《The Chronicle of a Witch》Chapter 16 Rhino-Bear's Raid

“Don’t you think you have too much fun lately?” The silly Goddess asked while we were having breakfast. Well, I had to admit that the role-playing game was surprisingly fun. No wonder all those people were playing this game.
What role-playing game I was playing? Of course, I was playing as Slimerin. Every day, I came to play with the Players. Though I said that I was playing, for the Players, it was a real humiliation though. Even after planning this and that, preparing a lot of traps and doing everything they could, they weren’t able to kill me even once. Well, the last time was quite dangerous though, because Zero joined the fun.
Unlike other people who relied on their Skills they gained in the game, Zero relied on his genuine skill. Perhaps he was a master Swordsman even in real-life. And since it was a real-world too, all his skills in swords from his real-life was brought to this world too. And that was why unlike the other players that couldn’t react at all when I parried their attack, Zero was able to attack me quickly even after I parried his attack. Yep, he was really a dangerous Warrior.
The fight between me and Zero ended a draw, as I retreated. Yes, it was a tactical retreat, because when I fought with him, the other shot me with countless Magic, disregarding the fact that they could hit him with those Magic too. Surprisingly, none of the Spells hit him though, as he skillfully dodged them all even when he was not looking. I was wondering whether he had Slime senses like me or not...
Anyway, I retreated not because I lost to Zero, but because I didn’t want to know what it felt to be burned by [Fireballs]. Speaking of which, the Players could feel the pain too, but they had pain reduction settings with the lowest was reduced to only ten percent. As for the highest, well, it was a hundred percent, though I believed none of them wanted to set it to a hundred percent. Even Zero said that he only set it to fifty percent.
Anyway, it was extremely difficult to fight like that. Perhaps I should think about new tactics if that were to happen. Speaking of which, I usually fought against a party consisted of five to eight people. Avoiding one or two Magic was easy, unlike the countless Magic right now. It was the first time I felt like becoming a target for a raid. Perhaps later I could be a boss for a raid too?
…wait a minute. Why do I feel that I become like the villain in this world? I just wanted to live my life peacefully inside my Dungeon like usual!
Eh, but playing a villain role was quite funny as well. Naturally, if there was no risk to my main body, it was fun, just like how the Players having fun risking their lives every day in this game while the NPCs didn’t dare risk their life recklessly like that. That was also the reason why the Players became stronger than NPCs in later games, as they didn’t fear death at all and in exchange, they gained more battle experience than the NPCs.

Speaking of which, the silly Goddess was still glaring at me while I was thinking about this and that. I cleared my throat and replied to her. “Do you want to join me too? I can provide the second body… let’s call it the SlimeBriana! What do you think?”
And a fist hit my head. It hurt, but more importantly, her fist was dirty as something entered my eyes and caused tears coming out of the corner of my eyes. Yep, it was because her fist was dirty, not because it hurt.
“If you keep using domestic violence like this, you will never find a husband.” I muttered inwardly while glaring at the silly Goddess. I should think about how to avenge this grieve. Perhaps, when she was sleeping, I would wrap her with my Slime and bring her around the village so people would think that she was being eaten by a Slime? That was a nice idea… yep, let’s do that tonight.
While thinking like that, we heard a commotion from outside. We peeked from the nearby window and saw that the Players were shouting that the Rhino-Bear was entering the village. Looking at the Goddess, both of us nodded and went hunting that stupid Rhino-Bear… alright, I stayed on my chair while the silly Goddess exited the house in a rush, followed by the silent God. Yep, they left me alone.
I wanted to watch how the fight going on, however, I didn’t want to come too early. It would cause the Players to be in a panic and attacked me and the Rhino-Bear. It would be counter-productive. So, I continued sipping my tea elegantly. Yep, I believed it was what people called as beauty as painting…
Cough, anyway, I waited while listening attentively to the outside commotion. Since we were in the village and near the Resurrection Point of the Players, even if they were killed, they would be able to help as soon as possible. Except, the Rhino-Bear would be stronger the more Players it killed. So, I hoped the Players were clever enough not to offer their lives to the Rhino-Bear.
Fifteen minutes passed while the Players were still running about from the Resurrection Point to where the Rhino-Bear was. Half an hour later, they were still running around. An hour later, they were still running around.
“How long do they want to fight?” I silently wondered as I watched them running to the Rhino-Bear from the Resurrection Point. I didn’t know how long fighting a Boss usually happened in a game, but I thought two hours was a bit too long. Should I come and watch now? Also, the silly Goddess couldn’t beat it, huh?
“I think it’s time for me to go there and join the fun too.” I muttered as I looked at the option I had. The Aqua Slime was still there. It was, however, small and its viscosity was quite low. It absorbed Mana every day, but it seemed the amount of Mana in this village was too low that it shrank quite a bit. If previously it could cover Zero’s head, now, it could only cover his face. Yes, it shrank according to the amount of Mana in its surrounding, just like how people became thin when they ate less.

The Aqua Slime was better than the Smokeless Slime, however, I hesitated in using it. If it died, I wouldn’t be able to summon similar Slime for quite a while. Not unless I wanted to draw more power from my soul, which would leave me in a defenseless state. I was not in an emergency so I didn’t think that I needed to use the Aqua Slime now.
However, the Smokeless Slime was really weak. A single stab from a normal sword could kill it. In a chaotic battle against the Rhino-Bear, I didn’t think the Smokeless Slime could hold it at all. Should I use Aqua Slime or Smokeless Slime?
“…oh well, I think it’s better to use Aqua Slime at this moment. If the Players were defeated, we all would be doomed after all.” I decided after thinking deeply.
And so, I let my body relaxed on my bed while transferring my consciousness to the Aqua Slime. Looking at my body from the Slime’s perspective… it looked like a little girl was sleeping soundly in the bed. Well, I kept a bit of my consciousness on my body, so if someone entered the room or if there was a danger to my body, I would react immediately.
Speaking of which, I actually could separate my consciousness to several bodies. However, my control over those bodies would be worse than only using one body. For example, if I could move at high speed by contracting and stretching the Slime’s body if I only controlled one Slime, by controlling two or three Slimes I wouldn’t be able to move like that. If I had to make an analogy, perhaps it was similar to even though I could write by using both my left and right hands, I couldn’t use both of them to do different things simultaneously. So, I preferred controlling a single Slime while the other Slimes only had a bit of my consciousness so they would follow my order.
After transferring my consciousness to the Aqua Slime and adapting to its body, I started jumping out of the windows. Naturally, I did it after making sure that no one saw me. I covertly went to the direction I heard the commotion from and I hid on top of the nearby tree. I hoped no one noticed me while I was doing my report on how the battle went.
The silly Goddess was taking charge here. She drew the Rhino-Bear attention the most. She always attacked its face and kept the aggro on her. Well, for the most part, as sometimes, an unlucky Tank or Warrior drew its aggro too and being killed with a single swipe. Sometimes, the Mages would draw the aggro too, but the Tanks and the Warriors would hastily hit it so it stopped targeting the Mages.
The Rhino-Bear’s body was filled with wounds, whether it was from the sword or from the fire. However, perhaps it had high fire-resistance, its fur only had a few burn marks. As for its vital, which was its neck, there were almost no wounds on it.
They had fought for two hours already, yet, they still hadn’t brought it down. It seemed they lacked the decisive factor in this raid. Zero attacked by moving left and right agilely, however, his sword was quite useless for its thick skin. There was only scratch from his single attack. Though he repeatedly attacked the same spot again and again so the wounds became bigger.
“Fire!” When the command resounded, all the Tanks and Warriors retreated orderly and countless [Fireballs] and [Firebolts] hit the Rhino-Bear. It roared angrily, and rushed towards the Mages, though it would be stopped by the Tanks and the Warriors started attacking again, drawing its aggro quickly.
It repeated several times, however, it seemed the more it fought, the fiercer it would be. Meanwhile, on our side, the more we fought, the more fatigue we accumulated. The silly Goddess, for example, her movement had become slightly sloppier. It was still good, but I could see that she was tired. And if she couldn’t keep up with this fight, I didn’t think that anyone else could tank the Rhino-Bear.
The silent God's main Class was not a frontline Class, so he couldn’t switch place with the silly Goddess. Zero could exchange place with her, but I doubted he could last as long as the silly Goddess. They needed a lot of concentration while avoiding the Rhino-Bear attack after all, and human’s concentration was limited to half an hour at most. After that, it would be difficult for them not to make mistakes at all.
As for the other Players… no one moved like Zero. Even Donald, one of the best Players, didn’t move like Zero. He moved as if it was a game, raising his shield and blocked from the front when he was attacked. He should learn how to direct the attack so he didn’t receive the full brunt of the impact.
And as expected, after another ten minutes passed, the silly Goddess made a mistake. She moved too slowly and couldn’t dodge the Rhino-Bear attack, so she had to block its attack with her sword. She was flung ten meters away and her sword broke into several pieces. The Rhino-Bear roared in excitement as the most annoying Tank was defeated. After that, it became even fiercer and rushed to the closest Tank, who was too slow in raising his shield and killed him in a single sweep.
Next, it bit the closest Warrior and killed him easily too. After that, well, after that, it was a catastrophe. Even Zero was slammed by its huge body when he attacked. As for Donald, he blocked one of its attacks and he was blown off to distance away. His life was questionable. It seemed the silly Goddess played the most important part of this raid. And after she was hit like that, the Rhino-Bear could kill the other Players easily.
“Fufufu. Foolish humans that can’t defeat this silly Bear with your own power. Watch how the Great Slimerin defeats it! Muahaha!” I jumped and landed on the Rhino-Bear’s back with a cool landing pose. Yep, as cool as a Slime could be.

Path of the Ancients
When humans with the ability to control the fundamental particles of the universe with their minds were first discovered, the age of space travel began in earnest. Relativistic travel faster than the speed of light became possible and humanity moved out into the stars. When it was discovered that these Mages could be turned into effective weapons, humanity turned back to its oldest pastime of war. Hundreds of years later as humanity was on the brink of self-destruction, with its taste for war finally beginning to wane, a new organization was created. The Conclave was formed to regulate all Mage’s within the human colonies. While the colonies maintained their independence, the Conclave’s control over access to interstellar travel made them the de facto power amongst humanity. As the old saying goes, ‘Power Corrupts’, and many people were unhappy with the way the Conclave had been leveraging its authority, not the least of which were the Mages they controlled. One unregistered illegal Mage by the name of Tyrial had made it his life's mission to dismantle the Conclave at any cost. After spending decades working towards his goals alone, he realized he would need the aid of willing allies in his crusade. Tyrial would need all the help he could get learning to work with others, dealing with his own dark past, and handling unfamiliar feelings of romantic interest. Content Warning Note: They are there to cover my behind. I honestly hesitated to put them there at all but I figured better safe than sorry. Gore in particular barely applies and the sexual content amounts to light Cinemax style at best. But, at least now you can’t say I didn’t warn you.
