《Jupiter's Rising》Chapter 22 – Learning with abuse

I wake up from my tear filled sleep, as I once again look around to notice this decrepit cabin and that slightly tanned skinned person cooking some more meat from his recently captured nai’s. I’ve been living here for almost a week now and I seem to be held hostage for the stupidest reason ever. If he just wanted to learn the language he could of just came to the village and we could have had one of the village teacher’s help him but he was adamant about not letting me leave.
I had tried escaping three times this past week but he somehow managed to always notice whenever I was about to leave and then that weird black fire would pop out of his hand while he just stared at me. God damn freak!
I felt so stupid looking back, I just wanted to go hunt some nai’s with my friend Bor but because of my stupidity I managed to convince Bor to go out deeper into the forest… sigh. If it wasn’t for me, we wouldn’t have gotten ambushed by those seven nai’s and…”*sniffle* he… Bor, I am so sorry.”
Now I am stuck with this fool, who kept pointing at things everywhere in the cabin while expecting me to say its name. It took me a while to understand what he wanted but eventually I just started to do what he wanted as at least I might be able to communicate with him after this. He turned out to be smart enough for my efforts to not have been wasted though he does have that weird habit of mumbling to himself in whatever language he knows.
The first day, I taught him how to say the words of everything in the cabin and nai’s and bogles. They’re the only creatures he seems to catch but I do have to give it to him that he found out how to make some decent meat skewers with them, nothing that the village cooks couldn’t do better but at least I wasn’t starving and it was edible.
I noticed he was catching on as the second day he started trying to talk to me, well as good as talking with someone who only knows a couple dozen words would be. I started trying to explain different things from the forest, like trees, branches, leaves, colors, and what we called dirt and the sky. It was annoying but at least I wasn’t being tortured or anything. ‘I miss the village. Sigh.’ I couldn’t help but think. It was my first time being more than a few hours from the village and don’t even know if they are looking for me, though they probably aren’t. I wasn’t the most “loveable” kid there. I was an orphan so didn’t really have anyone to look after me except the few old folk who would spare a piece of their garden fruits. Theft wasn’t an option in a village with less than a few hundred people so I had to work for the farmers and do odd jobs but I really disliked a lot of the people there but still, it was home.

Back to this fool, he started getting mad at me when I just stopped at explaining the names of certain things and wanted me to actually start speaking sentences but went about doing the dumbest looking hand signs and noises to get that thought across which were seriously embarrassing if anyone saw us, he seemed to know which is why I could feel he was pissed and upset whenever he had to ask for something new from me.
Oh, don’t even get me started on what started happening after the third day. Bastard starting drawing and asking for information on random crap, he burnt a patch of grass near the cabin into ash and started using a stick to draw different things that he wanted to know and as always got pissed when I only answered with one or two words so I started just describing whatever the hell he wanted. I thought of just messing with him and teaching him all the wrong things but if even I can’t understand him, I doubt my situation would get better any time soon so I restrained those impulses. Him trying to make me understand that he wanted to know the difference between a group and people was oh so fucking hard. I swear, I feel like crying at the type of crap this fool questions me on. This is by far the worst three days I have ever spent my life. Getting mocked by the village guards is better than spending another minute with this idiot.
Though at least the fool knows how to learn otherwise I would of probably just accepted his black ball of death to my face to end my misery sooner than later. Eventually he started getting the hang of things and was able to pronounce words properly and form somewhat coherent sentences. I was finally able to speak to the damn idiot but it still took me a while to get him to understand, things like “him”, “her”,”question”, “you” but eventually he seemed to just pick up what I was saying by context which made the last three days a lot better or at least bearable.
……………………..
This kid’s a fucking idiot. I could of picked up anybody, anybody, yet I end up with probably one of the stupidest one’s on this goddamn planet.
The idiot took so long to understand how to explain simple gestures and objects before he finally got the hang of answering my questions. The little shit is probably the dumbest one of his so called village. No wonder no one even came remotely close to finding us the last seven days, no one probably even went out to look for the little shit. Arghhh!
I fucking hate shitty kids, he looks 20 but is probably 16 or something. Fucking useless shit. Hardly knew anything beyond what his village is called and that he lives on the land called Aromt which he says where we are currently but doesn’t know if that’s the worlds name, the continent or anything else. His village is actually just a few kilometers south-west situated practically in the middle of fucking nowhere. I needed a map but the kid said only the village “leaders” have that. Knowing the level of this kid’s intelligence, I already assumed the whole village is filled with idiots of his level.

“Phoenix, how we doing on the language transfer?” I asked mentally as I didn’t want the kid to keep giving me those stupid looks of disdain as if I’m the fucking idiot in the group. I just didn’t want to show that I had a slime in my head and be considered even weirder.
“It’s mostly done. We have a good basic level understanding of the language and Rikurn at least knew what some of the herbs in the notebook was so I managed to get a basic translation of words going but we should probably visit his village at some point to get books and maybe speak to someone who might know more.” It explained.
“Thanks Phoenix, I might just set the kid loose after today as I still want to gather some more materials, and visit that cavern the kid uses with his buddy near the village. We might be able to get a little stronger before we end up getting arrested by these fools.” I hated this kid, the dumb looks he gave me, the shitty explanations and everything else! If it weren’t for Phoenix having godly learning abilities I probably would of never learned more than the names of goblizards and foxhorns being bogles and nais. The stupid brat even got one of his only friends killed fucking around the woods, I mean why rush out into the clearly dangerous woods with a dagger and a buddy and no experience whatsoever to killed by a bunch of foxhorns…nais. God I won’t get used to that. ‘I’m keeping my naming of those things, I’ll just use it when “others” are around.’ So I thought. Obviously, I was in a similar boat earlier but I at least was able to get stronger by absorbing crap around me so it’s not like I was utterly weak and Phoenix could always throw a fireball or two.
Luckily alongside the godly learning abilities of Phoenix, it had a cool way of allowing a transfer of information between us so that I could learn the language at the same speed Phoenix does. It’s not some all-purpose cheat skill as I get major headaches from the transfer but at least the kid explained that this is the universal language so I won’t be stuck having to learn 50 new ways of saying “hello” , “goodbye” and “fuck off”.
After having gotten the hang of the language I was able to start asking questions about where Rikurn came from, what happened, where we are, general info about his village and all that but I wasn’t really happy.
I was the incarnation of anti-social, so what if I am on a new world? Doesn’t mean people are going to be that different, especially after Rikurn explained how the village works and how it’s quite similar to some half modern/half tribal society and the social skills of these guys were basically 75-90% similar to Earth, humanoids seem to just be spread out in the universe with bullshit emotions, bullshit judgment on good and evil and more crap that I hated about society. Luckily, I wasn’t an idiot at social interactions, I just hated having them.
Oh god, imagine nobility existed on this place, I’d hate to have some pompous bitch come up to me and try to snatch my fictitious gorgeous woman, I’d beat the shit out of him with verbal abuses and then set off to ruin his life so that none of that corny “You won’t see the last of me” bit play out, read way too many scenarios where the last fool you somehow provoke by being blindly arrogant about your prowess lead to a group of 50 guards and assassins set out to ruin your life, capture you, rape your girl, stick a pike up your ass and torture you at that nobles expense and joy. I was anti-social on Earth for the social norms and crap about how to live your life to fit in BS, now that I am in some half modern/ half kingdom style crap, I am guaranteed to hate 90% of the population.
‘Deep breaths, Jupiter. Deeeeeep Breaths!’ I sighed mentally as it seems I was a little more than ticked off at how annoyed I was at this kid’s ability to teach someone. Half the time I thought he was messing with me or playing dumb only to learn the kid was genuinely dumb as a rock. Even Phoenix noted after we got a hang of the words that the kids language seems poor but I don’t know if Phoenix had a solid argument for that or just didn’t like the kid to make me happy.
