Chapter 3.1

‘Where is this? Where am I?’

‘Who are you? I don’t remember having a child like you. Tell me, what are you… really?’

‘I-I don’t know! Tell me, who are you!?’

‘I don’t know why my blood flows through your veins, but I guess this makes you the fourth.’

‘Fourth? Fourth what!? What the hell are you talking about!?’

‘What makes this even stranger is that you look nothing like me nor any of my wives. However since you have my blood flowing through you, i’ll give you a chance to prove yourself. Show me, my son, what you’re capable of.’

‘You are not my father!’

“Adrian! Adrian, stop it before you hurt yourself!” A woman’s voice yelled out.

“Nurse! Help!” She yelled as she pushed a red button on the side of Adrian’s bed.

Adrian was moving around wildly in the bed while the IVs and other cords that were inside him were coming out. He was screaming and yelling with his eyes closed tightly. A woman was next to him holding his arm tightly. She was wearing a black suit that matched her hair and eyes perfectly. She was at least twenty years older than Adrian himself.

This woman was gorgeous, enough for anyone to mistake her for a model. The reason she was here was simple. To look after her son.

Storming into the room was a woman nurse along with two men. The woman in blue scrubs told the two men to sedate Adrian before he harmed himself or his mother.

One man grabbed Adrian and held him down while the other took a needle and stuck it into his neck. Shortly after Adrian’s body relaxed and he calmed down. The woman approached Adrian’s mom and looked at her sincerely. “Mrs. Miller, you should get some rest. You’ve already been here for sixteen hours, I think it’s about time you get some sleep.” The Nurse suggested.

Mrs. Miller looked at the nurse with her bloodshot red eyes. “I thank you for your opinion, but i’ll get some sleep once I know my son is alright. Do you know how it feels to be a mother of one child and that child has been in a coma for the past day? Or how about losing your husband in an accident? Tell me Ms. how would you feel if you found out about this six hours after it happened, wouldn't’ you feel that your whole world was crashing down as well?”

The nurse felt sorry for this woman. She has been through so much, losing her husband in an accident and not knowing when her son will wake up. Truly she didn’t know how she was calm at this moment. “I-I don’t, but this isn’t good for your health.” The nurse replied.

“My health is of no concern for me when I have no idea when my child will wake up if he even will.” Mrs. Miller told the nurse.

“Fine, I can only give you my opinion. I hope he wakes up soon not only for his sake but for yours as well.” The nurse said as she turned around and left.

Once the room was empty Mrs. Miller grabbed Adrian's hand and put it to her face. Tears started flowing out and she cried. ‘Adrian please wake up, I… I can’t lose you too.’

Another hour passed by and Mrs. Miller was still sitting down next to her son. Who knows how long it’s been since she last ate anything, but it was strange. She didn’t feel hungry at all, not even sleepy. Her cell phone kept vibrating the whole time she was at the hospital with her son, but she didn’t answer it. She didn’t care about anyone at this moment, the only thing that was on her mind was her son.

A knocking sound could be heard, as she looked up at the entrance. Standing at the entrance was a woman who was around her age. She had short brown hair that came to her neck. Wearing a long vibrant purple skirt she looked at Mrs. Miller. “Hey, can I come in?” She asked.

Mrs. Miller nodded her head. The woman approached with a bag in her hand. She handed the bag to Mrs. Miller while she pulled up a seat next to her. “I brought you some food, knowing you, you probably haven’t eaten anything yet.”

Mrs. Miller smiled at the woman. “Thanks Monica. I really appreciate this.”

“No problem, I would have picked up something you wanted but you didn’t answer your phone. So I just grabbed you a sub, hope that works for you.” Monica said.

“Mrs. Miller opened the bag and grabbed the sub that was inside. “Works perfectly.” She said as she began to eat the sub sandwich. She must have been starving because the sub was gone in less than five minutes.

Monica giggled. “I should have brought more.”

Mrs. Miller blushed turning her cheeks bright red. “Stop it, I didn’t even know I was that hungry.”

“You know how us mothers can be, not wanting to leave our children for anything. I would be doing the same thing as you if I were in your shoes.”

“Yeah I know. Speaking of children, how are your two? I hope they are ok.”

“Yeah, Emilia wasn’t hurt to bad, it seems that, that boy Bryan protected her. At least he's good for something.” Monica said while laughing lightly.

“Stop it, you know what Emilia would say if she heard you say that.”

“She is still young, she doesn’t know what’s good for her right now. You know I was always rooting for that son of yours, but alas things don’t turn out how you want them to.” Monica sighed as she crossed her legs.

“I’m sure he’ll find someone good for him. Whether they end up together or not. It’s out of our hands.”

“True. So what did they say about him? ETA on him waking up?” Monica asked as she looked at Adrian.

“No, they said he would only be out for a little bit, but that was hours ago. At this point i’m just hoping he wakes up soon.” Mrs. Miller replied.

“Jamie, sometimes these things take time. Even the doctors can be wrong. Trust me, your kid is strong. He’ll wake up and be jumping around before you know it.”

“I’m just afraid how he’ll react once he finds out about his father. You know how close they were.” Jamie replied as she sighed.

This was her biggest fear, seeing how her son would react once he knew that his father was gone from this world. They were like best friends. When her husband was in town, her son and him went everywhere together. When he first came home, he already had a plan worked out for him and Adrian. But now, it doesn’t seem like that plan of his will ever go through.

Monica grabbed Jamie’s hand and looked her in the eyes. “Jamie, you have to be strong. Not only for yourself but for him too. These next few months will be the roughest time of both your lives, I know you two will make it through.”

“Thanks Monica.” Jamie softly said.

Knocking was heard on the door as they both looked up. The door opened and Emilia, Nate and Edward were standing there. “Can we come in?” Emilia asked.

“Sure.” Monica said.

“Wheres that boyfriend of yours?” Monica asked her daughter while raising her eyebrow.

Emilia walked next to Adrian's bed and glanced at him for a moment before looking at her mother. “He’ll be here shortly, his dad wanted to have a talk with him first.”

“Figures.” Monica said.

“Mom! Why are you acting like this?” Emilia asked.

“If you two don’t stop it. At least don’t do this here, not in front of Adrian. Eh, Adrian?”

‘Fuck, my head hurts.’ Adrian thought to himself as he held his head with his hand. He raised his head and looked at his mother. “Stop crying will you, you act like I was a goner or something.”

Jamie got out her seat and hugged Adrian tightly while tears flowed from her eyes. She started crying hard. “I… didn’t think… you would… ever wake up… again.” She said as she bawled her eyes out.

Being surprised by this sudden hug, Adrian was momentarily stunned before he hugged her back. “It’s ok mom. Look, i’m alright, so you don’t have to worry anymore.”

After a minute or two, she finally separated from her son and sat back down in her seat while wiping her eyes. Adrian glanced around the room and noticed the crowd. He didn’t know how long he was out for, but it must have been long enough to gather a crowd like this. Hell, even Nate was here. However, Adrian didn’t see his dad. He figured he must be out grabbing something for them to eat, or in another room. “Mom, is dad in another room?”
