I woke up to a blazing sun, with an announcer in the town square.
“Calling all available soldiers for service! The South is coming! Calling anyone to help defend!”
“Come on Snow, we have to get home before the curfew!” calls out my brother.
“Coming!” I shout back.
When we arrive home, my mother is crying and my father is putting on armour.
“I’m off to fight. Stay safe!”
“Newspaper!” shouts the delivery man. “Hello, Robbins!”
“Hello Ben. Anything new?”
“The South has deployed some eagles. We can’t get any more information.” he says. “According to this, there might be a conscription notice.”
“Thanks son.”
He nods and he continues flying around saying, “Newspapers!”
BOOM
Suddenly we see a large explosion in the distance. Sirens begin sounding and soldiers begin to rally in the town square.
“All civilians! Evacuate! Head west towards the fortresses!” he says over the ever closing explosions.
“Snow, Bobbin, get your stuff. Tell your mother we need to leave!”
A loud voice rings out over the speakers. “Eagles inbound! Intercept! Intercept!”
Five owl divisions rush in to stop the advance of the eagles but are knocked to the ground like flies.
A few eagles fall to the owls, but their advance continues steadily onward.
Hours later, the town is overrun.
The soldiers of the South invade. No mercy is shown. Men, women, children, are all killed for standing in the way. Buildings and homes, all set alight and burned to the ground with their inhabitants screaming from
within. Streets run with the blood of the innocent.
Work for us, they say. Work for us or die.
I don’t want to die.
I’ll work.
But when I’m done I’ll rebel.
