《Chosen by the Laws》In The Beginning

Created by The Ruling System, born into endlessness and given the tools to create, The Council of Laws created all. At first, there were three laws: Life, Death, and Creation. First, they formed the universe. However, it remained empty, thus other laws were born into existence. The universe soon became populated. As time passed, it became structured, equilibrium was achieved, and the system energy in the universe was brimming.
It all began 14 billion years later. By now there were many Laws brought into existence by the power known as 'The Ruling System'. Their embodiment was that of an orb, which radiated the power they possessed. They were currently all present and floating around the origin of the systems powers, the source.
This gathering was special, as enough power had been amassed for another to be born, Life, Death, and Creation were the closest waiting patiently. Suddenly Creation spoke, "it is coming". Life and Death became excited while the other Laws looked on in anticipation. It was always a glorious moment when a New Law was created as it meant the universe would be upgraded.
The power trickling out of the source suddenly spiked. A beam of light rose and fell, and in its place remained a sphere so dark it did not belong. Something did not feel right, overwhelmed by a sense of unease, Creation, Life, and Death bounced back; however, they could not escape the dark tendrils which rushed towards them and all present. Suddenly the origin lit up again and out popped another Law.
It was known as 'Balance'. Balance Immediately began spreading out its power, the other Laws were protected from the dark tendrils that had reached them.
Everything turned eerily silent.
A bitter battle was fought with neither side gained an advantage until suddenly, Chaos showed excitement. Now closest to the source, Chaos spread its tendrils of power towards the source which created them all. Life, Death, Creation, and the other Laws spread out their tendrils of power and grappled with Chaos. The source broke in two, thankfully Chaos got the smaller piece. Gloating happily Chaos escaped with its spoils.

Time passed, dealing with the small loss of power and while wondering what the future held, they began searching for traces of Chaos in the universe.
The elemental law of Fire was the first to find a trace; it was a war. Chaotic energy was permeating the area and the planet was falling apart. The bitter war waged on until finally the planet was destroyed and blown into countless chunks. Chaos had risen.
Calling a meeting Balance shaking furiously spoke out, "it has assimilated with the piece of Source stolen. "Chaos is now everywhere, and unless we find the source, we can't stop it. It will destroy all, over time."
Meanwhile, a chunk of the destroyed planet crashed into a light blue planet killing all life on it. Unsure of what to do due to the current predicament they found themself in, the Council of Laws called a meeting. Due to the damage caused to the source, the Laws became unstable leading to a debate that lasted for sixty-five million years as they tried to decide on countermeasures to stop Chaos.
Every day, as it grew more powerful, Chaos spread throughout the universe. Small wars were fought between planets, natural disasters occurred, and changes took place. Until finally, a plan was decided upon. The Laws would assimilate their powers with the Ruling System and let their energy be available to everything which had been created. They hoped this would allow others to gain power from the system at a faster rate than they could, and help create someone or something strong enough to stop Chaos, once and for all.
One by one they gave their powers back to the system, and the power was spread throughout the universe. Worlds were morphed, the opportunity to study the laws and gain unimaginable power was granted, and most importantly chaos was pushed back. Not gone for good, but long enough to buy the universe time. The Laws, nearly powerless, could do nothing but watch from this point on and hope their plan would succeed.

Unbeknownst to the Laws, they poured too much power into the system, something stirred within it. The overload of power caused something to grow inside - a consciousness. The Ruling System had gained sentience.

No matter what, their choices will bring forth a new era for Mendala. ------------------------------ If you love vast fantasy worlds, rich, fleshed-out characters, and a adventure where your'e constantly discovering new things along the way, then this is definitely a story you'll enjoy. This is a slow-burn high fantasy / adventure with many characters and intersecting plotlines. It’s a quest so lots of adventuring, exploring, and character moments, but not a ton of fighting/action (though there are definitely some great fight scenes as payoff to the buildup). Because it’s a fantasy world with lots of people and new concepts, I try to make it easy so that you don’t have to memorize anything. The narrative will constantly remind you of important people/places/concepts as you keep moving forward. Some things won’t be fully explained right at the beginning to avoid information overload. My goal is that the reader will learn things organically as the story progresses. I use two mechanisms to help with the intersecting plotlines. - Each chapter is named for the (main) plotline it’s following and which part. - At the beginning of the chapter, and anytime there is a scene shift, the location is listed. Also, though this is definitely a portal-fantasy (isekai) it’s different from the standard isekai, especially since the world transfer doesn’t happen immediately. It’s not Lit-RPG but characters gain powers and grow over time. Also, it’s a group of teens that transfer, not just one central character. All of the teens are distinct characters, with their own character-arcs, relationships, powers, growth etc. Hopefully you’ll find this interesting as you’ll see the world and story from multiple perspectives. The story is always in 3rd Person (Omniscient) POV so that it’s not jarring as perspectives shift.
