《The Demon Child - Awakening》Chapter 19 - Shock

"What do you mean you're only "half-demon"? I won't fall for that bullshit. Either you're a demon, or you're a human! So which one are you?" Astaroth questioned me.

"Jododam informed me like this, he told me my body is human, but my soul is that of a demon, although I'm not sure if that still applies in this world, maybe it's the opposite here," I replied, with my left hand on my chin.

"Ok prove it! During classes, we learned that humans have incarnate weapons instead of demon abilities, so show us your incarnate weapon!"

"...Very well, 'oh great weapon, the incarnation of my soul, show yourself and aid my fight!"

A blinding light appeared in front of me, and after it faded, I held a bright red dagger in my hand. It had not engravings and fitted perfectly in my right hand as all incarnate weapons should.

"So it's true! You are only half-demon," Xirax said in amazement, "I can't believe I'm friends with someone so unique!" She squealed.

"It is unique," Abatson added, "Even rarer than me,"

"I don't know how or why I'm only half-demon, but I've gotten used to my heritage," I said while twirling the blade in my hand.

"Tch, so what about it, what's your special demon ability then?" Astaroth lashed out, already red in the fac.e

"If I remember correctly, I can activate it like this.

I stabbed my left hand with the knife I had summoned and watched the blood pour out of the wound onto the floor. As I watched my blood make a puddle, I had realised I had forgotten one crucial detail about my ability. I had to visualise or wish what I wanted the sacrifice to achieve. I quickly thought that I wanted my body to mimic Astaroth's appearance, to annoy him more.

The second I had that thought, the blood rose back up onto my body, and I could feel my body morphing slowly into something else. Everywhere the blood touched it stung for a moment, before being numbed.

Once the transformation was complete, the blood then absorbed itself back into my skin, and I stood before them. I then noticed that I was now the same height as Astaroth. Looking behind me, I saw that even my tail had been transformed from its long dark blue shape into a short black tail.

"Wow. So this is the power of blood sacrifice. Interestingly, you can copy Astaroth's appearance," Lucyfer said with a shocked tone.

"I'm surprised myself really that I could do that. Although I probably won't do that often." I replied, holding my hand in pain, as it quickly healed.

"So that's your demon ability, what's your soul ability then!?" Astaroth then lashed out at me.

"To be honest, I don't have a clue of what my soul ability is," I replied softly.

"Bullcrap, if you have a demon ability, then you have a soul ability, so what is it?"

"I don't know! I've tried, I can't activate, I'm not sure what's wrong with me, but I can't! I'm sure you had some time figuring out what it was, and now it's my time!" Hearing that, everyone other than Astaroth agreed.

"Don't care. Do it now, or I'll make you activate it." He threatened me, rolling both his hands into fists.

Astaroth did not wait; he came at me with a right hook that I dodged. Seeing this opportunity, I stabbed him with my knife in his armpit, blood spurting everywhere. I then thought of controlling his mind, using his blood as the sacrifice to do so. As Astaroth's fists started to slow on impact as he was punching my back, I knew that my wish was almost complete. When Astaroth stopped struggling altogether, I pulled out the dagger, and we stood face to face.

"Now then. Will you listen now?" I questioned Astaroth.

"Screw you, don't act dumb, I know you have your soul ability, so just show it!" Astaroth lashed out.

"It seems that my spell didn't work completely,"

"What do you mean?!"

"Well, I thought of controlling your mind, and I asked you to understand,"

"Then what happened instead!"

"I don't know."

I shrugged my shoulders, Astaroth repeating the movement. Seeing this, I quickly connected the dots and understood what was happening.

"I see. So that's what happened instead," I sighed to myself.

"What!" Astaroth unsurprisingly yelled at me.

"Instead of controlling your mind, I gained control of your movements,"

"Liar, where's your proof!"

I slowly raised my left hand and bit my thumb, as I watched Astaroth do the same. I looked straight into his eyes, to see fear, fear that I could control his movements, and therefore, his life. To check again, I then stabbed myself with my incarnate knife just to make sure nothing else was connected. Astaroth mimicked my actions, but he had no injuries.

I released Astaroth of my clutches, and my wound quickly healed. I walked up to him and placed my left hand on his right shoulder, whispering in his ear.

"You now see where you're at. Your life is in my hands," I calmly said at Astaroth.

"Tch, fine go on,", He was trying to mask his fear.

"I can't activate my soul ability. I don't even know what it is, so stop pestering me. I've already broken my spell, and I hope we can all get along."

"...Dammit, fine,"

"Now that we are all introduced, Lucyfer, tell me the rules of the group," I panted.

"Alright. This tent is now your home in Antral. You'll be sleeping in the blue hammock, and any personal items you can put in the spot underneath," Lucyfer explained to me while pointing at the blue hammock.

"Ok, but now I'm tired,"

"You're going to bed already?"

"Why not, this is now my home isn't it,"

"It is,"

"So, now I'm tired, and I need to rest,"

"Just letting you know, Dye, you'll never be like Kappa," Astaroth scowled at me.

I threw my dagger at Astaroth, which scratched his cheek as it flew past his face. I then gave him a death stare and spoke:

"Listen up Astaroth, never call me Dye, only people I truly hate can give me that name, and second of all, I'm fine with being second to Kappa, but never call me Dye again," I scowled at Astaroth.

I then rested on my hammock and closed my eyes, waiting for sleep.

"One-moment Dyestral," Lucyfer commanded me.

"What is it," I said with an annoyed tone.

"You need a demon identity, a name while you are in Antral any Ideas?"

"...Dynestar,"

"You sure about that, you can never go back from it?"

"I'm fine with it, it gives me fond memories," I said, as a moment from my childhood rushed into my head.

"Alright it's decided, in Antral, you'll be known as Dynestar,"

"Understood, now let me get some rest,"

"Alright, goodnight,"

"Yeah, goodnight,"

I curled my tail under my hammock and settled in ready for the darkness to take me, wondering where would pop up today. I woke up on the altar where the demon portal had appeared and realised where I was. I was back home.

Whenever I fall asleep, I am afraid that I will never wake up. A sky shimmering with crimson red, the sea dazzling like scales, wind burning like flames. Whenever I fall asleep, I am in a different place in a different world, surrounded by creatures unknown to man. The only thing that gets me awake from the nightmare is when I die.

My dream world was Antral.
