《The Tale Of A Slayer》Chapter 12: I suck at choosing
Advertisement
Time to become a slayer huh. That said, I still don’t know how to become one. Is there some ritual?
“Master? How do I become a slayer? You still haven’t told me, you know?” (Yuuya)
“Oh that’s right. You don’t know, do you? Well, it’s…um… how do I explain it.. Oh right. You remember Diores’s story right?” (Miras)
“The first Slayer? Yeah I do. Why? It can’t be. I need to hunt a Dragon Go--?!” (Yuuya)
“No you idiot disciple. If you could, I would never give you the choice to become a Slayer of course.” (Miras)
But I have been wondering about some things for awhile. I’ve been talking about it nonchalantly, but now is the time to ask it.
“Master, what exactly is a God?” (Yuuya)
“A god, huh. Pitiful that you don’t even know what a God is.” (Miras)
Uuu…She really likes to make fun of me, doesn’t she?
“Well, A God is, one who has transcended.” (Miras)
“Transcended?”(Yuuya)
“Yup. One, who has understood and comprehended a part of the world to a certain degree, has the capability to become a god.” (Miras)
Understood and comprehended? So something like scientists from my world? I must have had a ‘I still don’t understand’ look on my face, since master sighed and continued explaining.
“Imagine a person, who completely understood what fire is, was and will be. He knows everything about fire, and is the number one authority about the knowledge of fire. He, has the possibility to become a Fire god. Understand? Only a possibility. It’s not something definitive. To become a god, he has to become the fire itself. His mind, body and soul has to become a blazing fire. And someone who can do that, transcends above his peers, and becomes an existence above all. That, is a god. Get it?” (Miras)
“So, how is it different from a spirit?” (Yuuya)
That’s right. Spirits exist in this world. They’re one kind of a race here. The spirits have only a body made of the element they represent, and controls it to a great extent. They can be contracted by people though. And if you contract a spirit, it’ll be your lifelong partner. Unless you insult it, and it gets mad, kills everyone and goes back to it’s homeland.
“A spirit becomes the element in body only. A god becomes the flame itself. And as an intelligent flame, it can control everything that can be classified as a flame in this world.” (Miras)
So it’s like a Master level wizard? No wait, maybe they have infinite magic power too.
“But, what makes a God so strong, Master?” (Yuuya)
“A god has it’s ability called domain. In it’s domain, a god is near invincible, immortal, and has complete control over the part of the world it comprehended. So in its domain, a god is just invulnerable.” (Miras)
I wanted to ask her how she killed a God, but it’s best I don’t, since it seems like the dark chapters of her history. No one wants to talk about the dark chapters of their history.
“Anyways, back to topic. How to become a Slayer. Diores, had a special ability. A unique ability, called Counter absorption. Counter Absorption absorbs the powers and mana of others and modifies his body to become like it, so that he gets a better idea how to kill it. Know thy enemy. But for Slayers, it’s Become thy enemy. That’s why Diores had no ability as a magician. From when he was a child, all of his mana was sapped by his ability. That’s the extent of his strength. But when he drank the mana rich blood of the Dragon God, it overcame his ability’s consumption limit, and his ability started forcefully storing the Dragon God’s energy, as well as modifying his body to become like it. Understand?” (Miras)

Become thy enemy huh. Certainly, if I fought myself, my resistance to my own skills would be higher than most, since I know myself best. I think. I nod.
“Now, none of us, normal humans, and beastkin and demi humans and other races have such an ability. So, what we do is, we forcefully inject the mana of the beasts we want to kill, master it, and release it whenever necessary. Just by being able to contain the energy, one would be able to grasp the weakness of the other party, since the mana of the beasts corrodes and rewrites our thinking processes, but by releasing the raw energy into your body, it forcefully transforms your body in order to be able to contain it. Of course, the physical strain from such a thing is really too much.”
Eh. So it’s no pain, no gain? But I had made up my mind already. I ain’t gonna back down now!
“Master, so, I can become all the beasts and slay them? That’s amazing!” (Yuuya)
“Wrong. You cannot become every beast. That would destroy your body, and you’ll be torn to shreds. Every slayer chooses a path. To become one type of slayer. Then, that particular mana is administered to you, and you have to learn to control it and not let it rampage. After you can safely store it, you can call yourself a Slayer.” (Miras)
Tough. I can tell it from her expression that doing it is not easy. But, Master told me it’s time, meaning she believes I can do it!
“Master, what are the choices?” (Yuuya)
“Sadly, after we were sealed at the ends of the world, the people destroyed every trace of the herbs needed to ,make the Slayer concoction. Right now, we have only one batch, and that too only half of it.” (Miras)
This Slayer’s curse is getting even more suspicious. The ingredients for the Slayer concoction, I’m sure it’s not public knowledge. Then how could some Church fanatics….
“We only have five of the concoctions left. Meaning, there’ll only be five more Slayers. The slayers are a dying kind, Yuuya. We are near immortal unless we fall in battle, but here, our chances of survival get slimmer day by day. But thankfully, the new Slayers are exempt from the curse, so they can roam the world, hiding their identity.” (Miras)
Eh. There are others? Other slayers huh. I’m sure even they have clues about the Slayer's curse. I need to make contact with the—wait. Why am I so confident that I’ll become a Slayer? I might very well die!
“The monster, the dragon, the chaos, the god and the demon slaying concoctions. That’s all that’s left. Choose your pick. And choose carefully.
The monster slayer can grasp the weaknesses of any and all monsters. They’re more focused on strength, although you can focus on agility, or defense if you wish to. A versatile class.
The dragon slayer is focused on strength, jumping strength and fire magic.
The chaos, well no one knows about it. It’s a type of slayer I have never seen or heard of, and it’s concoction has been here ever since the village was established, but was never used.
The god slayer, is a tricky one to pick. Because the only one you can kill with it are gods and demigods.
The demon slayer is focused on magic. A master of magic, so to speak. You can choose whatever you want.” (Miras)
Uuu... A multiple choice. I suck at this. Wait, maybe i should get advice from an expert.
“Master, what did you pick?” (Yuuya)
“Me? I’m a special case. Ufufufu. I picked both the god and demon slayer. Don’t worry, Yuuya, I’m just special” (Miras)
So…You can pick more than one eh. Two seems to be the limit. Then isn't my choice obvious/
"Master,I've chosen." (Yuuya)
"Which one?" (Miras)
“All of them.” (Yuuya)
“Eh?” (Miras)
"Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh?!!!!!!!!!?!?!?" (Miras)

Art of Mortality
New Synopsis after chapter 56: Long long ago, there was a mortal who despised the gods and envied the immortals. Why do the mortals have to die when the gods wish them to? Why do worlds have to perish when the gods say so? Why do only immortals get to live forever, why not mortals like him? As his family, friends, and his loved one died, he lamented. He wailed, he cried. He cursed the immortals, blasphemed the gods, spat at the heavens. But he was just a mere mortal. His curses were pointless, his blasphemous words were useless, and his spits only returned back to fall on his face. At last, he thought, enough was enough, he would definitely do something about it. He decided that it was time for the multiverse to know what a mortal can do. He was the first mortal to cultivate. Eventually, after a long struggle, he killed the Immortals, enslaved the Gods, and shattered the heavens. He reshaped the multiverse and rewrote his fate. In the end, he reincarnated as he decided upon a grand scheme, a scheme to rule 'All and Always'. He came up with the concept of what is known today as 'Paragon'. And with this, all of reality, 'All and Always', was finally reforming, according to a Mortal's Wish. Synopsis (Old): In the vast and complex multiverse, what can a mortal accomplish? In the grand scheme of things, what can a mortal change? In truth, what is a mortal, and what is mortality? Being mortal is being ordinary, the same as being trash, or so says The World. "No, mortality is an art, and a true mortal is a grand artist. Being the root of all, a mortal can become anything.", says a young mortal boy. Meet Edward Alexander, a mortal boy walking the path against gods and immortals, fighting to the end to rewrite his destiny, and change the grand scheme of things. Can he really change the grand scheme of things? Or maybe he himself is the Grand Schemer? To know the answer, follow Edward Alexnder on his journey to demonstrate the Art of Mortality.*******

A Virtual Invasion

Maybe with a bit of luck and planning, he can build a force to defend the world without anyone realizing it. Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
