'm just too tired right now to think of anything.
We have to go back and report this to the guild branch back in town.
It was almost dawn when all of this was done and finished. After we buried the farmer family we got ready to go back, none of us had any sleep last night so we all were so tired and out of it.
Diana was basically begging me to just try and go to sleep, i know how caring she can be despite her harsh comments sometimes. I just can't for the life of me stop my brain from thinking of what has happened, but in the same way I can't process it at all.
Kira gave up resisting the urge to sleep half way and now she is resting her head on my shoulder.
"This reminds me of you just after your mother has passed away!" Diana commented pointing at kira.
"No way, I wasn't this attached to you back then"
"Are you kidding, you were basically my shadow, I couldn't even take a dump in peace" I heard Torfick sigh outside after hearing diana say that, i'm sure something broke in his heart just now, i think i felt it, While Madd started laughing beside him.
I looked at kira beside me and back at Diana.
"I think she is more broken than i was back then!"
"Well, you didn't have it easy back then too, but yeah, you had me to take care of you" Diana grinned at me.
Dianna is 4 years older than me, she has been like a big sister to me my whole life, and she was even closer after i have lost my mother.
"Hey, I didn't mean for you to feel sad" she said that and i noticed my eyes started to be foggy. I wiped them with my sleeve and laughed it off. I could see Diana's sad smile but she quickly changed the topic. It's not something i like to remember after all, and she knows that.

However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
