《Sunchild - A Starfall Chronicle》Prologue
Advertisement
A wounded dragon laid upon a landscape of ruin. As far as the horizon stretched, all things burned. Streams of molten rock swirled around the fallen creature, and the very rock of the earth far and wide melted. Mountains smaller than the dragon which laid among them fell to liquid before a sun that was much too close.
The terrible beast that lay among the desolation roared up at the fiery star, angry and pitiful. Its wings were burnt away, and where a limb had once been there was now nothing more than a stump that had been cauterized by the heat. The scales of the dragon shimmered in the bright light for a time, before they too began to burn in the intense heat. Indeed, the inner fire of the dragon yielded to the fire of its creator.
The dragon, for all its pain and sorrow, knowing that it would die, summoned all that remained of the magic which was within itself. Every bit of inner warmth and all manner of celestial magic that it possessed, it to put into the words that it was about to speak.
Then, in the deep rumbling tones of its tongue, the beast spoke out the last words of its existence in a powerful curse. As it spoke, flames rippled from its mouth and the world shook.
“Sun mother, our blessed light, you who brought us from the sand and raised us to bear your fire. She that is owed all light and love which this barren rock knows. Life-giver and day bringer. For whom our hearts burn.
May you be cursed, you who would not show us your love alone. You who are of idle interests and uncontrolled passion. Cursed be this blessing you have given us, which wrenched us from the earth to be made into vile beings. Cursed be your love, that the burns it gives unto others may be returned to you. May all your endeavors be returned with spite, and may your every love be dashed by hate. May death follow your light, as the night follows day.

Thus, when at last the heavens fall, it shall be by the hand of all things you have loved, human and dragon. In those times, the stars shall lose their place, and all things shall return to darkness.”
The dragon ceased its prophecy, and at that moment almost died, before giving its last to the final bit of spite in its soul.
“And as vengeance for this suffering of mine, for this betrayal, this doom shall come from my descendants. It shall be from the one who will be human-mothered, but hold the power of the heavens in their hands. From the one that will barter with your tears - and who shall cause you to cry. It shall be from the one that will live like your favored children, as a child of man, but shall have my spite!”
The dragon roared the last words, and then with a final gout of flame, perished. Its body relaxed as it fell into the molten earth, and its gem-like scales melted.
Moments past and the roaring inferno around the great dragon continued. Then, from amid the torrent of fire, lava, and ash, a woman appeared. She did not burn, and she walked towards the dragon’s fallen body, her face awash with grief. The lava beneath her did not engulf her, and she walked upon it without sinking into its surface. Her hair shimmered like gold in the light of noon, and her eyes glowed with the light of twin suns. She wore a gown of white, yellows, orange, and hues of red, all golden trimmed. Upon her back were massive feathered wings whose colors were like the sunset. Around her was an aura of light that out-shined even the torrent of fire that surrounded her and rivaled the bright light above.
Tears ran from her eyes, creating glowing rivers of light down her face. As they fell from her cheeks and to the ground they splashed onto the lava and floated there like oil upon water. They shined and did not dim, nor did they evaporate.

She approached the dragon and lay her body against its fallen, burning, form. There, she wept, and each of her cries caused the world to shake like the great dragon’s final moments had. The tears that fell from her eyes ran down the dragon’s body and pooled beneath it into a small disk of shining light.

The Bettor's Oath [A Dark-Modern LITRPG]
We live in a world where the rabbit’s foot helped win the game. Following that logic, tell me, what happens when the odds are flipped against the strong and a god rises to give the weak their right for revenge?~Last segment of the First Monarch's speech before the Lablanca battle. Lothar Ardolf, an alcoholic 27 years old high school teacher, was one of the many men who failed to catch up to life. When everyone around him worked to leave a mark behind, he idled away between states of short sobriety and static numbness, hoping that one day everything would resolve itself. It took little to wake him up. Only a life, soul, and body changing experience.Thrust into a world of cheap power and tyrannical governments, where a man could rival what is true and alter what is false, he was tasked by an elusive being with befalling titans. He wakes up in a prison with a path laid in front of him; one that would challenge all the resolve he has and more. Intertwined in a convoluted scheme of politics and old grudges, he will need to learn how to wield his new powers in order to escape before the secrets of the prison threaten to unravel him. However, he shortly realizes that his new faded fantasy was not a fairy tale. All that awaits him in the end, for standing against the world, is death. That is, if the three sided coin lands on heads. If it lands on tails... The shadowbane army rises. ...... This story is a neo-noir dark LITRPG in a world similar to earth. Take the tags seriously. I've been working on this project for 6 months and my MC is a bit unconventional, so I'm excited to introduce you all to him. Beware, it will be a slow-burn, so please be patient. The main plot will start to kick up at around chapter 15. I will be writing about racists, rapists, cultists and horrible humans. I do not condone or excuse their behavior or choice of words but the first arc will be in a prison and (some) prisoners don't mince their words. My MC doesn't adapt to the new world immediately because that is not realistic at all. It takes time and because of his personality, it will take more than a system to convince him to do someone else's bidding ;) Each chapter will have around 3000+ (give or take) words. I will be updating 2-3 times a week (depending on how busy I am with work and/or college) when I'm done publishing my backlog (Which is very big, 40,000+ words). **Each comment gets rep! Cover art by @tahraart on Instagram. Link to discord: https://youtu.be/91wX0NRjJqg Have a good one, Pistol. **** THE STORY IS ON TEMPORARY HIATUS. WE WILL BE BACK IN 2 MONTHS. SORRY EVERYONE.

Simulation Nation
Even software can be greedy. That's what James and the entire world learned when they woke up Saturday morning to find out that everything and everyone were only code running inside a simulation. Of course the first thing they did with that knowledge was to start a war. Now James must assemble a team that can hack the code, stop the war, and solve the question: "Why does the simulation exist?"

Cursed Forest
This is a high fantasy story with horror elements, featuring the map-maker and half-elf Aspen, and his friend Sekafi, a hyena-like humanoid as they are sent on a mission to map out unknown territory and encounter a monster. Soon they're involved in something larger and more dangerous than they ever wanted. What happens next, you'll find out when you read. This is the first story I'm publishing here on RoyalRoad. I wanted to try this site out since it's more geared towards fantasy. I've been at Wattpad for about 2 years under the same name, but since I'm not writing romance I haven't gotten much steam there. This is my latest story, and it's also published on Wattpad in the book called Short Stories. I wanted to start with something new and unfinished here. I'll try and update at least once every other week, sometimes more often. ~RiisingNovels

The Shadow Paradigm - Book 1: Project Orb Weaver
Gardening, cooking, innovation, preservation, charity events... Madzistrale, Tom and Gabzryel does it all. But when they encounter the mysterious Shiakar Paradigm Society, a clash of paradigms ensues. Although both groups are aiming to make humanity stand stronger, their ideals and methods could not be further apart. Between the trio's optimistic yet naive ideals, and the SPS's tried-and-true surgical methods, determining the answer which methods can better humanity is a struggle that both parties must resolve in their own ways... Welcome to the 7th revision of my 10+ years ongoing novel trilogy. This revision took out some flawed plot concepts to re-introduce a more down-to-earth, film noir-like ambience, where a battle of wits is what will determine the outcome. It also added instead more in-depth expansion into the lives and mindsets of the characters, especially the heroes (a missing factor in older versions). Third-view limited storytelling was also introduced more prominently over my favoured third-view omnipotent, with each chapters concentrating as much as possible on a single character's point of view instead of head-hopping. So I shall begin uploading the chapters as I finish them; they're edited as much as I can, but there'll most likely be some typos and mistakes. As always, I welcome your comments and critiques, and I hope you enjoy reading that story as much as I did creating it! A parting poem to introduce the story (translated from its original French version): Credit: Les Mots, Mylene Farmer & Seal Firmly, the sky writhes When a mouth begets a death There, I will give my life to hear you To tell you the most tender words When all becomes all alone I'll break my life for a song And to lives that stoop to notice mine I know I will say goodbye But a fraction of this life I would give anything, anytime The universe has its mysteries Words are our lives You could kill a life with words Soul, how would it feel? If our lives are so fragile Words are mysteries Words of feelings Words of love, a temple If one swept the world away One could touch the universe I will tell you how the sun rose high We could with a word become one And for all those words that hurts us There are those that touches us Which illuminates, touches the infinity Even if nothingness exists For a fraction on this life We will give anything, anytime The universe has its mysteries Words are our lives We could kill a life with words Soul, how would it feel? If our lives are so fragile Words are mysteries Words of feelings Words of love, a temple

To do list for the post apocalypse: 1. Survive the orcs rampaging through your city. 2. Survive the pod trying to steal your mind. 3. Pull off the greatest heist of all time. It still amazed Eric how much the world’s end mirrored the movie his obsessed mother had put into production… set to release just three days after the Apocalypse. But humanity wasn’t completely helpless. You really could level up in this brave new world, and embrace magic, peril, and limitless power! So long as you didn’t mind a 90% mortality rate in alien vegetative pods as happy to turn you into topsoil as give you any shot at mastering a System designed to benefit elite invaders. Not fragile humans just trying to survive. But Eric was all about beating the odds… Even if it killed him. Author's Note - I plan in releasing 1 chapter a day for the first thirty days. And slowly, with time, diligence, and training his butt off, he'll evolve into a powerhouse that will force even his enemies to treat him with respect.
