《The Spirit Veil [The Akh Chronicles: Book 1]》16

The next morning it was obvious shit was about to go down. And that's putting it lightly. There was this feel in the air that put me on edge all day. I wasn't the only person affected, of course. Lydia was jumpy the entire day as we prepared for the night's events. Arthur was in a piss-poor mood to say the least. [Yes you were. Yes you were. YES YOU - we're not doing this right now.]
There wasn't that much to prepare for. We couldn't stop the Veil from being breached. All we could do was attempt to stop all the spirits getting out and Naomie getting in and taking photos. Or filming. Or vlogging. Or whatever the hell she was planning to do. You know, it's just now occurred to me that we really had no idea what we were in for which explain why I ended up getting -
Anyway, in hindsight - which I now have the benefit of having - we were truly idiots. Well, my cousin was the idiot and I saved his idiot ass and I am totally giving away the story so let's just fast forward through the preparation montage and get a move on. Things got way more interesting by the time the moon rose.
In all honesty, I was expecting some big explosion or flash of light or some big portal-like thing to open. You know, cause that's what always happens in the movies so you just start expecting it to happen, especially once you're in those situations.
Naturally, I was wrong.
[No, Ly, I'm not repeating that sentence. You heard me perfectly fine.]
We'd been waiting for the moon to rise in the clearing for about an hour when something finally happened. There wasn't an explosion or a flash of light or anything. Instead, the air in front of us teared apart. Like, literally teared apart like it was a piece of paper. It wasn't all that impressive - an explosion would have been cooler - but it certainly made us all stare.

"Okay, that's cool," Arthur said, his jaw all but hitting the ground.
I closed his mouth with a finger. "Eh. Was expecting better."
"Expecting bet -" He jumped up and down like a five year old, waving his hands at the sight before us. "There's a fucking rip in the air and you were expecting better?!"
I shrugged. He groaned.
When I went to take a step forward, Lydia held an arm out in front of me. You'd think that would achieve nothing because I could walk straight through here but, for some reason, I stopped. "What is it?" I asked.
"Don't get too close," she said. "It's not as strong as it will be tomorrow night, but it's probably best we keep our distance."
None of us felt like getting sucked into a random tear so we remained where we were. Arthur, ever the teenager, begun taking photos of it with his phone. Lydia and I scolded him until he agreed to never show them to anyone. Ever. Not even his future wife. Or husband. Either was possible.
There wasn't all that much to see through the tear. It was obviously somewhere else since it looked entirely different to the park we were standing in. It was blackness against the trees. Just . . . Nothing. An empty void. You get the idea. I assumed it was because the full blood moon wasn't until tomorrow and doubted we would be seeing anything else until then.
Naturally, that was when a face appeared in the nothingness.

Star Ocean
A space cadet crash lands onto a world unknown to him. Join his struggles as he tries to find a way home------------------------------------------------------------------------------Authors note: I decided to continue this concept. I'm not really good at writing. I just have some few ideas that I want to bring to life. Also, patience is not my virtue so I tend to overpower my characters too quickly. Please feel free to leave comments of your thoughts so that i may avoid this.
