《Re:Spider》Goldie and the River

A jungle. a dark, wet jungle with a few small rivers here and there. I glid with the wind for quite a time. at first, I was surrounded by tiny floating spiderlings, but then it was just me and that other dude in the distance. my stomach hurt and I was hungry. at first, I was panicked, and a bit reluctant to even try to get anywhere. after a while, I got the hang of it. I had to change my path in order to not hit a tree and squash myself. ´ ahhhh, I'm hungry... !!` i then hit a tree. or at least my thread did. for a while, i just hanged in the wind, unable to actually step a foot on the giant tree.
´g-gotta pull myself in...´ i tried pulling myself in using two of my legs, as I had no idea how to use the other four of them, but sooner or later I would learn. ´hah... hah... I did it!´ i stood triumphantly on a branch, with my two front legs waving about in the air. now I could see where the hell I was. I was on a tree covered in moss, right beside a wide river. ´h-holy shit... if this tree hadn't caught me...´ i looked down on a brown, striped suspicious frog. ´it hasn't noticed me yet, but when it does...´ I shuttered at the idea of becoming some frogs snack. ´hm? wouldn't this be the perfect place for a spider to place its web?´ I looked over the river at another mossy tree. it was parallel to this one, and I got a great idea.
´huh?´ a voice sounded in my head, and black text appeared before my eight eyes. I stared at it in silence before thinking ´h-hey hey hey... am I hallucinating? that can't be...´ i looked long and hard at the screen, before saying ´yes?´in my head. I then released some Golden Silk. ´w-whoa...´ i fiddled a little with the silk, checking how tough it was, how stretchy and its stickiness. it was really sticky, as I could not pull it off the tree. it was also tough, I couldn't really test it, but even if I pulled with all my might, it didn't rip in the least. ´o-ok... perfect! I know exactly what to do!´ I then jumped off the tree with the Golden Silk hanging from my abdomen, connecting myself to the tree.

as I was still a light little spiderling, I easily floated across with the wind, but that wasn't the dangerous part. luckily for me, the frog didn't notice me or it thought I was a wasp or something. ´hoh! I did it!´ i landed on the tree, and quickly affixed the Golden Silk to a branch. ´ok... now to get back and redo it...´ i put my two arms and legs on the Golden Silk and climbed it upside down. the other four legs I didn't have as human were hanging down, but I didn't mind them. I took one step, then two... then three. ´t-this is hard...´ i let a strand of Golden Silk hang down, and I shuffled across the fine, golden silk. after a long while of stopping, looking at the frog and the shuffling again, I finally reached the first tree.
´... I gotta call this guy something... just tree has no ring... hmm´ i though deeply about pointless things, such as what to call frog, golden silk, and tree. I finally decided that tree would be called ´Leif` which sounds like Leaf, Golden Silk would be called Goldie and the frog would be called Dick. ´ok, now to stick Goldie on Leif...´ i went around Leif, stringing him up with Goldie. ´ok, now there are two strings of Goldie connecting the trees... and I still have no idea how to make a spider web. how about I just go up and down, zig-zagging it and then connecting the zig-zags with more Goldie? wouldn't that work? I mean, it wouldn't be like the classic spider web... but I dunno what else to do...´

Dark Matter
In the year 2023, scientists investigating the nature of dark matter caused a blackout throughout the entire world of Coranth. With this blackout came the appearance of supernatural and near-magical elemental abilities able to be wielded by all. By harnessing the dark matter in the environment, even ordinary humans now accessed powers that would have been deemed fantasy. These abilities include Wind, Fire, Lightning, Water, and Terra, being the five natural elements of which dark matter is absorbed by the planet itself. Additionally, the two moons orbiting Coranth offer the "Superior" elements of Dark and Light. The year is now 2041, and Dark Matter will follow the story of an adolescent boy named Raiden Sullivan in a dystopian future, 16 years old, eldest of 2, and son to Marcus Sullivan. Raiden is an intelligent young man belonging to a poor family with an absentee mother. He partakes in daily chores to cover living expenses after school and his home life is surrounded by his caring father and younger sister. In truth, this is my take on urban fantasy with slight LitRPG that keeps the "magic" elements somewhat scientific for a more realistic story. In using the dark matter surrounding our universe, humans can now harness elemental abilities as well as absorb dark matter from the beasts/monsters to further strengthen their abilities. For the most part, that'll be the main premise of the power system. Full transparency, this will be the first story I write and also the first story I publish, so please be patient with me. For some context, I'm an avid reader and after 4 or so years of only consuming, I feel that it might be time to try my hand at writing instead. Please feel free to add your opinions and criticism, it would be much appreciated. With that said, I hope you enjoy Dark Matter!

Parallels
Parallels are a constant in life. Our friends' lives often run parallel to ours; we share similar experiences or tastes- perhaps even both. Sometimes, however, opposites attract- and our lives run perpendicular. In that case, we are not attracted by similarities; rather, we are attracted to the differences in others. So, what happens when two parallels are broken apart? What might happen to them? Are they forever doomed to run alongside each other, never seeing one another, never meeting? Or, perhaps, might they be spun about? Could these lines that formerly ran alongside one another meet? Could they possibly be set perpendicular? Any feedback is welcome, so long as it is constructive. Also, you may not use any characters, ideas, places, or what have you that I present here without my explicit permission. A note: This is a story which I began over a year ago, but never got around to finishing- it feels about time to really get it going. Now, there are a couple of things about the story, and myself, that need to be said. First and foremost, there's a slow start, but by the third-fourth chapter things should be speeding up a bit. Secondly, in regards to release speed and/or word count per chapter, I make no promises- my schedule is fairly random, and in regards to word count, I will cut off any chapter at any point that feels appropriate to me- that may include cliffhangers, if necessary. I'm not trying to reach a specific word count, I am trying to create a cohesive story, with pseudo-appropriate chapter breaks. This means I will also not rush a half-baked release for the sake of getting a release out. Thirdly, I will make any edits, anywhere in the story and at any time, that strike me as necessary- typically being wording and/or formatting changes, but I may also decide to change major plot points- in that case I would put a notification in the next chapter released. Finally, and most importantly, I am a Christian; this story is intended to at least moderately reflect those values. So, if you particularly dislike any of these things, feel free to look elsewhere, and don't let the door hit you on the way out. God bless, friends.
