“I want to live here,” Michelle said.

“No way, you’d stink up the place!” Lucy exclaimed.

“Hm… I wonder if I should live here too,” Jibril added.

“What? Not you too,” Lucy said as she jumped from her seat.

“It would get a bit crowded with all of us here…” Raphie pondered.

“No and that is the final answer,” Lucy said as she crossed her arms.

“Come on, it’d be fun. Every day would be like a sleepover!” Jibril said excitedly.

“Now, now. We can talk this over,” Raphie said, trying to steer the conversation.

“We were talking this over. And this conversation is final. No one else joins us,” Lucy said.

Wait a second, why was I here?

I was told to come by to visit for a party. Not some quarrel between sisters. Come on!

I fiddled with my fingers as I sat at the dining table along with the rest of the angels. I quietly listened carefully to their conversation without participating. I had no idea why they invited me in the first place. I was so sure it was supposed to be a party. Maybe it was just some get together that somehow developed into this conversation. Man, I could be sleeping by now.

Trying to find something to do, my hands wandered the table to reach my glass of water. I awkwardly take a sip of water while staring at the others as they bicker over who’s staying where. By the time I finished with my sip, I noticed everyone looking at me.

“What do you think?”

“Huh?” I said confusedly.

I blinked a few times as everyone stared at me in silence. If only I was paying attention, I wouldn’t be in this mess.

“So, what’s going on?” I chuckled nervously.

“I want to stay here,” Michelle said bluntly.

“Me too,” Jibril added.

“We’re crowded as it is,” Lucy said.

“You’re not going to stay here long Jibril…” Raphie responded.

I thought to myself as I rubbed my chin.

“Maybe one of you can crash at my place?” I said.

The silence continued.

“Maybe,” Raphie respond. “That sounds like-”

“You’re kidding, right?” Michelle interrupted. with a disgusted look.

“That sounds fun,” Jibril said as she clapped her hands lightly.

“Ew,” Lucy said.

What are you saying? You were living with me not too long ago! Just shut up, you devil. I held back my thoughts as I took another sip of water.

Everyone started talking over one another. I couldn’t track any of their conversations anymore. At some point, they started sounding like a broken record player. Each started repeating the same point they had before, without budging at all. Tired of their bickering, I shouted.

“Enough!” Everyone had their eyes on me. “We clearly aren’t progressing here. Now, what can we do to solve this problem? Anybody want to chime in?”

No one said a word.

“How about Michelle sleep over at your place?” Jibril offered.

Michelle flinched. She avoided eye contact with me since she knew I saw her reaction.

“I-I guess I could just sleep during the day. When David’s at school and all.”

Raphie finally relaxed as she sighed in relief. Jibril just smiled uncontrollably. Meanwhile, Lucy was disgusted but satisfied that the problem was resolved.

“What about you Jibril?” I asked.

“I’ll be around,” She said as she winked at me. Michelle and Lucy just glared at me.

Wait, I didn’t do anything!

After eating dinner, we all went our separate ways. Lucy and Raphie stayed in the apartment while the rest of us stood outside.

“That was fun,” Jibril said with delight.

“Where are you going to go right now?” I asked.

“I’ll pass by Heaven, I suppose. It’s been a while. Plus, I have a job to do. There are some things others can’t do without me,” Jibril boasted.

“Well, safe travels then.”

I waved Jibril goodbye. But when she said something as she passed by Michelle before leaving.

“Should I tell him this time?” Jibril said.

“No, I’ll be fine.”

Michelle spoke with a blank face. She then stared at me and gestured to follow her. We stood in front of my door.

“Open,” She whispered.

I followed her instructions and we walked into the apartment. Michelle analyzed my apartment. From the bathroom to the kitchen, it wasn’t that big in the first place.

“Interesting.”

“What?”

“Follow me,” She commanded.

Michelle and I left the apartment building. We walked for a bit until we arrived at the church. Michelle took a deep breath in and relaxed her shoulders. She sat down on the stair steps and slouched. I followed and sat next to her.

Michelle seemed more relaxed now than before in Raphie’s apartment. Maybe she was more comfortable near a church.

“So, what’s going on? You haven’t said anything yet.”

The young woman sitting next to me took a deep breath. She then stared at me with her cold eyes. Her blank face brought me to a serious mood.

“The reason why I’m here is that you’re not safe. That death stunt that happened to you was not the end of it.”

My heart skipped a beat. I could feel fear filling up inside me. How was I supposed to react to that? I could only respond in a way that I could think of.

“Great. That’s great. Is someone out there out to kill me? Maybe to finish the job? Oh great. Just what do they want from me? I’m just some random human out here, minding my own business.”

“That’s why I’m here. To investigate and defend you from any supernatural harm. That is unless something natural or a human kills you first.”

“You’re implying I have enemies? I’m just some stupid shut-in who plays video games all day. Like, what do they want from me?”

“Who knows, maybe you do.”

“If you find them then tell me. I’m quite curious how I would even make enemies in the first place.”

Michelle glanced at me. Her eyes reflected the street lamp behind me. Her tilted head was a mismatch to her serious voice. Her forehead wrinkled as she raised her eyebrows. She seemed really concerned about me.

“Don’t make jokes, especially at a time like these.”

“Sorry, I don’t know how to really process all of this.”

“So you make jokes like a defense mechanism. Humans can be weird.”

“I guess. I’m only worried about who would want to kill me in the first place.”

“That’s why I’m going to find out. Go get some sleep. I’ll see you in the morning.”

Michelle stood up and walked away.

“Wait. What am I supposed to do without you? Am I supposed to fall sound asleep without you watching after me?”

“You’ll be fine, you have two other angels living across the hall.”

What are they going to do? One was a fallen lazy bum who does nothing every day, and the other can only heal me. Did Michelle expect me to die just to be saved again? There was plenty of things going wrong here!
