The cloudy sky, the ruins of the city. Oh, so painful it must be. You don't need to only worry about the ruins crumbling down upon you; you also must worry about the dead. Yes, I said the dead, please take George Romero as a great example to what I just said.

Not to mention I am on top of a skyscraper, something that could collapse at any minute; though I kind of like the thrill but that's besides the point. The view was kind of beautiful, the vines growing on the sides of buildings, the sun shining through the clouds. "Shame I can't share this with Aya…" I muttered, taking a bite of a stale granola bar. The granola bar tasted nasty, but I want to survive.

If you don't know what happened to my sister, she died from a fire. I'm going to kill whoever caused it. At least that was my hope, my sister's death recently occurred, meaning I still have a chance on killing whoever killed her. I know everyone has lost people during the apocalypse, so I'm not going to do a whole sob story.

I don't know if I'm going to find them, since her death I have strayed away from my group. Of course, I'm still with them, I just barely talk to them anymore. Is it some sort of shock that I'm in?

Shock doesn't apply in the wastelands anymore. Someone went up the old stairs, some of the stairs were missing due to the bombs that happened at the very start. The military did bomb the city in order to try and get rid of most of the biters if possible. It seemed to have done nothing and the clusters remain; I call hordes clusters per say, I have no other good names for them. I don't want to scream horde, it sounds lame.

"Hey Cody, how are you holding up?" a girl peeked her head from the doorway, I looked at her. Oh, that's Dani, she's been my friend for awhile now, a couple days after my sister's death. The cloudy sky wanted to ruin my mood, so it began to spit out rain.

My black hair was now wet thanks to the weather, Mother Nature please don't make anything else wet. I will appreciate it very much! "I'm doing okay, are you okay?" I was obviously lying In front of her face and by her expression she could tell as well. "Stop lying, I know you're bullshitting me…" Dani gazed at the ruins of the city, then she stared at me as if she was going to kick my ass if I sputtered one more lie.

"Cody don't lie to me. It's clear to everyone that you aren't okay. The others have set up camp near here and they sent me to get you because it's getting dark. So please…" Dani couldn't finish her sentence, she looked at the cracked floor, was it even safe to stand here? Probably not. She looked up at me. "Please come with me, stop pushing you and others away. It won't do good for you in the long run." Dani mustered up all her courage to say the last bit of her speech, God damn she really convinced me to follow her.

I went over to her, sliding my hands into my pockets. "Lead the way." I mumbled. A smirk formed across Dani's face, usually this wasn't good news. "Knew you would come with me, I'm that irresistible." She was proud of her accomplishment; I didn't want to ruin her mood, so I just nodded in agreement.

Dani went down the stairwell, each step felt like the stairs would cave in and that we would fall. Thankfully we didn't as we reach the last round of stairs. I thought it would be more difficult when it came to walking down decaying cement stairs, but I guess I was incorrect. None of them broke on us, the journey down most of the stairs were nerve racking.

Plus, the darkness didn't help with that, we had flashlights to ensure our safety. Most of the railings were rusted or gone, some of the biters probably used their bodyweight to break the railing which usually resulted in them falling to their deaths. I've rarely seen a biter survive a fall from a stairwell except for one time when my sister and I were getting chased by them at an apartment building. I shoved one down the stairs and it landed on its legs, so most of their bones got crushed due to the impact. I finished it off, I rather not describe it in full detail because the biter was pretty legless. Ha-ha see the joke I did right there. Now ignore it and move on.

"Dak has some good shit cooking, even though he's a new addition to the group, he can cook a mean meal." Dani smiled, I looked at her. "I never met this Dak person." I raised two of my fingers from both of my hands, I lowered and raised them up and down. "You're such an ass sometimes." Dani chuckled and punched me in the shoulder. "Yeah, yeah…" I sighed and looked around. They were in the lobby; the other rooms were offices to be exact. So, they were in a building where people used to sit on their ass full time and earn $17 an hour. I have to say, that is a fair amount for people that literally bust their ass off; get that joke? If so good.

"I wonder what the lobby looked like before the fall." Dani gazed at the chairs that were toppled down. There were faint red marks on the windows, meaning biters put their hands on the glass a while ago. But that could be the rain. Who knows till we exit the building? "It probably looked boring as hell. Can we just leave already?" I was impatient, I just wanted to do what they wanted me to do and head back to my little space… If it was still standing by the time I got back.

"You sound really impatient, and yes. We will leave." Dani walked over the blood crusted carpet, there were skeletons on the ground. They seemed to be eaten all the way through by the biters. I am only assuming due to the bones. Yes, I am judging by the bones. Some were cracked apart and one of the skulls were away from the actual body. I quickly followed Dani; I didn't want to be in the creepy lobby anymore; at least for now.

"In a rush now?" Dani looked around the city. There were cars that were either burnt or rusted up. Some were toppled over, and some remained at the same place they were at the beginning. Some had decaying bodies that would smell like expired crusty milk. I am speaking from experience. You do not want to drink milk that was 5 months expired, I ended up throwing up. But again, my sister did the same so I thought it would be cool to do so.

"Yes, I am indeed in a rush. Lead the way, Dani." I motioned my hand. Dani pulled out her crossbow. I was jealous of her cool crossbow. Whoever owned the crossbow previously had a creative mind; I mean there were goddamn snakes circling around the crossbow, at the ends of the snakes there were fire. Does that mean that snakes fart out fire?

"Who owned the crossbow before you?" I asked her in a nervous tone, look I don't know if it was previously owned by a murderer. Dani glanced at the crossbow, "This?" She loaded up a crossbow bolt as precaution in case they come across a walker. "Yes that." I spoke up. "It belonged to my dad; he gave it to me before he turned." She mumbled, I felt bad for her. I mean… who couldn't feel bad for someone after you learned something happened to someone they once loved.

"I'm sorry about your loss, Dani." I looked over at her, If I wanted to be sorry I rather be upfront about it.

Dani looked at me and smiled. "It's okay, It's been years since he turned; thanks for being sorry though." She nudged my shoulder. "We're close to camp, come on!" She ran off.

I sighed. "More exercise… yaaay!" I was sarcastic.
