《The Demon Child - Awakening》Chapter 6 - The Celebration

When I got home, I decided to try out my new power of ice. Unlike my source of wind which was below average, my ice source seems to above average, which was good news. After I got used to my new powers, I went inside for dinner. As I went to get my dinner, which was at a table in the kitchen, I was wondering what it was.
Every time I walk into the kitchen, it's some sort of new dish my mum is cooking up. Sometimes you think the food was served raw, although I would hope it would be something good today. As I went into the kitchen, I see that my mom has made some sort of broth with vegetables.
"It's the only recipe I perfected, so enjoy," My mum chirped, a smile on her face.
"Thanks, Mum." I replied with.
I took a sip of the broth and immediately began to devour it. After I finished the food, I looked at my mum to see that she was done herself. As much as I was surprised, but I could understand that the soup was delicious not to. After my mum was done with her bowl, she began to talk to me.
"It's perfect that you have a new source, what do you think Dyne?" My mum asked me.
"I think it will help me with my school; an example would my source practice" I replied with.
"Hope so; my father had an ice source as well, it's a power unmatched, looks like I do see a bit of me in you now, although he originally had his water source, which turned into his ice source,"
It was nice to know that I was a bit like my mother now with my new source. With Ren appearing as a nice person, as well as duelling with Frederick, I hoped that my luck today would continue until tomorrow... except it didn't.

"Dyne," My mom yelled at me, as I was drifting off.
"Yes, mother?" I answered. "Sorry I was spacing out,"
"You're not allowed to go anywhere else except school and home for a week because of that fight with Frederick, the only reason it isn't a month is that you got a new source,"
"What?"
"You heard me, now either work on your source outside or go to bed!"
"I obeyed your orders, and I came back before dusk, I didn't dally and focused on my source when I got home, so why am I being punished?" I became angry, and I noticed that the pot filled with the soup began to stop steaming.
"Internal bruising, which even the headmaster had trouble healing, and a scorched scar permanently on your abdomen, I don't care what you have to say, it's time to go,"
"But-"
"NO, BUTS!!! To your room now!"
"..." I kicked the pot over, the rest of the soup spilling into icy chunks, as I drifted towards my room,"
"Dyne... Dyne!"
I didn't hear her call the third time, over the massive bang which I made with the door. I trampled further into my room angrily and laid down on my bed. I believed at the time that it was unfair, but I did come around to see why she was punishing me. I looked around my room and saw that my curtains were still opened, which gave me an idea.
I went to my dressing closet to get a long-sleeved shirt and put it on. Afterwards, I went through my window and climbed the roof to look at the stars. After my small fit, I just wanted to calm down. I sat down almost at the highest point of the roof and looked up, seeing that it was a clear night, and the stars were perfect. However, my alone time didn't last long.

"Goodnight for stargazing, isn't it?" A familiar voice behind spoke.
I turned around to see Dreansel the spirit standing on the top of the roof. I was wondering what trick's he'll pull on me now that I'm even more powerful. To be honest, I still owe him a thank you for helping me when I was fighting with Frederick.
"Thanks with the help in the fight against Frederick," I whispered to Dreansel.
"I should be thanking you, and why are we whispering." Dreansel sarcastically whispered back.
"Because my mom is pissed and she wants me in bed,"
"Oh, well, better make this quick, I think Fred didn't pay up."
Suddenly Dreansel threw me a small pouch which made a jingle sound when it landed in my hands. I open the bag to see that there were five silver rumes and one gold rume.
"The betting money that Frederick would give me after the fight, but didn't it end in a draw?" I asked Dreansel.
"What do you think, I stole it from Fredericks pocket, the gold rume is my gratitude for you winning," Dreansel responded with a smirk while bowing.
I looked down and was full of joy to see that Dreansel acknowledged my fight, but the gold rume seemed way too much for me.
"Th-Th-thanks D-D-Dreansel." I stuttered.
I look up to see that Dreansel disappeared into the dead of night. I was quite happy to find that I had a tiny fortune. I went back into my room to go to sleep, placing the pouch underneath my pillow. After a while of pitch black, I woke up in a forest full of red trees.
I looked around to see where Ren was; I saw a black robe at the corner of my eye. My mother was underneath a fallen tree. I believe it was Ren because I was quite pissed at my mother when she punished me. I pull Ren out of the trees then I put his head on my lap.
"Dyne, wake up, you're in danger" Ren wheezed out, him coughing up blood.
"Why am I in danger?" I asked Ren.
"Something... hurt me, and is now coming for you, someone wants you, I don't know why,"
As I was shocked to find out someone was going to kill me, I wonder why he also went for Ren. Before I could finish my thought, I was awoken from my sleep by a woman's scream. I run downstairs to see that my mom had collapsed in a puddle of blood, and something was beside her, now looking at me.

Tower of Somnus
When humanity first encountered alien life, we were judged and found wanting. The Galactic Consensus interviewed our leaders and subjected us to a battery of psychological tests to determine our progress as a society. They found us to be selfish, wasteful, impulsive, and boorish neighbors. Earth was blockaded and our collective encounter with our extrasolar neighbors rapidly faded from memory. All they left behind was a hypercomm relay and a handful of subscriptions to a massively multiplayer game that participants played in their sleep. The Consensus said that it would let us interact with our neighbors in a controlled setting. That it would teach us to be better members of the galactic community. The megacorporations that controlled Earth ignored the game until they learned that the powers earned from clearing dungeons were just as real when day broke. Magic, supernatural abilities and rumors exploded from nothing and a subscription to The Tower of Somnus became a status symbol. Katherine ‘Kat’ Debs doesn’t have much, but it could be worse. Born in an arcology, she was assigned a job in the megacorporation that raised her almost as soon as she could work. Despite the stability of her corporate life, she wanted something more. He slowly backs up until his back is against the wall like my own, "You're..my neighbor?" He points to my door and I nod my head quickly. He hums softly, "You been here a while?" He asks and I nod my head once again. He chuckles, "Ya head hurt?" I nod again but stop as he laughs softly, "I-I mean.. no.. it doesn't." My cheeks burn red as I look at my shoes, "I-It doesn't hurt.." I repeat like a dummy and listen to him clear his throat, "So do you actually live there or was it bull?" He teased, making a giggle slip past my lips. I look away to the floor again, "I-I like big shirts... a lot." I mumble softly and he nods his head, "Hol' up." He puts his box down before walking over to one of the grey bins. I nosily watch as he pulls out a big grey sweatshirt, "Here." He holds it out for me to take and I stare at him with wide eyes, "F-For me?" I hesitantly grab the soft fabric as he chuckles, "Nah for ya mom." I puff my cheeks a little and give him a small glare, "Hush." He leans back against the wall and shakes his head, "It's cold out.
