《My Lazy Days With A Fallen Angel》[Part 2] Chapter 9 - Heavenly Conflict

I laid down on my bed thinking to myself. There were random questions floating around my head. If someone close to you betrayed you, how would you face them? Does your past with them affect you? Will you give them a second chance or will you strike them down without second thought?

You spent your whole life trusting that other person after all. Trust was a two-way street. If one person breaks it, the other will break down. This made trust a fragile thing. It was easy to destroy as it was to create. Once you face that person, what will you do? A broken trust with that person was just as worse as killing you. It might be an exaggeration but it would have that feeling.

I thought back to my meeting with Michelle the other day. I wasn’t sure about who she was supposed to be. The sword gave it away though. I could tell who it was. Maybe I should do some research.

I walked over to my bookshelf. My eyes scanned through each shelf for a certain book. My international version of the bible. I flipped through the pages. There were bookmarks on various pages. They were recent after all. Near the rear of the book was a red bookmark. Something I haven’t read in a while.

‘Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down - that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.’

My finger followed through the text. Everyone was familiar with this confrontation. Whether you were religious or not. This probably was the source of their conflict. Although this small amount of verses didn’t give me much information. I did have a few ideas about it though.

There was then a knock on my door. I set the book down on the table and walked to the door. I peeked outside into the hallway. There was a short person standing straight. She had an eager look in her eyes.

“Oh, it’s you,” The person at the door said.

Those should’ve been my words…

The young woman in front of me had a clean but wet face with her hair tied up. She wore the same jumpsuit since I last saw her. Her shoes were a little worn out while there was evidence of dirt at the edge of her pants. There was a faint scent of sweat in the air.

“Michelle, what are you doing here?” I asked.

She slouched the moment she saw me. Immediately there was disappointment in her eyes. Her stance shifted as if she was ready to walk away. She looked around the hallway as if to make sure she was at the right door.

“I’m here for Raphie.”

“This is the wrong door. She lives across the hall.”

I pointed to the door straight across from mine.

“So this was the wrong apartment,” She whispered to herself.

“Ah, I believe she is at work right now. Sorry.”

She clicked her tongue and looked away in annoyance. There was a blank expression on her face. It was as if she was staring past me. She then glanced at the ground.

“Don’t look at me like that,” I whispered.

Michelle then turned her head to me. I guess she heard me. Her blank stare said it all. An angel has no interest in a human after all. Why would she bother with me at all?

“What do you mean?”

“It’s just the way you look at me.”

“Why do you care?”

“I know I’m just some random human to you, but you don’t have to be rude about it. At least fake a smile once in a while.”

I finished with my complaints. Michelle’s blank expression turned into a frown.

“Don’t tell me what to do.”

“Well, It’s almost the end of the day. Raphie should be coming home from work soon. You won’t be waiting for too long.”

I was ready to close the door until I heard a creak of an opening door. Lucy came out from the door across the hall. She peeked through the door first as she probably heard us talking.

“Oh, was this a bad time?”

“No, I was on my way,” Michelle started walking away.

“Hey,” I said trying to stop her. “You can just wait out here. Michelle wait.”

I closed my door behind me. Michelle stopped by the top of the stairs.

“Michelle, huh. What a name.”

Lucy chuckled to herself.

“Lucy, stop that,” I said.

“Lucy? Ha.” Michelle broke her blank face. She had this look of discontent. It was as if she was looking down at the short Lucy. She had this sinister smile.

Lucy and Michelle just stared at each other. There was a brief silence in the hall. For a second, I thought they were about to fight.

“Hey now. Let’s not fight here. Especially here,” I said with a nervous laugh.

If Michelle can bring out a sword out of nowhere, I don’t want to know what Lucy was capable of. Why can’t they handle their differences like normal human beings, even if they’re angels?

“Now, now,” a voice spoke out from the bottom of the stairwell. “Let’s not start a fight here.”

A gentle person walked up the stairs. She was still in her uniform while holding onto a plastic bag. She was taller than the other two girls standing in the hall, convincing me that she was the older sister figure among the sisters.

“Raphie,” Michelle wept. She ran up to her and wrapped her arms around Raphie. Lucy, on the other hand, crossed her arms and pouted.

“I didn’t expect to see you so soon.”

“I just wanted to see you,” Michelle said as she wiped her eyes.

“Now, I want you three to behave.”

“Wait a minute,” I said. “I didn’t do anything!”

“Sure,” Raphie said.

She walked up to her apartment door and walked in. Lucy and Michelle followed. They pushed one another in order to go in first before the other. After a short struggle, Michelle got in first.

With a sigh, I went back to my apartment. I walked to the table where I left the bible.

I looked back at the story about the war in Heaven. If Michael and Lucifer were really siblings, then they have broken that bond a long time ago. Then again, would time really heal that wound? I thought about how long would that take. They had an eternity after all.

If you have broken that kind of trust with someone, how would you mend it back?
