《Doomsday 2020》28. The Resolve

Alex woke up from sleep, he was currently laying in bed inside a small room. It's a simple wooden house with a small window, Alex can see the morning light. A moment later, a woman came into the room, she was wearing a simple traditional Indonesian clothing. She smiles at Alex, starring attentively.
"You have finally woken up? How do you feel? Does it still hurt?"
Alex had just realized that his body was quite rigid and hard to move. He seems to have been lying in this bed for quite some time. The woman removes his shirt, apparently, there are lots of bandages on Alex’s body, she tried to change it into the new one.
Not long after, a man walks into the room, Alex recognizes him, the memory starts coming back to him... This man was called Erick who had saved him from the zombie attack. Erick took Alex to his house, it is located in a small village in the central section of Bali near the mountains.
Erick then helps Alex stand up, who had just awakened, and takes him slowly to the dining table. There they sat together, Erick had a daughter and a son.
"Haloo mister, my name is Vina."
The little girl smiles at him.
She reminded Alex a lot about his family. On the first day, the disease spread and not long after his daughter Tiffany died… His wife and his other daughter Tiarra died following the chaos from the outbreak.
Alex turned into madness... He pushed all the anger and sadness inside him into action. He took any weapon he could find and started chopping down as many zombies he could find. Going around shelters to shelters with only one purpose in his mind. Kill as many zombies as possible. If he died during the process, it will be a release from his pain. Sometime later, during a group hunt he was separated and was chased into the forest. When he was surrounded, he thought it was finally his end, but this guy Erick had saved him.

Alex found no more meaning for his life, he no longer has a purpose, but here he is, having breakfast together with people who resemble his family a lot. Erick is a family man, he has a wonderful family, he is also very lucky that none of his family members has contracted the disease.
The village is very isolated, there are only about 50 people living there and most of them are survivors from the surrounding villages. As the place is far from the cities, they rarely get any attacks from the undead. There are 10 strong men who work together to protect the village. The village was quite peaceful, in some other times Alex would also join the team and protect the village as he got nothing else to do. Alex becomes very close to the family and starts caring for Eric's children like his own, especially Vina, she has too much resemblance to Tiffany.
"I heard from another passing survivor that many people are gathering in eastern Bali, there seemed to be something that had fallen from the sky which had helped the survivors."
Erick said during a team meeting as they were discussing about moving the group to a bigger survivor area.
Alex actually disagreed, he believed that with a bigger group, it will be harder to survive as they will have to share resources, and Alex also pointed out about how a desperate human could sometimes be even more dangerous than the undead. The group agreed with Alex, so they decided to stay.
Days turned to weeks, with Alex and Erick becoming really close, the two of them were the backbone of the village. They are the two strongest men in the village. Sometimes during hunting, they had found out that some mutated animals and zombies were dropping some stones, but they didn't know what to do with it.
Eventually, Erick becomes more restless, he thinks that the undead’s attacks are becoming more frequent and they are seeing mutated ones more often. But some of the people in the group still are still hesitant to move, so they still haven't made a decision.

One day, Alex and the villagers can feel that something bad is coming. The ground is shaking, the trees are falling... It was the hordes... The undead are moving in such a massive scale... There were thousands of them...
The group suddenly felt regret for not moving out sooner. There are women and children with them. Thus, it will be very hard for them to outrun the zombies.
Alex volunteers to create a distraction and delay the hordes. All the other 10 men as well volunteered. But Alex forbade Erick to come.
However, how could 10 men delay hordes of thousands undead? The group only managed to delay the hordes for only 10 minutes. Alex was badly injured and ran back to go search for the villagers, but there he found their gruesome bodies and remains. Alex managed to find Erick, their group was separated but Vina was with him.. Erick was dying... there was no hope for him.
"You must save them... Save as many as you can..."
Erick’s last words...
Alex took Vina and searched for the others. However, there was no one else that survived...
Erick's wife and son, they all had died.
Alex was able to save Vina and brought her to where the Doomsday Pillars had descended, only Vina was the only one he managed to save.
This is a very common story between the survivors... Loved ones, close friends, each and everyone of them died… If it wasn't for Vina, Alex would had already lost his sanity. It was predicted that only 1% of the world’s population will be able to survive the first year. Each year the monsters were only getting stronger. After 5 years, humans have become an endangered species. We ran and we hid.
After the incident with Erick, Alex found a purpose. It was to save as many as he can...
People have called it the Messiah complex or Savior complex. But Alex didn't care. It has become his resolve.
He tries to save as many people as he can, but every time he tries to, only more people die. On the seventh year even Vina had also died. Alex was probably one of the last humans to die. Either he is the luckiest or the most unlucky. Because in the end, he also died...
Alex woke up from his sleep, he fell asleep inside an airplane.
"The same dream again."
For Alex, the last 11 years was a living nightmare, this nightmare had just ended two weeks ago. It was still engraved in his memory. He woke up reincarnated and received a second chance.
"Save as many as you can."
Alex knows that he definitely cannot save everyone, but by just increasing the survivors of the first year from 1% to 2% would already be considered a success.
"How do you convince 7 billion people that in 2 weeks there will be doomsday?"
Hopefully, I will find the solution in here.
Airplane onboard announcement:
"Please be seated, this plane will soon arrive at our destination, the city of Boston, United States."
Alex looked at the woman sitting next to him, it was Aria.
"You actually don't need to follow me around, you know."
"Yes..."
"Do you even know what we are trying to do?"
"No..."
"You don't talk much do you?"
"Yes..."

Summoner's Journey
[Before you read - the story is officially dead. The reasons behind it are posted in the last chapter.] In a magic world on the verge of an industrial revolution, Ari Ragnarsson must uncover the truth behind his parents' disappearance. They were part of an organization known as the Order, which protects mankind from various threats - both human and supernatural. Now, after Ari's brands finally manifest, he leaves the safety of his village and travels to the continent. Strength is all that matters in this world and he must learn how to control his powers. There, he meets a man from another world, who's being hunted for merely existing. Their fates become intertwined, but not in a way either of them would appreciate. Author's note (contains minor non-story related spoilers about the MC and setting) This is a progression fantasy with LITRPG elements sprinkled on top. The main character is not a spellsword, but a summoner/support mage hybrid. Since he wasn't ambushed by a random god, there's no cheat item/spell and he has to rely on his skills and wits to survive in a world full of monsters. The story tries to show the moment when the old starts to be replaced by the new, with a healthy dose of magic and a little steampunk in the background. Also, it revolves around a party dynamic akin to RPG sessions. No health/mana bars. Numbers are secondary and the LITRPG elements focus more on classes/spells/runes and their evolutions. Tables are sparse at the beginning, but from chapter 7 onwards they appear more often. Still, I won't be copy-pasting the whole character sheet dozens of times per chapter.

Volume 12: The Two Monsters
This is a fanfiction of "Overlord" and follows the events of the original Volume 11. Jaldabaoth attacks the Holy Kingdom, who in turn have no choice but to ask the Sorcerer Kingdom for help. Ainz accepts and has a showdown with Jaldabaoth. Who will win? You might be surprised :) More sasuga, more keikaku, Demiurge approves. I originally wrote it at the end of 2016, now I've edited and completed this volume.

A Sky of Star and Strength
Jake was just an intelligent kid living a pretty regular life in Mill Creek, Washington. Then the apocalypse happens. Now with his Dad out of the country and totally in yet out his element, this is his story. My take on a system apocalypse based around "life force" as a currency. The main character will have a special power (as will most of the other characters) and be rather OP, you have been warned. Like many of the authors on this site I have no formal writing experience so writing tips and grammar corrections are much appreciated :)

Devil's Basement: Colony Ragnarok
Far beneath the surface of a planet wrapped in a toxic atmosphere, competing political ideologies stare each other down over a heavily militarised line that cuts through the city on their border. Among the dark rail tunnels and mine shafts are an unfinished treaty up for negotiation; a fanatical terrorist group with questionable backers; and ordinary people caught in the middle. In this claustrophobic environment, those who desire peace must act quickly or these tunnels will collapse in the fires of war. _____ This story is based on a role-playing map game I GM'd awhile ago. The four main characters are based on the four players from that map game, and the general sequence of events follows the game as well. Cover art: inncect (formerly astrxphoria) from wattpad.com, where this story was first published.
