《Moonlit sky》Chapter 20 - Strong fear the smart

"Where are we going?" Asked Diana as she ran up to Tenebris.
"Scouting." Answered Tenebris.
"But why only three of us?"
"I have my reasons."
"Aren't you afraid that they will betray you if you leave them unsupervised?"
"That is one of the reasons why only three of us are scouting, i'm giving them a chance to betray me." Tenebris answered calmly.
" But why? That doesn't make sense." Said Diana.
"Diana that's enough, don't push it." Spoke Tomm from behind them.
"It's fine." Answered Tenebris as he stopped and looked at Diana. "They are weak, weaklings have fears, i will further inspire that fear inside them."
"But that also doesn't make sense, why do you want them to fear you so much?"
"You are wrong at one part, i don't want them to fear me, i want them to fear death, but more than that i want them to fear death by my hands." Continued calmly Tenebris.
"But why fear, isn't it better for them to respect you?"
"Fear is easiest to control, respect has to be built, respect has to be earned, i don't have time for that, weakling fear power that can destroy them, that fear can build loyalty faster than respect could ever do."
"Faster yes, firmer no, what are you actually trying to accomplish with so much fear."
"Fear is primal emotion, except for loyalty fear can inspire growth, i need them to grow strong."
"So you can use them, if they are weak you can't use them."
"You are wrong, even weaklings have their use, Tomm is weak but he is useful."
"Strength doesn't come just from fists, he is smart and he knows things that you don't, that is his strength, so you want to use that strength."

"You are quite smart for a kid, don't you fear me?"
"No."
Cold glint flashed in his eyes as he asked: "Why?"
"You need me as much as i need you, i'm curious about you but i don't fear you."
"Your words are quite cunning, but if you think i won't kill you because you prove to me that you are smart you are wrong, being overly smart in front of strong is a flaw more than a virtue."
"Strong always feared smart, but smart never feared strong, smart only fears lack of control."
"And you are convinced that you are able enough to control me?" Spoke Tenebris as a smile gradually appeared on his face.
"No, but i can control your opinion of me."
"Ohh, tell me how can you be sure of that?"
"Because i know i can be useful to you, being useful to you is only thing that really matters to you."
"Diana don't push it." Tomm added quietly.
"I told you it's fine, you are luckily, you have quite smart and able daughter, but little girl you are wrong one thing."
"What is that?""
"I don't mind killing you right now even if you are useful, strong fear smart, smart fear lack of control, but if you think i'm just strong you will die sooner than you think."
"I know, you are powerful, you are both strong and smart, that gives you control, but you are also arrogant, maybe you don't think so but that's your weakness. But you have enough credit to be arrogant, just don't forget that you can also bleed."
"Diana!" Tomm yelled suddenly grabbing her shoulder to stop her from speaking.
"Being areeogant means you think are above everyone else, but i'm not arrogant, i don't think i'm above everyone else, i know i am above everyone. Enough chit-chat we have a task to finish." Said Tenebris as he turned around and continued walking.

As they left the basement hallway Tenebris started sneaking close to the walls towards the school cafeteria. Cafeteria was withing the main school wing so they didn't have to leave the school again, but as they neared the cafeteria they saw that entrance was blocked with tables and chairs.
"There are survivors there, looks like we aren't the only ones that thought of going there to grab food, Lulu come out." As Tenebris said that little fairy appeared sitting on his shoulder.
"Why don't you just let me sleep, whats wrong now?" Spoke annoyed Lulu.
"Can you scout cafeteria, entrance is blocked so we can't go in there, and i wouldn't want to risk it and breach in."
"I could, but why don't you do it yourself, this world has a barrier there but that doesn't mean that abyss has it as well, and you woke me up for this? Poor dumb kid, im going back to sleep call me if there is something actually important to do." Spoke Lulu before she shimmered out of existence again.
"Ok, you guys wait here i will go and check if there is anyone in there and how many are there actually." Ordered Tenebris as he faded out.
Tomm and Diana were shocked when they saw Tenebris disappear but they quickly calmed down, they realised that Tenebris had many more secrets than they were firstly aware of. Tenebris totally ignored their shocked faces as he continued walking through abyss towards cafeteria, when he closed in he saw that there was several figures inside sitting on the ground beside the bar in cafeteria and drinking and talking. Tenebris saw that they weren't dangerous so he closed in to them and exited the abyss. Group was shocked when they noticed Tenebris suddenly appearing beside them and they jumped up in fright.
"Wh-who are you, how did you get in, how did you just appear there?" Blond boy slightly taller than Tenebris, he grabbed what appeared to be chair leg that was beside him and stood in front of the group in batting stance.
"Who is your leader, i want to talk to him." Spoke calmly Tenebris as he glanced over the whole group, there were 3 girls and 2 guys in this group.
"Our leader isn't here, why do you want to speak with him." Spoke bronze skinned black haired youth behind the tall blonde guy.
"Shut up Steven, we don't know who this guy is and how did he come here, why are you telling him things." Bursted out angrily blonde youth.
"He isn't in fighting stance, he is just calmly standing there, which means he is sure we can't harm him, i guess he can dissapear the same way he appeared now, he didn't harm us so what is wrong with talking." Answered back bronze skinned guy.
"Smart kid, go grab your leader tell him someone wants to speak with him." Said calmly Tenebris as he grabbed nearby broken chair and tore seat from it and sat down on it.
"I won't harm you, but don't test my patience, i can kill you all in matter of seconds, be quick." Said Tenebris before he closed his eyes and sat calmly there.
Fear was evident on everyone's face when Tenebris said that. "Go find Ishida, tell him to rush here." Spoke bronze skinned youth, blonde guy looked at him for a moment and then ran of behind the bar into another room.

Synergy
Dear Inspector, Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from being a Player. Hey! Laugh all you want, but I had to try. With no rules down here, who's to say that I can't resign? Anyway, my reasons are simple: I'm neither a gamer nor a hero. You got the wrong person for the job. Sure, the pay is decent and I could pretty much live like a king if, you know, I wasn't so busy trying to survive. I have major concerns about the demonic dagger bound to my soul too. Come to think of it, I've never asked to be transported to this fantasy land either and would like you to return me home, thank you very much. I don't want supernatural powers, I don't want to complete quests after quests, and I don't want to be your test subject anymore. What? I'm not whining, you're whining. Stop making excuses and let me leave already. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope you'll find a better replacement after I'm gone for good. Sincerely,Randel, the Mad Painter What to expect from Synergy: --> Some GameLit elements are presented subversively. If you want the protagonist to “play the game” properly, this might not be the story for you.--> No filler chapters; the story's structure is already plotted out. It's going to have six story arcs.--> Character development happens slowly, over many chapters. Don't expect a perfect protagonist right off the bat.--> Some romance, but it will never be the main focus.--> Humor and dark elements in equal measure, but not to the extent that I’d label this story as “Comedy” or “Grimdark”. ... and lots and lots of Author's Notes. See you on the other side of the portal!

The Cyclical Nature of Time
A girl’s life ends unexpectedly early, or so it would seem. Instead of eternal nothingness, she wakes up in an empty valley with no clue how she got there. Taking her predicament in stride, she sets out to do something about it. Unfortunately for her, the first couple of people she meets aren’t much help. They claim they haven’t heard of electricity and dress as if they were on a break from their job at a Viking-themed amusement park. MC is a somewhat normal girl. She's pragmatic and not very angsty. The story is tagged with anti-hero, but to be clear, she is not a villain. She does good if she can, she just isn't morally motivated to do so. The story starts out smelling of fantasy but will eventually shift towards sci-fi. It contains some supernatural elements and has a strong lead, but it is not your usual power trip. Expect a story that takes its time, but not to the point where entire chapters are spent on mindless chit-chat. I’m not into that. This is my first serious attempt at writing and I've learnt a lot writing this. Unfortunately, that shows. Chapter 1-10 is slow and rather pointless. Things get better, but it is not until chapter 25 or so that I began understanding how to structure chapters and to make them support the larger story. I publish about 3000 words a week (every sunday) but I write about 10000 words a week. Sticking to that pace, which is easy, the last chapter will be out by July.
