Chapter 5-Growth

Sear ran and ran, never looking back. Once he got stopped by a guard because of all the blood coating him but just slashed the man’s throat and continued. He could hear the ruckus all around the city.

The city was thrown upside down by the dead of over 5 nobles, each of which was one of the most influential.

Lights were turning on behind him as more and more people heard the news. It had probably already spread back to the guild hall. Sear continued on, trying to race his way back to the base without getting caught.

He ran across the entire city without stop until he found what he was looking for. A hole dug near a bridge that led all the way to the base. He scurried down the hole and ran like a dog on all fours. He continued running in the pitch black until his face collided with a wall. With a grunt, he tapped the wall 3 times and the entrance was open, leading Sear straight into the main hall.

Immediately Limbo ran over. “What in the utter hell have you done!? I asked you to assassinate Eldor but you ended up killing an army along with 7 nobles! Do you know what you just did?” Sear could visibly see the rage coming off of him.

“I was surrounded and lost control. There were too many for me to be able to kill him silently. I got bloodthirsty and decided to kill them all.” Sear was angry at himself for letting it happen. “And I don’t see the bad thing about me killing them all. The less nobles, the easily it will be for you.”

“The problem is that the man who was paying us was one of the man you assassinated! You imbecile! I’ll give you by midnight. If you’re not gone from this city by then I’ll hunt you down myself.” Limbo turned and left, leaving a stunned Sear standing there.

Sear felt himself get angry, and he wanted to unleash his anger. Instead, he shut it away and left the main room, braking some of the things in the way.

He made his way straight to the showers, where he cleaned himself and his clothes, before he made his way back down to the store room. There, he took out all the pots he had made and the silver sword. He shoved the sword into the cloak to hide it from prying eyes.

Once again, he was being shunned from the place he had made his home. First it was him being shunned from his home village when he turned sixteen, it was the reason he was in the place he even was. He turned and lunched the wall, leaving a dent in the stone wall. His dark powers could make him many times stronger than any normal human, so that hit felt like nothing.

Sear left the base and was once again in the sewers. The stinky, mud covered green bricks that the entire sewer was made of. He ran down the side and instead of continuing the same way, he took a turn and decided to go out from the part that connected to the river near the cities wall. He would take that river and make his way to wherever it led.

He waked down the hallway, taking time to think about everything that has happened to him in the past few years. He was hated by everyone he knew, he was kicked out of his home town, he found a job in the Thieves’ guild, and then a few days later got kicked from it.

He continued to walk until he heard a gushing sound to his right. He realized that he had reached the river connection. He jumped into the water and began to swim forward, using bubbles to find his way upwards.

He nearly drowned in the water. He was sucked back downwards by the current and slammed his head against the dense rock, making him lose most of his breath. Thankfully, he managed to float upwards and catch a breath of frigid air.

He pulled himself out of the river and took a look around. He was in a plains area and could see the city wall raising almost 3 kilometers away at most. He looked up to see the moon.

The full moon’s brightness stirred something inside him, and he felt his want for power to increase. He suddenly knew what he had to do. He had to submit himself.

He began to sprint, all the meanwhile chanting different dark powers that would make him stronger, faster, and have more stamina. He was about to become an army of a man. He continued running for days on end, only stopping for short rests or to eat some game that he had hunted.

By the third day, he could feel his power increasing because of the constant use, and he was running at a much greater speed.

Without him noticing, his piercing blue eyes began to take a faint red tint.

Days of travel had passed, and Sear could heavily feel the effects of using his magic so much. His entire body was sore. From the skin under his toenails, to the very nerve that interlocked his brain.

All he felt was a mass of pain. It was as if someone was burning every part of his body at the same time. He looked around him, and realized that had been running towards The Zone.

It was the only place unexplored by humans, for there were rumors of giants, dark wielding humans, and it was also the home of the half human races. The races that mutated and made a home there.

He thought it would be the best place for him to go, as he was like them, an outcast. He looked onwards and decided that he should learn to protect himself better before going there.

Though he felt as if he might die if he used any more magic, Sear sent tendrils of dark magic into the air and had it go towards the corpse of the animal he had just hunted. The tendrils wove themselves into the animal’s body and suddenly the small fox opened it eyes and lifted its head.

Its eyes were a glossy white that held no pupil. The raised fox tried to stand but collapsed back into the ground, lifeless.

“Hmmm, this is harder than expected.” Sear had expected for him to be able to raise such a small animal with ease, but it seems like he didn’t send enough dark energy at it. This time, he concentrated harder, and before sending the tendrils of energy at the fox, wove them around his body as they gathered power.

When he reached his limit, he sent all of the energy at the fox. It jerked awake and jumped up, lifting itself off the floor. Its eyes now had black lines flowing through it, and its red, orangey pelt had turned gray. All of its wounds instantly healed into scars and stood attentively, waiting for its orders.

Sear had done what he wanted, he had learn the skills needed to be a necromancer. While it was only a small animal, he was proud of what he did and began to casually walk towards the mountains, knowing that he would need time to gather a bit more strength before he walked in there.
